I’ve always been a huge fan of Dr. Seuss’s books! In fact, when I was expecting for the first time, my husband and I picked up a copy of Oh, Baby, the Places You’ll Go! and read it to my growing belly nightly. Though it wasn’t actually written by Ted Geisel, it was faithfully adapted by Tish Rabe, and is almost exclusively pulled from Dr. Seuss’s wide body of work.
I recall a moment of desperation as a new mom when I didn’t know how to calm my newborn baby boy, so I started reciting this book from memory, and my son instantly quieted and started listening to my words. We’ve since purchased four more copies and put them away so that we can give each of my kids one when they’re expecting their first child.
Over the years we’ve amassed quite the collection of Dr. Seuss books, including favorites like Mr. Brown Can Moo! Can You?, Dr. Seuss’s Sleep Book, and The Lorax, among many, many others. We also had a number of very well-loved Dr. Seuss board books that we’ve since passed on in the hopes of sparking a lifelong love of reading in others.
If you’ve been looking to add to your personal Dr. Seuss library, now is the time to do it! Walmarts across the U.S. are celebrating Dr. Seuss’s birthday and Read Across America with special pricing on Dr. Seuss books. Look for the special in store displays at your local store now to pick up hard cover beginner Dr. Seuss books for just $5 (reg. $8.99) and board books for just $3.50 (reg. $4.99).
At these prices, you might consider picking up a few extra copies to donate to your kids’ classrooms. Schools across the country will be participating in Read Across America on March 3rd, and I just know their teachers would be so grateful!
