Yep, that’s right – each Elevenmom is giving away one $500 gift card on her blog, so you have 20 chances to win! Find details on the Elevenmoms site on how you can enter to win each one. Please note that you may only win once.
So who wants to add $500 to their holiday budget? You didn’t really think I was going to make this EASY for you, did you? You’re going to have to work a little bit for a prize this big.
In light of the tough economic times, this contest is all about discovering new ways to help each other save money. Yesterday I wrote a post detailing seven easy ways to cut at least $1 from your budget per day in the hopes that it would inspire you to participate in The One Dollar Give. I only just scratched the surface though, and I know that you all have some amazing tips to share as well.
So there you go – holiday-themed or not, I want you to share your best methods for cutting back by at least $1 a day!

Tip # 3 I took a notebook and wrote down everything we spent for one month. I then added up how much we spent right down to the last penny . It was a real wake up call for me. I now stick to a budget and use coupons. Just by doing this task it has saved us at least 100 a month.

My husband and I decided to only have basic cable. This saves way more than a dollar a day, not to mention all the time we have to do more important things. If you aren’t ready to go basic, just take it down one pay level. Be firm in your decision, because the sales rep will try to persuade you to keep what you have.

My tip for saving $1 a day would be to TURN OFF THE LIGHTS WHEN THEY ARE NOT BEING USED! I am constantly going behind them turning off lights. Such a small thing that adds up :)

My next tip on how to save a dollar a day is to use a programmable thermostat. It allows you to automatically turn the heat down when you are sleeping and away from home. The best part is that you can set it to warm up just before you get out of bed or just before you come home so you don’t notice that the house wasn’t warm for a period.

I am a subscriber to your blog and here is my other tip. Buy your college students textbooks through ebay or half.com. The first semester we bought ours though the college bookstore and paid about 600.00 since then we have used other sources and paid less than half of that price each semester.

Money Saving Tip: I stopped driving my kids to school in the morning. It saves way more than $1 a day (more like $200/mth) and really helps us be more organized.
Not holiday, but it helps your budget so you have more for holiday shopping :)

To save $1 a day, be sure to turn off OR unplug all electrical appliances that aren’t in use. Phone chargers, coffee pots, the computer… you waste a lot of money to have these items running constantly.
