BIG Giveaway: $500 Walmart Gift Card Sponsored by Nickelodeon

December 2, 2008 by Tara Kuczykowski

Nickelodeon
I’ve hinted about it for days now, and finally here it is – your chance to win a $500 Walmart gift card!!!

walmart-500-gift-cardJust in time to make your holidays a little happier, Nickelodeon and Walmart have teamed up to offer this fabulous contest hosted by the Elevenmoms.

Yep, that’s right – each Elevenmom is giving away one $500 gift card on her blog, so you have 20 chances to win! Find details on the Elevenmoms site on how you can enter to win each one. Please note that you may only win once.

So who wants to add $500 to their holiday budget? You didn’t really think I was going to make this EASY for you, did you? You’re going to have to work a little bit for a prize this big.

In light of the tough economic times, this contest is all about discovering new ways to help each other save money. Yesterday I wrote a post detailing seven easy ways to cut at least $1 from your budget per day in the hopes that it would inspire you to participate in The One Dollar Give. I only just scratched the surface though, and I know that you all have some amazing tips to share as well.

So there you go – holiday-themed or not, I want you to share your best methods for cutting back by at least $1 a day!

Methods of Entry*

Every reader can submit up to three (3) different tips to enter this contest. Choose one each of any combination of method one, two, or three for up to a total of 3 entries!!!

YOU MUST LEAVE A TIP WITH EACH ENTRY. ENTRIES THAT DO NOT FOLLOW THE GUIDELINES BELOW WILL BE DELETED.

1. Leave a comment sharing your best money-saving tip to cut at least $1 a day out of your budget!

2. Subscribe to my feed via RSS or email and leave a separate comment letting me know you have done so along with another money-saving tip. If you’re already a subscriber, simply leave a separate comment letting me know you’re already subscribed along with another money-saving tip. Lovin’ my subscribers! You guys make this all possible.

3. Spread the word about this contest in some manner and come back and leave a link in a separate comment along with another money-saving tip. If you have a blog, you can blog about it. But if you don’t have a blog, you’re not at a disadvantage. You could review and Stumble it. You could Twitter it. You could post about it in a forum. Use your imagination!

*Please read the rules for entering and the timeline information carefully as this contest differs from the usual giveaways that I host.

It is important that you leave a separate comment for each type of entry because each comment is equal to one entry. Sorry to harp on this, but it really is that important to tally and select the winner easily, so I thank you from the bottom of my heart for helping me simplify the process!

Prize:
1 $500 Walmart Gift Card

This giveaway ends at 11:59 p.m. EDT on Monday, December 15th. The judges will select ten of their favorite entries to be highlighted on Deal Seeking Mom, and I’ll use Random.org to select the winning comment.  The winner will be posted on Tuesday, December 16th, and the prize will be mailed out on December 17th. Good luck!

While you’re in a contest entering mood, don’t forget to check out the Giveaway Gathering for a variety of contests being hosted on Deal Seeking Mom readers’ blogs!

if you are a big bottled water drinker, why not buy a cheap ($20) water filtration system for your faucet and give up buying a case or 2 of water each week? it’s saved us a ton of money in the long run!

I think all the good tips have been given! But I will still add my two cents..oh wait..I mean $1’s worth! I am positive that my CVSing has saved us at least that much a day. I have spent such a tiny amount of our budget on toothpaste, soap, shampoo, and other toiletries! I’m sure there are weeks we are operating on ‘free toiletries.’ I totally heart CVS. I have also signed up online for all of our local resturants for freebies! When hubby and I want a night out or if we’re treating one of our kids to a special birthday meal..it’s nice to have a coupon to use! Warm Christmas wishes and new year blessings to all of you in the frugal cyber world!

    just subscribed via RSS!

second tip: like renting movies? go to RedBox.com and sign up for their emails and they will send you a code each Monday to redeem for a free rental at any Redbox location! you can redeem this code one time for each credit card you use. We usually get 5 free movies a week! When you compare this to renting at Blockbuster, you’re saving anywhere from $3-$15 a week by going this route.

third tip: learn how to utilize the drugstore deals (CVS, Walgreens, Rite Aid) because you can often combine deals and coupons to get free household supplies and personal care items! I have a closet shelf full of free shampoo and toothpaste from doing this!

When my Mom and I are eating out at the Olive Garden, when we order their lunch specials @ only $6.95 each, I tell my Mom ‘let’s order water with a lemon and save almost $6’! Awesome! We walk away with 4 soups, 2 salads and 2 orders of breadsticks for a low price! :)

    I subscribed! Thank you!
Tip 1: A simple way to cut at least $1 a day is the following: If you are a person that likes to drink sodas instead of buying one at $.60 a can. Purchase a box of soda on sale and take the soda to work on a daily basis or leave it at your desk/office. This will decrease you expenditure and save you money in the long run.
Tip 2:In addition, every time I leave the house to avoid having to purchase foods in the street I prepare my son a lunch box with snacks and always leave with a zippy cup in hand.

Price out items/unit at different stores. I figured out that I was saving money on some items bought at Sams but not others. I’m a little more careful about that, now!

Already an RSS subscriber via Google Reader, so here’s entry #2:

Save $1/day by skipping the soda machine/convenience store purchase and bringing something from home (that you ideally purchased on a great deal!)

My husband used to get coffee from Starbuck’s every single morning. I got him to switch from that to the local Super America coffee/cappucinnos – that saved us about $3.00/day. Now, I have him switched and we make his coffee in the morning and he never has to stop to get coffee anymore. This actually saves us about $1.29/day now!

    My next tip:
We are very energy conscious (sp?) We only turn on the lights when it is actually dark in a room. We make sure to only watch tv in the evening – after supper as family time. I don’t run the dishwasher unless we have had people over for dinner. We unplug items when not in use. By doing these things alone – we have cut down our electric bill by $54 each month so far!!

Bringing cut up celery, carrots or bell pepper sticks to work is a great way to enjoy a mid afternoon snack instead of heading to the snack machine.

I make sure to pack snacks and of course some water with me when I go to school. since my classes ate 2.5 hours long, its important i have snacks to prevent me from going to the vending machine during break. That will save me 1.00!

Take a reusable bottle of water with you when you leave the house. Stop buying water & sodas when you’re out.

Hey there — nice to meet you!

I'm Tara: mom of 5 teens/tweens and one 80-lb. Weimaraner, who fancies herself a lap dog. Born and raised in Ohio (GO BUCKS!!!), my fave things include cooking + baking, my JEEP Rubicon, the 4x4 beaches at OBX, and checking out the local craft beer scene...

As you can imagine, all of this puts a good dent in my monthly budget. So I've learned how to save on the things I NEED, so I can spend on the things I WANT.
