BIG Giveaway: $500 Walmart Gift Card Sponsored by Nickelodeon

December 2, 2008 by Tara Kuczykowski

Nickelodeon
I’ve hinted about it for days now, and finally here it is – your chance to win a $500 Walmart gift card!!!

walmart-500-gift-cardJust in time to make your holidays a little happier, Nickelodeon and Walmart have teamed up to offer this fabulous contest hosted by the Elevenmoms.

Yep, that’s right – each Elevenmom is giving away one $500 gift card on her blog, so you have 20 chances to win! Find details on the Elevenmoms site on how you can enter to win each one. Please note that you may only win once.

So who wants to add $500 to their holiday budget? You didn’t really think I was going to make this EASY for you, did you? You’re going to have to work a little bit for a prize this big.

In light of the tough economic times, this contest is all about discovering new ways to help each other save money. Yesterday I wrote a post detailing seven easy ways to cut at least $1 from your budget per day in the hopes that it would inspire you to participate in The One Dollar Give. I only just scratched the surface though, and I know that you all have some amazing tips to share as well.

So there you go – holiday-themed or not, I want you to share your best methods for cutting back by at least $1 a day!

Methods of Entry*

Every reader can submit up to three (3) different tips to enter this contest. Choose one each of any combination of method one, two, or three for up to a total of 3 entries!!!

YOU MUST LEAVE A TIP WITH EACH ENTRY. ENTRIES THAT DO NOT FOLLOW THE GUIDELINES BELOW WILL BE DELETED.

1. Leave a comment sharing your best money-saving tip to cut at least $1 a day out of your budget!

2. Subscribe to my feed via RSS or email and leave a separate comment letting me know you have done so along with another money-saving tip. If you’re already a subscriber, simply leave a separate comment letting me know you’re already subscribed along with another money-saving tip. Lovin’ my subscribers! You guys make this all possible.

3. Spread the word about this contest in some manner and come back and leave a link in a separate comment along with another money-saving tip. If you have a blog, you can blog about it. But if you don’t have a blog, you’re not at a disadvantage. You could review and Stumble it. You could Twitter it. You could post about it in a forum. Use your imagination!

*Please read the rules for entering and the timeline information carefully as this contest differs from the usual giveaways that I host.

It is important that you leave a separate comment for each type of entry because each comment is equal to one entry. Sorry to harp on this, but it really is that important to tally and select the winner easily, so I thank you from the bottom of my heart for helping me simplify the process!

Prize:
1 $500 Walmart Gift Card

This giveaway ends at 11:59 p.m. EDT on Monday, December 15th. The judges will select ten of their favorite entries to be highlighted on Deal Seeking Mom, and I’ll use Random.org to select the winning comment.  The winner will be posted on Tuesday, December 16th, and the prize will be mailed out on December 17th. Good luck!

While you’re in a contest entering mood, don’t forget to check out the Giveaway Gathering for a variety of contests being hosted on Deal Seeking Mom readers’ blogs!

Bring your calculator: Is 24 ounces for $1.00 better than 36 ounces for $1.25? Bring a calculator with you to figure out the best deal.

My biggest money saving tip for us is go to Walmart to get your groceries that aren’t a good buy elsewhere. I save a ton of money every month by switching from Pick n Save to Walmart. A simple thing like a package of Pilsbury cinnamon rolls last I checked was $2.17 a package at PnS. I can get them regular price for $2.00 at Walmart and sometimes on sale which is frequent anywhere from $1.50-$1.66. I easily end up buying 5 or 6 packages a week that is a total savings of $3.06 on one item weekly when on sale.

When we go to Mc Donalds and it is on our way home I order off the dollar menu and let them have a soda with it at home. Instead of getting two chicken happy meals, cheeseburger happy meal and two value meals to feed five kids I can get away with a 3 double cheeseburgers, a 6 piece chicken and 4 value fries. It really ends up adding up and they are content with taking it home and having a soda from home.

Two of our children are older and into name brand clothing. The only time they are allowed to get those items is if it is a really good deal or on clearance. Our oldest son who is a senior is in big into the brand South Pole. By watching the clearance I was able to get all of his school shirts for $7.99 and less instead of the full price of $19.99 or more. I also watch the clearance for our three younger children and try to buy ahead for the next year. You can save a ton of money that way. We couldn’t give them some of the things they want without doing it that way and they have learned to wait for those deals instead of having to have on impulse.

I brought a kettle to work and just make instant coffee instead of buying it at the coffee shops, that saved a lot of money.

I started packing my kids lunches instead of letting them buy at school. Not only did it save money, but they are eating ehalthier now.

Brown bag leftovers instead of throwing out or giving to the dog. It’ll also make you a better cook if you know you might eat it again!

In my household instead of using paper towels we use cloth napkins whenever possible (this really cuts down on the amount of paper towels that I buy).

I read some of the posts and they all have good advice, the water, cutting down on fast foods, etc. I know we started saving by having the kids and my spouse bring their lunches rather than buy them. My daughter did not like the school lunches half the time, except for the pizza, and so my money was being wasted on food not eaten. This way I pack her food she likes, in a lunch box, not a throw away bag, and I know she is eating it, and I can make sure it is also nutritious.

I'm Tara: mom of 5 teens/tweens and one 80-lb. Weimaraner, who fancies herself a lap dog. Born and raised in Ohio (GO BUCKS!!!), my fave things include cooking + baking, my JEEP Rubicon, the 4x4 beaches at OBX, and checking out the local craft beer scene...

As you can imagine, all of this puts a good dent in my monthly budget. So I've learned how to save on the things I NEED, so I can spend on the things I WANT.
