In today’s technology-driven world, the importance of backing up data can’t be understated. Whether you keep important documents or priceless photos on your hard drive, you run the risk of losing it all without proper backups.
The Seagate FreeAgent Go portable hard drive is a great solution for securing your data, especially if your family has more than one computer.
The FreeAgent Go will makes it easy to backup your entire computer and then some. Seagate sent me one of these little contraptions to try out for myself, and seriously, it’s so simple that even my 5 year old could set it up. I just plugged it into the USB port, and the installation process started up automatically.
Features that I love (besides the cool red and chrome colors):
- Automated scheduled backups – one less thing I have to remember is always fine by me!
- Syncs folders between computers – I often switch between my laptop and netbook, so this will be a huge timesaver.
- Docking station – makes keeping it connected to your main computer easy, but it’s also easy to hook up to another computer!
- Password protection of the drive – no worries about curious little people erasing my backed up files!
With 500GB of memory, this external hard drive should have plenty of space to backup my photos, documents, and iTunes music collection safely for many years to come.

I truly need to back up my extensive photo archives. I used to put everything on CDs, but haven’t done that in ages. That’s an invitation for disaster, isn’t it?!

Everything, pictures, files, etc are all saved on my computer. Currently, I don’t have any way of backing them up. So if I lost them, yes, I’d be completely devastated.

I would use the drive to back up all my documents. I once lost my thumbdrive once and when I got it back, all my files were corrupted. I lost years and years of files. My reading list that I have carefully maintained for four years, gone. My painstakingly written essays, creative writing papers and analysis papers, gone. I seriously wanted to cry and beat my head on the wall. I also want to back up videos and pictures of my family. My dad rebooted the computer without telling me before and I lost everything again. So I started to burn all media–documents, pictures, videos–onto 700mb CD’s which didn’t hold enough. I have enormous stacks of picture CD’s and videos that just sit in a corner. It is tedious to look through and find the right CD I want to look at. Having this portable hard drive will be extremely useful for me as a college student also. I can store/backup all my homework.

I am bad about back stuff up on our computers. We currently have 4 laptops and a desktop in our home. My husband is in college full time. My daughter does a lot of writing. And with 8 children, we take a LOT of pictures!

We do have a back up but it’s getting full and fast. I have a ton of pictures from my kids to scanning all my grandparents pictures and slides, all the way back to the 1800’s! :)

I would absolutely love to have this. We have recently downsized and have found that we have no where to store the grandkids 300+ vhs tapes. With something like this, I could probably convert them all (if not the biggest majority) into one much smaller location.

I do use an external backup drive at my office, but I’ve got plenty of pictures & knitting patterns (!) that I’d hate to lose. I could use another backup unit for home.
