BIG Giveaway: $500 Walmart Gift Card Sponsored by Nickelodeon

December 2, 2008 by Tara Kuczykowski

Nickelodeon
I’ve hinted about it for days now, and finally here it is – your chance to win a $500 Walmart gift card!!!

walmart-500-gift-cardJust in time to make your holidays a little happier, Nickelodeon and Walmart have teamed up to offer this fabulous contest hosted by the Elevenmoms.

Yep, that’s right – each Elevenmom is giving away one $500 gift card on her blog, so you have 20 chances to win! Find details on the Elevenmoms site on how you can enter to win each one. Please note that you may only win once.

So who wants to add $500 to their holiday budget? You didn’t really think I was going to make this EASY for you, did you? You’re going to have to work a little bit for a prize this big.

In light of the tough economic times, this contest is all about discovering new ways to help each other save money. Yesterday I wrote a post detailing seven easy ways to cut at least $1 from your budget per day in the hopes that it would inspire you to participate in The One Dollar Give. I only just scratched the surface though, and I know that you all have some amazing tips to share as well.

So there you go – holiday-themed or not, I want you to share your best methods for cutting back by at least $1 a day!

Methods of Entry*

Every reader can submit up to three (3) different tips to enter this contest. Choose one each of any combination of method one, two, or three for up to a total of 3 entries!!!

YOU MUST LEAVE A TIP WITH EACH ENTRY. ENTRIES THAT DO NOT FOLLOW THE GUIDELINES BELOW WILL BE DELETED.

1. Leave a comment sharing your best money-saving tip to cut at least $1 a day out of your budget!

2. Subscribe to my feed via RSS or email and leave a separate comment letting me know you have done so along with another money-saving tip. If you’re already a subscriber, simply leave a separate comment letting me know you’re already subscribed along with another money-saving tip. Lovin’ my subscribers! You guys make this all possible.

3. Spread the word about this contest in some manner and come back and leave a link in a separate comment along with another money-saving tip. If you have a blog, you can blog about it. But if you don’t have a blog, you’re not at a disadvantage. You could review and Stumble it. You could Twitter it. You could post about it in a forum. Use your imagination!

*Please read the rules for entering and the timeline information carefully as this contest differs from the usual giveaways that I host.

It is important that you leave a separate comment for each type of entry because each comment is equal to one entry. Sorry to harp on this, but it really is that important to tally and select the winner easily, so I thank you from the bottom of my heart for helping me simplify the process!

Prize:
1 $500 Walmart Gift Card

This giveaway ends at 11:59 p.m. EDT on Monday, December 15th. The judges will select ten of their favorite entries to be highlighted on Deal Seeking Mom, and I’ll use Random.org to select the winning comment.  The winner will be posted on Tuesday, December 16th, and the prize will be mailed out on December 17th. Good luck!

While you’re in a contest entering mood, don’t forget to check out the Giveaway Gathering for a variety of contests being hosted on Deal Seeking Mom readers’ blogs!

    Tip for my entry:

you really really do not need cable. lol I know I know. extreme! but for reals. you can watch anything online these days. instead of cable. we have a dvd player, VCR, a library card and a subscription to Netflix… $18 a month and we get to watch movies on line any time…. I love it. :-)

When you are really tempted to eat out, even with the dollar menu, take a minute and make a quick simple meal for your family- like pancakes, sandwiches, quesadillas or chicken and rice. Even with a small family, you will be saving several dollars. If you do this once a week, you’ll be saving more than a dollar a day.

Use rewards on cards when you have them! I filled my 14 gallon gas tank for $6.51! I had enough reward points from Pick N Save to cover the rest.

Another tip I do instead of renting from Blockbuster, we rent from Redbox. We even get promo codes sometimes, and use them.

I make rules for my coupon shopping budget so that I don’t spend more then a certain amount on a particular product because w/ a coupon and on sale it will be cheaper. For example I never pay more than $1 for a box of cereal. So when it is on sale and have a coupon to make it at or less then $1 then I stock up if not then a pass on the sale.

I make my own household cleaners using vinegar, baking soda, bleach and borax. I use wash cloths and old towels and t-shirts instead of paper towels. I also bake my own bread.

BTW, this is an AWESOME giveaway!

Turn the thermostat down by 3 degrees and buy flannel sheets to sleep with. In the summer, to keep it cooler use ceiling fans to circulate the cool air!

    Tip:
I make my own laundry detergent… the supplies only cost $6 the first time.. after that about $2 every 3 weeks. Tell me that isn’t more than a buck a day. Oh, and the gunk works really really well! :-)

Rather than going to the movies with your family, pick up a $1 rental from Red Box or other similar kiosks and enjoy a movie at home. Assuming a family of 4 who buys two popcorns, we are talking about a cost of $42 ($7.00 tickets (x4) and $4.00 small popcorns (x4) and $3.00 small soda’s (x4) is a total cost of $56 dollars. If a family goes to the movies . If the family goes once every two months, that is a cost of $336 a year! A family could instead having a weekly movie night (bonus if they use the free code Red Box gives on Mondays!) they would only have a cost of $52 dollars a year – and a lot more movies to watch! A bag of microwave popcorn and some soda’s can be added to match the fun of the cinema. :)

I’m already a subscriber via Blogger dashboard!

How do we save money every day? Too many ways to list, but this one is an easy one for me! Cook at HOME!
We have learned to keep frozen pizzas in the freezer for those nights we are tempted to order out. It really saves SO much money! $15 for a pizza delivered vs popping one in the oven for maybe $5 depending on whether or not I used coupons or got in on a BOGO deal! :)

Also, I buy and sell items on our local yard sale website…
    http://www.wilmingtonyardsales.com
I know not every area has one, but they are starting to pop up everywhere!

Open your blinds and curtains during the day rather than turning on the lights in a room. Every little bit helps reduce the electricity which saves money.

Wow! This is great! A good tip to save $1 a day is to stop using paper products( plates, cups, etc…) since its harmful for the environment. Get out that new china and put it to good use!

Hey there — nice to meet you!

I'm Tara: mom of 5 teens/tweens and one 80-lb. Weimaraner, who fancies herself a lap dog. Born and raised in Ohio (GO BUCKS!!!), my fave things include cooking + baking, my JEEP Rubicon, the 4x4 beaches at OBX, and checking out the local craft beer scene...

As you can imagine, all of this puts a good dent in my monthly budget. So I've learned how to save on the things I NEED, so I can spend on the things I WANT.
