Thank God! I definitely had a few choice words for them. My local walmart is so bad with coupons that Ive taken my business elsewhere…
Dawn
Honestly, Walmart doesn’t care. They make boatloads of money. People can threaten to shop elsewhere, but as long as Walmart continues to have low prices, people all over the world WILL shop there. And they’ll have no reason to listen to us couponing folks who’d like to save a few more dollars.
Tara Kuczykowski
I really think that Walmart is making an honest attempt here. They’ve taken notice of the fact that while coupon use is increasing on average, their share of coupons being used is decreasing. So let’s give them some information to work with!
Kristi G.
I was pleasantly surprised to see that they are reviewing their policy, since I was told (at my local store) that Walmart (company wide) would not take them anymore. I am still waiting to hear from the email I sent to corporate. Sometimes stores “go rogue” and do things their own way. :)

I took the survey; hope something good comes from it. I’m a big CVS shopper now because of the problems I’ve had redeeming coupons at Walmart.

I live in Council Bluffs, Iowa and have NEVER had an issue using coupons at our Wal-Mart. I use at least 2 every time I go, sometimes I use 10 or more. I also have never had an issue with price matching. I always try to go for the old ladies because their super nice to me with my coupons and ads even if they are slow. I guess I have been pretty lucky (although now that I say that I will probably have a problem next time)!

Well, I honestly think they need to have a TRAINING session with their cashiers on coupons. Last night, I went there and for the umpteenth time, each and every cashier DOES NOT know what to do with coupons and overage. They do NOT ever get it completely right. I have run into some really GOOD managers but, I think they must have a high turnover rate there or too many cashiers……..they are unable to train them effectively. It does seem to me that the younger generation doesn’t seem to care as much. I try to be NICE and patient with them but, feel horrible for the customers behind me as I train them in what to do…….then, they don’t listen to me and have to call on a manager to do it FOR THEM. Why won’t the managers SHOW them?? It does NO good to DO IT FOR THEM. SHOW THEM.
valerie
im a walmart cashier and i take offense to your comment. they train us very well, we have to do many classes in the back on the computer before we can even jump on the registers, some cashiers are ignorant, but i take any coupons for people but i guess thats changing since our boss said if a coupon dont scan through anymore we cant type them in, or take them, have you heard this anywhere?
sheri
I find it easier to use them at Walmart than Target. Target is aweful! Too bad they are not trying to improve. HA HA
Jennifer
I think I’ve had more trouble at target also.

Wow that was a short survey, haha. I hope that they do listen to our opinions and experiences!

My main complaint with my Walmart is they will not adjust for coupon overages. In most instances, I take my business elsewhere.
Maria S.
They won’t adjust coupons for me either, they just refuse any coupon that is even just one penny higher value than the item, even though my oop is super high and I only have a couple of coupons.
The register seems to prompt the cashier to check the item price when they scan a coupon that is a higher value, that’s when the coupons are DENIED.
Buuuut, it’s “ok” that everytime I shop there is at least one item i am overcharged on.
I just don’t shop there much anymore because I hate the long lines, the junky attitude in the area I’m stuck in, the trash in the parking lot, chaotic shopping enviornment, etc. I pretty much only go there now for the Chuck E Cheese string cheese that is the only one my child will eat right now, and the coupon for 12 free tokens on the package which basically pays for the cheese when redeemed.
Anne
Took the survey and explained what happen in a recent incident. Thank you!

Walmarts in my area will not take internet coupons at all. Newspaper coupons are fine though. I called customer service after walking out on an entire order and they called the store. I got a call from the manager who said she would allow me (no one else) to use internet coupons and would give the cashiers my name so I wouldnt have to call a manager to do it. I haven’t tried using internet coupons there since, so I don’t know if it would work. Althought I doubt that every cashier would remember and I would probably still have to call a manager. I told the manager that I wasn’t really happy with her solution because it would waste everyone’s time (mine, the cashiers and the people in line behind me) and I wasn’t really interested in being hated by them everytime I went to the store. I do very little shopping at Walmart now. I only buy what I can’t find cheaper anywhere else.
Chris ODonald
OMG that felt good! I sure hope they read our surveys. I tried to be keep feelings out mine and stay only factual, but it was HARD! I do not shop at Walmart anymore and thankfully I live in a big city so there are plenty of other business more than happy to take my coupons and my money. :)
Kristi G.
Funny, I just posted about the Walmart policy on another site today. I was told by a manager at my local walmart that NO Walmarts will accept coupons from the internet. She said it is a company wide policy. This was last week, so I checked to see if they had changed their coupon policy on line (they hadn’t). I emailed corporate and told them what I thought. My Target, on the other hand, is awesome!!
Kelli
I have never had a problem at walmart. They have taken all my coupons including internet. They even have allowed me overages without readjusting the coupon, which saves an extra penny or two off my purchase.
Maybe I’m just lucky or the cashiers are just to lazy to care about arguing about coupons.
judy workman
Smart idea. I took the survey but honestly I don’t think I would ever go back in there for food shopping. Do vary little shopping for other things either. I don’t shop target because of everything I read here. I have good luck at Kroger and Meijer. I hope it will change and help others who shop there.

Honestly, I have never had a problem using Qs at my local Walmarts (one a regular and one a Supercenter), including Internet Qs. Actually, sometimes the self-checkouts won’t scan Qs and I have to call over a manager to help. But for the most part I never had major issues. But then again I’m not buying stockpiles nor do I use my Qs on travel items. ;) I think that in itself saves a lot of hassle.
As far as overage, I don’t think I have ever had a Q that exceeded the price of something at Walmart. The Q was either for exact amount or less. I don’t know if anyone has noticed, but a lot of stores no longer allow overages any more anyway. I’m just happy when I can get something for free or for mere pennies.
I have not really used Qs at Walmart in about two weeks though so not sure if policy has changed or not about Internet ones. Wasn’t an issue two weeks ago though. I don’t use my food Qs very much at Walmart that are less than $1 either ‘cuz they don’t double them. I save those for grocery store that doubles. Also, I tend to shop at Target more, even though couponing is getting harder to do there thanks to hoarders and fraudulent Qs. ;)
Carol
I left my goods on the checkout at the closest Walmart once b/c they would not accept $1 Q for .99 items, but I tried them again about a year ago and it’s been a breeze ever since. Wish they had a Super W b/c all the food you profile are NOT available at my Walmart.
But Target…………..they either look at a coupon like it’s counterfeit money or have major problems with multiple coupons, overage….
When I stood firm, showed them my T policy and asked that they check their T policy for confirmation, I had to stand in line for 10-15 min. taking glares from customers (like I was being difficult), then they would not accept the policy and threatened to call the police! Really?! intimidation tactics….

My expereince at the Walmart, Fountain Square in Waukegan IL was horrible. The cashier made me feel like I was illegalling using the internet coupons. They would not take them even though I only had one coupon. The others were from the newspaper inserts. I called and spoke to the manager and she said that it was corporate wide that they are no longer accepting internet coupons. This is unacceptable since this is not corporate wide. My usual walmart in Gurnee, IL doesn’t cause any problems with the coupons I use. I do not shop at Walmart as often as I used to. It’s really frustrating. At least I know I’m not alone.
Jonisa
I think the only real problem I have while using coupons is the people behind me in line! They get extremely frustrated and I invite them to go ahead of me. I mean, when I go shopping it’s usually just once a week so I have a rather large order. I’ve had a problem at Wal-Mart maybe once because the product I had was a penny below the coupon value, but I just went to customer service and the problem was solved. It does also seem quite often that cashiers get a little “jealous”, I guess you could say, that my total quite often goes from well over $100.00 to well under $20.00. All in all, I’ve had great experiences using internet or newspaper coupons! :)
Josh
I’ve actually had more problems using coupons at Target than at Walmart.
Anita
Thank you for the link, Tara. I really do appreciate the opportunity to give Walmart some feedback. My main problem is that i always have some coupons that don’t deduct from my bill. The cashier often just hits cancel instead of taking whatever action he/she is supposed to take. Walmart keeps my coupon and they get manufacturer reimbursement for money they didn’t give up in the first place. Seems like a money-maker to me.
I have fewer problems at Target, but i hate my Kroger because they refuse to take internet coupons most of the time and if i get a cashier that WILL take them, they ALWAYS refuse B1G1 internet coupons.
Sharon Cobb
I too hope this survery does some good. I have walked out of Walmart with my items bagged & they refused to take some of my coupons so I just told them to give me all my Q’s back & I would go to Kroger & Dollar General whom are very happy to take all my Q’s. I did not step a foot in the Walmart store for 8 mos.Everything I picked up from there I can pick up at kroger, dollar general & Kmart.
Walmart does not like to take coupons for a travel size item .97 with a Mfg. Q for 1.00 off at all & if u r not careful watching them they will set it with the other Q’s acting like it scan & deducted u’r 1.00 & it did not. I caught them so many times not scanning my Q’s. I noticed it on a receipt when I gone home call the manager & sure enough the lady round them all together & put in her drawer. Yes I got my money back!
Walmart really does need to get in the 21ST century computer on line coupons are here to stay. But their customers are not.
What do they do about the people who get their coupons on their cell phone & u just show the cashier. i would like to know how that works.
Ross
I must be the lucky one here. My local Walmart is the BOMB! They also accept doublers and ANY coupons from competitors. They have assigned two lines just for couponers. These lines have a sign that says “coupon specialist”
kim
I no longer shop at Walmart. It’s not worth the time, embarassment and frustration everytime I went there. Hopefully things will change for others stil willing to try. Regardless of what happens I still plan to give my business to another store that welcomes my coupons and myself as a customer and not as a bother.
Nicole
@Ross – WHERE do you live??? I would love to go into a Walmart and see special lines just for couponers!
Donna
Took the survey and described my most recent experience using coupons at Wal-Mart. Our local Wal-Mart has an “I don’t have time to mess with this” attitude about customers who use several coupons in one transaction.I’ve found that our local Walgreen’s is much friendlier about accepting coupons and now do much of my health and beauty/household goods shopping there.
sarah
I actually don’t have issue with Walmart’s coupon policy…just there manager’s lack of following it…and there complete ignorance of coupon usage.
My walmart is a good one…the other’s around here suck….and there is one I will never return to.
Kristy
I took the survey and am so happy that they are interested in our feedback. I described the last time I went and the problems I had. I have not been back since!
Marianne
Thanks for the link to the survey, I have to agree that Walmart makes so much money they could care less what customers think of them.
My most memorable experience was when I had about 20 q’s and the cashier did not want to take the time to scan them, he told me to take them to customer service to get my money back. When I went to customer service to get it fixed the gal helping me said to the manager “who is working the first lane?” the manager said “Larry” and they both said “ah that is why they were not scanned” The manager said she would talk to him.
2nd memorable was when the cashier could not get any of them to scan she told me “I must have pushed the wrong button when I was paying for my groceries” seriously all you do is swipe your credit card-there are no buttons to push… She was dead serious.
I no longer shop there unless I am desperate…
Sharla
Our Wal-Mart Supercenter is the greatest. They take all of my coupons without a blink and they give me overages, the coupons do not adjust down to the price of the item. They also price match all other stores in town and even without my asking.
