Dream Giveaway: $50 Home Depot Gift Card

January 26, 2009 by Tara Kuczykowski

dream-gift-cardRaise your hand if you love The Home Depot!

Thought so – I mean, what’s not to love? I get inspired to do some sort of household project just walking through their doors.

Here’s another bit of inspiration on a more serious note.

Through Feb. 28, The Home Depot is offering a commemorative “Dream” gift card celebrating the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. When consumers purchase the collector’s edition “Dream” gift card, The Home Depot will donate five percent of all sales to the Center for Civil and Human Rights, up to $1 million dollars. The donation will assist in the building of a permanent exhibition home for his personal writings and papers.

The collection of original documents by Dr. King includes more than 10,000 items, among them 7,000 handwritten notes spanning from 1946 to 1968. They include drafts of his “I Have a Dream” speech, his “Letter from a Birmingham Jail,” other theological writings and his Nobel Peace Prize addresses. The King Papers will be part of the exhibition offering of The Center for Civil and Human Rights. The Dream cards can be purchased at any store, or online at homedepot.com/dream.

Talk about amazing and inspiring, huh?

I have one of these commemorative gift cards loaded with $50 to spend at The Home Depot to give away to one Deal Seeking Mom reader!

To enter leave a comment telling me what inspires you. It can be an event, a person, a speech – you name it.

I am inspired by everyday people who do extraordinary things. It makes me think that maybe I, as an ordinary person, might be able to accomplish something extraordinary if I put my mind to it.

I am inspired when I see a stranger helping another out from the goodness of their heart. I visited my grandma in the nursing home over the weekend and saw a man helping one of the other ladies into the elevator- it just made me feel great. I stayed for the day and helped out as much as I could. Thanks for the giveaway and the GC would really help in these tough times. We have a list of things we need at home depot. Thanks!

I know this is a standard answer for moms, but my children inspire me. For MLK day my 8 year old had a classroom assignment in school to write his own “I have a dream…” speech. He said some of the most heart warming things I have heard from an 8 year old. He said his dream was for all people in the world to get along. He also said his dream was for more people to read the Bible. I can’t remember all of it off the top of my head, but I know I cried when I read it. So he is what inspires! I hope his little dreams come true for our country and our world!

I am inspired by what my brother and his wife have started doing. They are walking from California to Jerusalem. They started Jan. 16th. They should be here in my state by May(kansas), inwhich I am pondering joining them in their walkd be it a mile, or 10, 30 miles. We will see. So if you see them stopp and say hello! They will have a yellow flag on their backpack. My brother is 66 years old.

I am inspired by my son. He got in trouble when he was 18 and went to jail for 18 months. During that time, he got his GED with one of the highest scores in the state. After he was released he enrolled in the college and is now in his second year. He just made Deans List. I am so proud of how he has turned his life around. He is an inspiration to me and many others.

Hey there — nice to meet you!

I'm Tara: mom of 5 teens/tweens and one 80-lb. Weimaraner, who fancies herself a lap dog. Born and raised in Ohio (GO BUCKS!!!), my fave things include cooking + baking, my JEEP Rubicon, the 4x4 beaches at OBX, and checking out the local craft beer scene...

As you can imagine, all of this puts a good dent in my monthly budget. So I've learned how to save on the things I NEED, so I can spend on the things I WANT.
