BIG Giveaway: $500 Walmart Gift Card Sponsored by Nickelodeon

December 2, 2008 by Tara Kuczykowski

Nickelodeon
I’ve hinted about it for days now, and finally here it is – your chance to win a $500 Walmart gift card!!!

walmart-500-gift-cardJust in time to make your holidays a little happier, Nickelodeon and Walmart have teamed up to offer this fabulous contest hosted by the Elevenmoms.

Yep, that’s right – each Elevenmom is giving away one $500 gift card on her blog, so you have 20 chances to win! Find details on the Elevenmoms site on how you can enter to win each one. Please note that you may only win once.

So who wants to add $500 to their holiday budget? You didn’t really think I was going to make this EASY for you, did you? You’re going to have to work a little bit for a prize this big.

In light of the tough economic times, this contest is all about discovering new ways to help each other save money. Yesterday I wrote a post detailing seven easy ways to cut at least $1 from your budget per day in the hopes that it would inspire you to participate in The One Dollar Give. I only just scratched the surface though, and I know that you all have some amazing tips to share as well.

So there you go – holiday-themed or not, I want you to share your best methods for cutting back by at least $1 a day!

Methods of Entry*

Every reader can submit up to three (3) different tips to enter this contest. Choose one each of any combination of method one, two, or three for up to a total of 3 entries!!!

YOU MUST LEAVE A TIP WITH EACH ENTRY. ENTRIES THAT DO NOT FOLLOW THE GUIDELINES BELOW WILL BE DELETED.

1. Leave a comment sharing your best money-saving tip to cut at least $1 a day out of your budget!

2. Subscribe to my feed via RSS or email and leave a separate comment letting me know you have done so along with another money-saving tip. If you’re already a subscriber, simply leave a separate comment letting me know you’re already subscribed along with another money-saving tip. Lovin’ my subscribers! You guys make this all possible.

3. Spread the word about this contest in some manner and come back and leave a link in a separate comment along with another money-saving tip. If you have a blog, you can blog about it. But if you don’t have a blog, you’re not at a disadvantage. You could review and Stumble it. You could Twitter it. You could post about it in a forum. Use your imagination!

*Please read the rules for entering and the timeline information carefully as this contest differs from the usual giveaways that I host.

It is important that you leave a separate comment for each type of entry because each comment is equal to one entry. Sorry to harp on this, but it really is that important to tally and select the winner easily, so I thank you from the bottom of my heart for helping me simplify the process!

Prize:
1 $500 Walmart Gift Card

This giveaway ends at 11:59 p.m. EDT on Monday, December 15th. The judges will select ten of their favorite entries to be highlighted on Deal Seeking Mom, and I’ll use Random.org to select the winning comment.  The winner will be posted on Tuesday, December 16th, and the prize will be mailed out on December 17th. Good luck!

While you’re in a contest entering mood, don’t forget to check out the Giveaway Gathering for a variety of contests being hosted on Deal Seeking Mom readers’ blogs!

Having a plan in place for your meals for the week and some quick, easy meals on hand will save you from running to get takeout, which could easily add $15.00 to your weekly budget.

We invested in motion sensor light switches. So when the kids forget the lights on when they don’t detect motion it shuts the light off. You can set it to shut off in 30 seconds with no motion, or longer, your choice. You can also set them for how dark it has to be before the lights even come on! Great for little ones who leave the lights on for hours without notice!

I am a subscriber. My second tip is constantly re-evaluate the items you use in your life. You will find more and more ways to save money. For instance, in the past I have used store-bought pie crusts to make my pies. This Thanksgiving I chose to not buy two packages of crusts and made my own and saved some money. I also make my own pizza crusts instead of buying store-bought ones. Keep changing things up and making improvements to keep saving more money. hae773201 at yahoo dot com

Last year our city increased our electric rate by 40%. Being a SAHM I freaked out at first. Then I did a little research and found it is easy and cheap to start going green. I scheduled on my calendar to clean/change the filters in the house so that a reminder pops up at the first of each month. I changed all the light bulbs in the house to compact fluorescent. If you can find 8 hours each day to raise the temp on your thermostat, you can save big! We already had programmable thermostats so we agreed to raise/lower the temp a couple of degrees above/below where we kept it AND from 11 pm until 7 pm I raised/lowered it by 5 degrees – we didn’t even notice because we were sleeping! Net/net is our electric bill has stayed about the same as it was before the 40% hike with just a few easy changes! It makes me feel good knowing I’m being a good steward of not only the income God has blessed us with, but also our wonderful planet!

    Finally subscribed!

Tip #2: This one sounds silly but I’m a big believer that it really works. Clean your kitchen before you go to bed each night. I know after a long day it is tempting to let the dishes wait until morning. Commit to this and when you walk into a clean kitchen the next morning you will be more inspired to cook and not as tempted to eat out!

I save $1 a day by wearing my glasses more often. This way I am not paying for contacts for 365 days a year.

I skip the fancy coffee and make coffee at home. With all the flavored creamers out there I can make a delicious cup of coffee at home, at a fraction of the price!

    Thanks!

Do not get or use credit cards which will keep you from having an extra bill and huge interest payments. If you just use the cash you have you will not end up in debt so easily.

I subscribe to your blog…that’s how I found out about this contest! :]

#2 tip – always read over your bank statements and bills. I just found a mistake on my cable bill that netted me a $45 credit AND they gave me a discount on my internet service for the trouble.

My favorite way to save money, such as a dollar a day, is to Super Coupon. I wait for the great deals and stock up, getting $160 in groceries for $30. Then I don’t have to pay regular price for things, thus saving at least a dollar each day.

We’ve tried to cut out the use of all ziploc type bags and paper plates. Sure, it takes a little bit more time to wash dishes but you will save in the long run without having to buy those all the time! And you save part of the earth also.

Hey there — nice to meet you!

I'm Tara: mom of 5 teens/tweens and one 80-lb. Weimaraner, who fancies herself a lap dog. Born and raised in Ohio (GO BUCKS!!!), my fave things include cooking + baking, my JEEP Rubicon, the 4x4 beaches at OBX, and checking out the local craft beer scene...

As you can imagine, all of this puts a good dent in my monthly budget. So I've learned how to save on the things I NEED, so I can spend on the things I WANT.
