In today’s technology-driven world, the importance of backing up data can’t be understated. Whether you keep important documents or priceless photos on your hard drive, you run the risk of losing it all without proper backups.
The Seagate FreeAgent Go portable hard drive is a great solution for securing your data, especially if your family has more than one computer.
The FreeAgent Go will makes it easy to backup your entire computer and then some. Seagate sent me one of these little contraptions to try out for myself, and seriously, it’s so simple that even my 5 year old could set it up. I just plugged it into the USB port, and the installation process started up automatically.
Features that I love (besides the cool red and chrome colors):
- Automated scheduled backups – one less thing I have to remember is always fine by me!
- Syncs folders between computers – I often switch between my laptop and netbook, so this will be a huge timesaver.
- Docking station – makes keeping it connected to your main computer easy, but it’s also easy to hook up to another computer!
- Password protection of the drive – no worries about curious little people erasing my backed up files!
With 500GB of memory, this external hard drive should have plenty of space to backup my photos, documents, and iTunes music collection safely for many years to come.

I have a EHD to back up, but can never have enough back up and with my current 250 GB…there’s always need for another. I am a scrapbooker and photographer and would be devasted if I lost everything. I also use Mozy to back up my EHD in case it goes bad.

I had an external hard drive that did back up all my photos and digital scrapbooking stuff, then it crashed and I was devistated. After many tears, heart aches and phone calls my brothers friends was able to recover the data!!!!!!!!!! So now I need a new harddrive and will definitely be making 2 backups off all my precious computer info.

On my harddrive the important things are my son’s photos/videos, my canning recipes, and my books. Nearly went insane a couple of weeks ago when my computer crashed and I couldn’t get on it. Fortunately the hard drive was intact and retrievable. I don’t have back ups at the moment because this is a laptop, and I don’t have anything large enough to hold the back up (small usb drive and a read only CD drive). Although after the crash, I moved as much off as I could using the USB drive.

I’m already subscribed to the forums, I’ve been wanting an external hard drive for a while now. My last computer gave me the blue screen of death and I was fortunate to get all of my pictures off of there (thanks to a computer geek).
My pictures are so precious to me! I also have a ton of recipes on there that I would hate loosing

I do my best to back-up regularly. Saw too many people loose valuable stuff in grad school! I’d hate to loose my work and especially all the photos of the little one!

This external hard drive would be a lifesaver!! I am a college student, avid photographer, and edit videos as a side hobby. This massive hard drive would be able to help me save my tons of school work, thousands of photos and hours of digital video that I use for my projects. It would have also helped when I had my laptop recently virus attacked and had to wipe the whole thing…during finals week at school!

Oh did I mention my 4500+ song iTunes library? haha

Oh my word!! I have to have this!! I just learned about backing up stuff on your computer the hard way. My computer got a terrible virus about two weeks ago and I had to take it to Best Buy to get rid of it because I couldn’t do anything on my computer. It wouldn’t let me click on any buttons to even get rid of it. I found out that I had 7,321 pictures on my hard drive that I was probably going to loose. So I cried, right there in Best Buy. How embarassing, but a hard lesson learned. Thankfully the amazing people at Best Buy were able to save MOST of my stuff and I will now be backing up every picture I have!

just last week i spilled a whole glass of water on my laptop. i was terrified i lost my massive amounts of pictures and music. i’ve been looking for one of these and this would be perfect!

Yes we back-up our stuff, I have always been in charge of the pictures and my husband the video. Unfortunately we could not back up all the video of my daughter on our old computer (it only fit on our external) so we bought a new computer. In the process of transfer the external was dropped – and we lost my daughter’s whole first year of life on video!!!!! I was (and still am) heartbroken. We got a new external to go with the new computer so now we are able to back up video too, but still. We will definitely have to get another external when this one fills because I am NOT going through that ever again.
