BIG Giveaway: $500 Walmart Gift Card Sponsored by Nickelodeon

December 2, 2008 by Tara Kuczykowski

Nickelodeon
I’ve hinted about it for days now, and finally here it is – your chance to win a $500 Walmart gift card!!!

walmart-500-gift-cardJust in time to make your holidays a little happier, Nickelodeon and Walmart have teamed up to offer this fabulous contest hosted by the Elevenmoms.

Yep, that’s right – each Elevenmom is giving away one $500 gift card on her blog, so you have 20 chances to win! Find details on the Elevenmoms site on how you can enter to win each one. Please note that you may only win once.

So who wants to add $500 to their holiday budget? You didn’t really think I was going to make this EASY for you, did you? You’re going to have to work a little bit for a prize this big.

In light of the tough economic times, this contest is all about discovering new ways to help each other save money. Yesterday I wrote a post detailing seven easy ways to cut at least $1 from your budget per day in the hopes that it would inspire you to participate in The One Dollar Give. I only just scratched the surface though, and I know that you all have some amazing tips to share as well.

So there you go – holiday-themed or not, I want you to share your best methods for cutting back by at least $1 a day!

Methods of Entry*

Every reader can submit up to three (3) different tips to enter this contest. Choose one each of any combination of method one, two, or three for up to a total of 3 entries!!!

YOU MUST LEAVE A TIP WITH EACH ENTRY. ENTRIES THAT DO NOT FOLLOW THE GUIDELINES BELOW WILL BE DELETED.

1. Leave a comment sharing your best money-saving tip to cut at least $1 a day out of your budget!

2. Subscribe to my feed via RSS or email and leave a separate comment letting me know you have done so along with another money-saving tip. If you’re already a subscriber, simply leave a separate comment letting me know you’re already subscribed along with another money-saving tip. Lovin’ my subscribers! You guys make this all possible.

3. Spread the word about this contest in some manner and come back and leave a link in a separate comment along with another money-saving tip. If you have a blog, you can blog about it. But if you don’t have a blog, you’re not at a disadvantage. You could review and Stumble it. You could Twitter it. You could post about it in a forum. Use your imagination!

*Please read the rules for entering and the timeline information carefully as this contest differs from the usual giveaways that I host.

It is important that you leave a separate comment for each type of entry because each comment is equal to one entry. Sorry to harp on this, but it really is that important to tally and select the winner easily, so I thank you from the bottom of my heart for helping me simplify the process!

Prize:
1 $500 Walmart Gift Card

This giveaway ends at 11:59 p.m. EDT on Monday, December 15th. The judges will select ten of their favorite entries to be highlighted on Deal Seeking Mom, and I’ll use Random.org to select the winning comment.  The winner will be posted on Tuesday, December 16th, and the prize will be mailed out on December 17th. Good luck!

While you’re in a contest entering mood, don’t forget to check out the Giveaway Gathering for a variety of contests being hosted on Deal Seeking Mom readers’ blogs!

We have replaced all of our light bulbs with energy savers provided at a reasonable price by southern calif edison. No more bottled water, tap is just as good and less expensive

#1 Use a timer on your water heater. We have it set for early morning and evenings, long enough for showers, laundry, dish washing, etc. It saves us at least $35 a month in electricity.

#2 I decided to cook some of our favorite fast food items to save money and time waiting in line, etc. Tacos, fajitas, pizza can all be made for a fraction of the cost of drive through, cooked ahead and frozen with the added bonus that you know the ingredients are wholesome.

#3 Buy your prescription medications in the generic form via mail order. I save a ton of money having our Dr. write our long term medication scripts for a 90 day supply rather than using brick & mortar pharmacy that only gives a 30 day supply.

One new tradition my extended family has started is to each bring a typed up memory (Christmas or childhood memory) to our Christmas party instead of gifts. And then we all go around and share our memory with each other and reminisce on all the good-old-times or simply enjoy hearing new stories about each other. We then compile all the stories into a book, so we can read them over and over again. This takes the stress out of buying presents for everyone, and instead puts the focus back on family, where it should be. [email protected]

I found out about a cool website this year where you can send out free personalized photo postcards, postage paid and everything! The website is http://www.hippopost.com. You can only send out a certain amount per day, but with planning, you can send out your Christmas cards for free and even have your family picture on the front! That’s what we did this year to help save money, because even the postage is free (they put a small advertisement on the back & they’re the ones that pay for it). Enjoy! [email protected]

For family and friends that live nearby, this year I’m going to make a large pot of soup and take a bowl of it over to them (enough to feed the whole family of course) and give them the gift of a night off of dinner-duty. Soup is a cheap meal to make, and I know any mom would appreciate a night off of making dinner! Just make sure to take it over BEFORE Christmas, so the recipients can really appreciate it during the busy Christmas season. And if they can’t use it that night for dinner, you can let them know that they can freeze it and use it another night when it would be more convenient.

The best way I can think of that we have saved at least 1$ a day from our budget is I have been making my daughter’s lunches for school every day. I used to just send her to school with lunch money then I realized how quickly the money went. Also, I learned that there are some days she doesn’t eat the lunch that is provided for her. So, I have been making her lunches. AND, since she doesn’t have a midday appetite, I only pack her 1/2 of a sandwich.

I send special homemade treats when I can. I also try to keep the bags from when we eat out and she gets a kid’s happy meal. Another fun thing we try to do is when the menu is printed, we will go through it together and she tells me a couple of favorite meals. I will either let her get hot lunches on those days or I will make sure I make them for dinner or for an after school snack!

    Comment 2… Just subscribed!

We have a programmable thermostat so we can program it to be 2 degrees cooler in the evenings and kick up a little bit right before we wake up. Also, on Sundays while at church it turns down.

We are also conservative about the temperature that we keep it on. We try to wear warmer clothes and use extra blankets. We also look for any drafts and make sure all of the sealant on our windows and doors is efficient.

Hi again… comment 3… just promoted this contest with a link back to your site thru Twitter!

We eat our left overs! Yep! I used to hate eating left overs, so I try to repurpose them. For example, even though spaghetti is pretty budget friendly, I will keep the left over pasta, mix with an egg and some parmesan cheese. Then, I press it into a greased glass pie pan into a crust looking dish. I spoon the sauce on the middle, keeping the edges visible so that it looks like a pie. I then top it with mozzarella cheese, wrap it with foil and plop into the fridge for tomorrow’s meal! Next night the kids are excited to have noodle pie!

Never drive if you can walk. Walk to the convenience store for milk, ice, lottery tickets. Walk to the grocery store to pick up that little item you forgot. Walk to the drug store. Not only do you save on gas and wear and tear on your car and tires, but you get your body fit while doing so.

Hey there — nice to meet you!

I'm Tara: mom of 5 teens/tweens and one 80-lb. Weimaraner, who fancies herself a lap dog. Born and raised in Ohio (GO BUCKS!!!), my fave things include cooking + baking, my JEEP Rubicon, the 4x4 beaches at OBX, and checking out the local craft beer scene...

As you can imagine, all of this puts a good dent in my monthly budget. So I've learned how to save on the things I NEED, so I can spend on the things I WANT.
