Kalahari Resorts: Fantastic Family Getaway

August 23, 2011 by Tara Kuczykowski 8 Comments

This post brought to you by Kalahari® Resorts. All opinions are 100% mine.

I can hardly believe that my kids will be going back to school this week. This summer has just flown by, and while it’s been a blast, I have to admit that I’m looking forward to having a little more structure to our days. For the first time ever, I’ll have 2.5 hours of uninterrupted work time three days a week because we made the decision to enroll our youngest in preschool!

We said goodbye to summer this weekend at Kalahari Resorts in Sandusky, Ohio, and the whole family was looking forward to one last weekend of fun. This was be our first visit to this indoor/outdoor water park, and we couldn’t wait to take advantage of all of that Kalahari has to offer:

  • Indoor water park filled with slides for the big kids (including the Zimbabwe Zipper which reaches speeds of 40 mph), spray structures for the little kids, a lazy river, wave pool, and much more.
  • Indoor arcade, including mini-bowling, glow golf, and a tree fort for the younger kids.
  • Outdoor water park with a pool and zero depth area for the younger kids.
  • Safari Outdoor Adventure Park, which includes a three-level ropes course, 400 foot long Zip Line, 32 foot high Adventure Climbing Wall, and the Safari Adventures Animal Park.
  • Multiple restaurants and snack bars.
  • African-themed guest rooms and motif throughout the resort.

Kalahari Resorts offers amazing deals year round, and guests always enjoy FREE admission to the water park included with their stay. Click on the Specials & Packages tab for the current offers.

Check back later this week to hear more about our fun family weekend. Plus I’ll have an opportunity for one of  you to win a trip to Kalahari too!

I can’t imagine how fun Kalahari is now that the outdoor park is open. We took our son and his friend probably 6 or 7 years ago and they had a blast just inside…now if i had grandkids to take!!! LOL This is definitely a fun filled get away destination!!!

WE took our first trip to Kalahari the last weekend in June and we can’t wait to go back. I have heard going in the winter is just as much fun. We will be saving and planning another trip !

We’ve taken groups of 100+ teenagers from our church youth group every winter for several years now… last year a group of leaders ended up going back as an all-adult group so they could just relax and enjoy it, too! It definitely is a really fun place anytime of year!

We took a weekend trip there the second week in July to the resort in Ohio. All can say is that we had a blast!!. I strongly encourage some rest time before the trip… there is something for everyone; swimming, wave pool, water slides then we cooked dinner then went to the arcade later the night. The next day we had an outdoor adventure pass, rock climb and zip line and was able to ride a pony and a camel, feed the animals! FYI… for the outdoor adventure you must wear closed toe shoes.. I had on flip flops and had to run back to the room and change into my running shoes They do have croc like shoes that you can check out for free but its better to wear you own. Have a great time!

I am a self-described “pro” at these Ohio waterparks. I think I’ve been there at least 8 times in the last 5 years. I’ve been to the Kalahari twice and honestly, I am not a big fan of this place. It’s huge with lots of water rides, but the air is always very cold in the winter……and who wants to walk around shivering. Castaway Bay (another water park about 8 miles away smack dab in front of Cedar Point) is quite a bit smaller but ALWAYS very warm. It’s also not as crowded and usually cheaper. I also don’t like the Kalahari’s “Las Vegas” type atmosphere with all of it’s fattening candy and baked goods shops and the massive arcade room you have to walk through to get to the water park. The whole place is set up to make you and your money part ways quickly by enticing your kids with never-ending games and sweets! Both times I visited Kalahari ($99/night special), I left after the first night and went to Castaway Bay. And both times, Castaway Bay agreed to match my $99/night rate. They bend over backwards for your business.
Take my advice…….go to Castaway Bay!

For our in-laws 50th wedding anniversary, we stayed at the Kalahari resort in Wiscousin in 2004. It is the best vacation spot ever. We had the best time, with everything right in one place to enjoy. The rooms were nice, and we had several rooms. We had five families in adjoining rooms. The waterpark so many things to do. I would love to go to Ohio with just my family. thanks

Hey there — nice to meet you!

I'm Tara: mom of 5 teens/tweens and one 80-lb. Weimaraner, who fancies herself a lap dog. Born and raised in Ohio (GO BUCKS!!!), my fave things include cooking + baking, my JEEP Rubicon, the 4x4 beaches at OBX, and checking out the local craft beer scene...

As you can imagine, all of this puts a good dent in my monthly budget. So I've learned how to save on the things I NEED, so I can spend on the things I WANT.
