Where do I enter your code? I’m not seeing a place to do that.

I tried entering the code but it said it’s not valid…. =/

Nice article but one correction: Shopkick does NOT rely on GPS to determine that you have walked into a store. GPS doesn’t generally work indoors, so Shopkick has developed their own, proprietary sensors to determine when you have entered a participating location. Here’s how it works: Shopkick installs small white emitters near the entrances of stores (you can often find them, if you look) that emit a sound that is above the normal human hearing range. Each store has it’s own sequence of tones. When the shopkick app on your smartphone hears this sound, it knows which store you have entered and serves appropriate deals and coupons.

Laurie, you’re right. A few larger companies have installed these, but I believe they are still few and far between at this point. The smaller rewards do use the GPS for checkin. Shopkick often won’t work unless you turn on your GPS to let it determine your location. It gives you error messages saying it can’t determine where you are. And, I’ve been across the street from a store before and been alerted that I got my rewards. So, it really depends on the store. Thanks for the extra info though!
