Is something bugging you?! Bestselling award-winner David Shannon shows the funny side of waging war against–oh no!–head lice. Bugs in My Hair is guaranteed to make you laugh–and itch! From the opening picture of a happy, over-sized louse appearing with his suitcases, you know these bugs are determined to stay, and Mom is about to go nuts!
Author David Shannon peppers his hilarious scenes with fun, “nitpicking” facts about these “lousy” critters and pokes fun at common denial: “It’s probably ash from that volcano in Pogo Pogo.” Once again Shannon has created a fresh, highly entertaining read-aloud classic that begs to be read again and again.
“If anyone can make a case of head lice fun, it’s Shannon. He humorously captures and normalizes the panic, embarrassment, and tedium of this common grade-school affliction. Even the mom’s reactions — first panic, then phantom head-itch, then mountains of laundry — are perfect!”
–Susan Kunhardt, Book Passage, Corte Madera, CA

Had them in first grade because I shared a locker with a girl who had them. I’ve never laughed about it though and as long and thick as my hair is, I’ll certainly not laugh if any of my children come home with it. Yikes!

Never had it in our family. *knock on wood*. I know it’s a pain for anyone to deal with, but all my kids have thick, curly hair, even more of a hassle.

My kids got it when they were small. Oh gosh, I was a nervous wreck!!

I got head live when I was in second grade….got it from my locker partner….I’ll never forget it! Also when I worked at a youth shelter in college, many times I was stuck combing out kids hair…..not fun but someone had to do it!

Everyone in my 3rd grade class seemed to be getting lice so I was convinced I had it. My mom had to take me to 4 doctors before I thought, “OK, maybe I’m fine.”

I am a member of the FB community. I remember my mother sitting there with that tiny comb getting the lice out of my hair! I had long, straight, thick hair, so it was no easy task!

I am completely thankful that we have not had to deal with head lice yet. I have three sons, but I keep their hair somewhat short, and I also use hair gel to spike it up. Not sure how true it is, but the nurse at school said that they won’t mess with hair full of gel.
