Hate to be cynical but I have signed up for so many free tote offers that later end up sending me an email that they are sorry but they didn't anticipate such a large interest and it was posted without their permission on various sites and yada yada and they can't ship it. And usually the are accompanied by some substitute of a teeny coupon like 10% off of their website stuff instead. There's another offer out there for Feline Pine for a tote too and that company for sure is pretty small so I suspect I'll be getting the typical can't send it email due to overwhelming response in a few weeks....sigh

I know exactly what you mean! I have done the same thing and have gotten many e-mails just like the ones you are talking about. It is so fun to get little freebies in the mail and anticipate their arrival. When companies do not send them out I often think to myself why do they come out with the promotion to begin with if they do not want to give out the product to the public.
