CVS Gives Rain Checks!!!

July 3, 2008 by Tara Kuczykowski 52 Comments

Yeah, really, they do!!! Did you know this??? Color me clueless, but I sure didn’t! I cannot even begin to convey my excitement over this, so let me scream it again. CVS gives RAIN CHECKS!!! Yes, they even give them on items that generate ECBs!

I discovered this little tidbit the other night when I was chatting with a manager at one of the stores I like to shop. I mentioned that I had only been able to purchase one bottle of the Huggies wash all month because every time I shopped they were completely out of stock. Imagine my surprise when she said very matter of factly, “Oh, well, I can give you a rain check for that. We can’t generate the ExtraBucks for them once their promotional period is over, but we’ll just fill in the price for how much the item would cost after your received them.”

I’m telling you, you could have knocked me over with a feather at that moment. She graciously wrote me out a slip for four of the washes at $1.49 each, and I was able to redeem it for three of them this afternoon AND still use the coupons that I had planned to use previously! I was able to get a new slip for the one that I was still unable to purchase.

This works on the free after ECBs items as well. Both of my stores have been out of the Physician’s Formula mascara all week. I simply asked the assistant manager that was ringing me out if I could please get a rain check for the item. She said, “Sure, no problem,” and filled it right out. I can just take it in and redeem it for a free mascara when they receive more stock.

It’s just mind boggling to think about all the deals I’ve missed out on because I just figured that I was out of luck if they were out of stock. Out of luck no more!

I did not know this either! Of course, I am a relatively new CVS shopper, so there’s a lot I’m still learning. Thanks for all your helpful info!

Yeah, isn’t it great! Your manager sounds cooler than mine! Our manager will give us a rain check and puts the ECB amount on a CVS card. I’d rather have it FREE! But, since I don’t spend a whole lot there, I can’t be too picky :-)

    You’re welcome, Gina!

That’s a good point, Andrea. I haven’t actually redeemed a free after ECBs rain check yet, so I’ll be sure to update when I do. But they did deduct the amount of the ECBs on the Huggies wash instead of putting it on a money card.

Hi, Cathy! I shop the Gender Road store in Canal Winchester and the Hill Road store in Pickerington. Where are you at in the Columbus area?

I’m in the Bexley area. We have several great stores near me. I have never asked for a rain check though. Thankfully, not many people play the game around here . . .I usually have plenty of stock!

I am new to the drugstore thing but i was reading on CVS website and it said ECB’s will print out every 3 months. Can I go sign up for ECB’s and begin receiving them that day?

Jennifer, that’s for the quarterly ECBs. The weekly and monthly ECB offerings will print out immediately when you purchase the required items.

You are so right, Randy. I’m always pleasantly surprised by the number of male readers I have that coupon. Good for you! Now I need to work on my husband a little more . . .

There are new rainchecks now. They can enter in a code to manually print Extra Bucks after the sale. So, there is a spot on the raincheck for the ECB code so that they can charge you the sale price when you turn in the raincheck and then print you your ECB coupon.

Love the rain checks! Both stores in my area were out of the tape and pencils/sharpeners that are free after ECBs this week. I got a raincheck for the tape at the first store and a raincheck for the pencils/sharpeners at the second store. The rainchecks were two different versions of the same form… it looks like one form was created back in 2007 and another was created in 01/2009. Both have spots to write in the current price and the sale price, but only the 01/2009 form has a spot for the ECB code that Lisa is referring to. The store with the older form simply wrote “FREE after ECBs” under the sale price, so I’m curious to see if that store will simply give me the items for free, or if they will have me pay the $1.49 for the tape first and then either load a CVS gift card or manually print out the ECBs. Will post again when I redeem them!
