Have you ever received an invoice and/or phone calls regarding these free magazines? We just recently started getting a few phone calls this week from a third party company claiming they were hired by the publishers because we owe for my husband’s (weird in itself) magazine subscriptions. I politely said, no we don’t and please stop calling. I was just curious if you had received any invoices and/or phone calls about the magazines? Thanks for all you do! Sondra

Yes Sondra, I received annoying calls for about 2 weeks. The caller would ask for me and then when I asked where he was calling from, he would just say about your magazines. Every time hanging up on me. I contacted Mercury and told them of my issues. I knew it was due to signing up with them. SO, I guess the problem started with the publisher of the specific magazine I wanted. That is where my information was compromised. My beef was with Mercury, they are the first point of contact when we sign up for this stuff. Right? Anyway, it took a few days for them to figure it out and let me know. It seems to have been resolved. I haven’t gotten any more phone calls. It makes me leary of Mercury now, but a free magazine is hard to pass up sometimes! :-) Enjoy the holiday weekend!

Hmm, I’ve never had a problem like that and I’ve been doing this for years. Of course, I never give my real phone number when requesting this stuff, and I always use a junk email address.

Do you just make up a phone number?

Yeah, usually 999-999-9999 or pick an area code like 614-123-4567 and that will do the trick.

Thanks for the responses! I do use a fake # as well, however our home # is listed so I guess they must’ve crossed referenced? However, their specific # gives the option to opt out of their “special promotions” so I did (even though it can take up to 72 hours to stop the calls according to the message) that AND I told the guy trying to feed me his speel (about how we had to pay for 24 months of my husband’s 60 supposed month subscription) to stop calling our phone number. I politely told him when an invoice comes (which he swore we would be getting even though we’ve had the subscriptions for 3 months now) I will promptly dispute the charge ;) The guy didn’t even have the correct magazine subscriptions that my husband currently gets so I kind of figured something was fishy……most companies I owe $$ to send me a nice little invoice/bill so I’m sure if the publisher of the magazines wanted $ from me I would’ve received that way before now ;) Thanks again! And thanks Tara for all you do! Have a good Holiday weekend!

glad to hear a couple people got it. When I tried it said out of stock. Thought it might be just a way to get our address information. Mine didn’t ask for phone number. Sad, I would have loved this one .

I had been receiving the calls as well. They asked if I had been receiving my 5 subs. ( I havent got 5 of them) – 1st flag. When asked what mags they were, they said due to privacy laws they could only see one title -? They then wanted to verify the address and that my husband still had a Visa card. I asked which card (like the last four #s) and they said they didnt know – they knew it was a Visa card because the first # is a 4. First of all, I have not used a card to sign up for ANY mags – 2nd flag. Lastly, she transferred me to her supervisor to make sure she did a good job and he proceded to talk fast about something to do with lessening the amount to $16.95/month for all 5 mags. Im like “we dont even get 5 mags and they were all free subs when I did sign up.” He continued to restate about the payment reduction thingy and I stated my same thing again and he hung up -3rd flag. I havent received another call yet.
