It’s amazing how much orthodontics has changed since I was a child. I didn’t get braces until the end of my sixth grade year when I was 12, and I had to endure a painful 2+ years of tooth extractions, headgear, and rubber bands. The end results were totally worth it, but it’s no wonder I wasn’t the model patient with so many invasive techniques.
So I was surprised when our dentist recommended that my 8 year old pay a visit to the orthodontist at such a young age, but apparently this is not at all unusual these days. We’ve been so pleased with our orthodontist so far. He put together a plan that will slowly move her teeth to allow for room for all of her adult teeth, without the need to pull any baby or permanent teeth. In fact, she may not even need to get braces at all!
About a month ago she had an upper palate spreader put on, and today she received a lower one as well. I’m amazed at how much progress we’ve seen in just a month. She lost her outer upper incisors ages ago, but her permanent teeth never came in because there just wasn’t any room for them. After having the upper palate spread in place for less than two weeks, I noticed that they were already starting to break through.
The downside to all of this is that the palate spreaders are very difficult to keep clean. They’re not removable, so my daughter must brush around them to keep her teeth clean.
I was very grateful to find an offer from Oral B in my inbox to try their new Deep Sweep Triaction Rechargeable Electric Toothbrush. My hopes that it would assist her in keeping her teeth shiny and clean were not disappointed!
Not only does the triple cleaning action gently clean her teeth and gums (and dental appliance!), but I’ve found that using an electric toothbrush has actually encouraged her to brush more often. She’s been very diligent about keeping it charged and uses it multiple times a day. The built-in timer reminds her to clean all four quadrants of her mouth for 30 seconds each, for healthy teeth.
Highlights of the Oral B Deep Sweep:
- Removes up to 100% more plaque vs. a regular manual toothbrush
- Triple cleaning action technology includes: dynamic side-to-side bristles to sweep away plaque, a moving power tip to penetrate hard-to-reach areas, and stationary bristles that polish tooth surfaces
- Endorsed by Dr. Oz’s dentist, Dr. Levine
