Staples: FREE Backpacks Next Week

July 22, 2010 by Tara Kuczykowski 36 Comments

The Staples preview ad is available online now, and there’s one hot deal in particular that I want you to know about now. Staples is offering FREE backpacks after Easy Rebate next week! They had a really nice selection available last year, so you’ll want to plan on shopping early Sunday for the best choices.

I’ll post a list of the best supplies deals on Saturday!

Tamika, my situation is the opposite. My daughter wanted to buy her backpack this week but I told her that staples probably would have the easy rebate thing again, like last year. Whew!

The preview ad shows 50% off all backpacks…I think I’m missing something. I’m not real familiar with Staples rebates. Do you think they’d do this deal online? My college age daughter is out of state & I’d love for her to pick one for me to have it shipped to her.
    THANKS!

I see the same deal as Lori… 50% off. It asked for my zipcode, so I guess maybe we don’t get the deal where we live or something. :(

Here’s the fine print from the ad:

Valid 7/25/2010-7/31/2010. Valid in store, by phone or online. Limit one rebate per household. Not valid on previous purchases. Selection varies by store.

I have a question…with the paper that is $.01 after rebate…it says that you can only get 2 rebates per household…does this mean EVER. This is what I mean: 2 weeks ago, they had this same deal on the paper with the rebate. So, I currently have 2 of the rebates going through. Can I buy 2 more and get the rebates? or do my current rebates mean that I can’t get anymore?

Sara, rebates generally read 2 rebates per household, by certain dates. So under one rebate deal it may run 3 months and you can only get 2 rebates during that 3 month promotion. When a new, same promotion happens, you can get the allowed promotions then. It all depends on the fine print but sales and rebates are a different ballgame. Example, a sale you may be limited to 2 but you walk out the store or comeback the next day you can get 2 more. Rebates go through a clearing house that keeps track of your address and won’t let you get more than one sent to you but you can have them sent to your family or friend’s address in your name if you want more than one deal.

For anyone who has already gotten a backpack, this deal is a great way to get a backpack and filled it with supplies for the needy. Locally, we have project backpack as do many other areas. Now more than ever they are needed.

so is the rebate in the form of a instant gift card or is it mailed to you later after you file for the rebate?? just wondering this is the first time doing this deal!

I was wondering if you can buy more Staples copy paper that they’re advertising this week for 1 cent again if you already did that during the deal two weeks ago. Is it a new rebate period or does it last for a month like Rite Aid’s? I’m new to rebates at Staples so I wanted to ask before I get it wrong. Thanks.

@Eleaves–that is essentially the same question that I had! I looked at the rebate details and the FAQ and I never did find a real concrete answer so I have an e-mail in to Staples customer service. When I get an answer, I will reply!

The rebate for the last copy paper was 7/11 – 7/14( Looked at my rebate receipt). So I believe this copy paper is under a new rebate.

The post clearly says “free after easy rebate,” meaning that what you get back makes up for what you spent. If you don’t like the terms of the deal, don’t do it – go pay full price somewhere else and get nothing back. Nobody is dragging you to Staples with a gun to your head.

Getting a Staples gift card is no different than earning ExtraCare bucks at CVS, or UP Rewards at Rite Aid! All of the retailers want you to come back and spend the money in their store. I can always use it on school supplies or printer ink or paper, so it is a good deal to me. And I wouldnt consider a Jansport backpack crappy…not for my elementary aged kids anyway!

OK, well it’s not technically free. I put down $20+ for a backpack and get a Staples Giftcard back.
I can’t take that staples gift card and buy Filet Mignon or fill up my tank at the Exxon. That is what I thought..

Are any of you familiar with this ad enough to know if it includes “laptop backpacks” as well as other “backpacks”? I see their web site has separate categories for these 2 types. Thanks!

It did last year. I got a $120 laptop backpack, and got my $120 rebate. I’m not sure how they can do this, but I love Staples!
