Consumer Recalls: Tylenol + Bathtub Toys

There have been several consumer recalls over the past couple of days that may affect Deal Seeking Mom readers. Please refer to the links included in each section for more details about the specific recalls:

Tylenol 8-Hour Caplets 50 Count

Tylenol 8-Hour Caplets are being recalled by Johnson & Johnson after some consumers were sickened by ingesting the pills or smelling a musty or moldy odor on the bottle.  Johnson & Johnson’s McNeil Consumer Healthcare unit received some complaints from people who reported nausea, stomach pain, vomiting and diarrhea after taking the pills.  The moldy odor is thought to be due to the presence of trace amounts of a chemical called 2,4,6-tribromoanisole.  The recalled product lot number can be found on the side of the bottle label.  Go here for the full recalled products list.

Consumers who purchased the recalled product should stop using the product and contact McNeil Consumer Healthcare at www.tylenol.com or by calling 1-888-222-6036 (Monday-Friday 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Eastern Time, and Saturday-Sunday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Eastern Time) for instructions about receiving a refund or product coupon. Consumers who have medical concerns or questions should contact their healthcare provider.  Any adverse reactions may also be reported to the FDA’s MedWatch Adverse Event Reporting program either online, by regular mail or by fax.

  • Online: www.fda.gov/medwatch/report.htm
  • Regular Mail: use postage-paid, pre-addressed Form FDA 3500 available at: www.fda.gov/MedWatch/getforms.htm. Mail to address on the pre-addressed form.

Munchkin Bathtub Toys

Munchkin Inc., has recalled Bathtub Subs because the intake valve on the bottom of the submarine toy can suck up loose skin, posing a laceration hazard to children.  The recall involves battery-operated bathtub submarine toys.  The toy is yellow, has a smiling face, turquoise windows, and orange propeller and periscope that turns on and off.  The toys were sold in mass merchandise retail stores and children’s stores nationwide from November 2009 through September 2010 for about $7.

Consumers should immediately take the recalled toy away from children and contact Munchkin for instructions on how to return the product for a free replacement toy.  For additional information, contact Munchkin at 877-242-3134 anytime or visit the company’s website.

Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. It is illegal to resell or attempt to resell a recalled consumer product.

Hey there — nice to meet you!

I'm Tara: mom of 5 teens/tweens and one 80-lb. Weimaraner, who fancies herself a lap dog. Born and raised in Ohio (GO BUCKS!!!), my fave things include cooking + baking, my JEEP Rubicon, the 4x4 beaches at OBX, and checking out the local craft beer scene...

As you can imagine, all of this puts a good dent in my monthly budget. So I've learned how to save on the things I NEED, so I can spend on the things I WANT.
