Join me every day this week for Back-to-School Giveaways. I’ll be posting 5-day giveaways at 8 a.m., 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. ET to give you plenty of chances to win!
As I’ve mentioned before, KIND Snacks have quickly become one of my favorite healthy snacks, and they’re especially great when I’m looking for a nutritious snack while I’m on the go. The makers of KIND believe that food should never be processed to the point that you can no longer tell what it is, and all of their bars are made from wholesome all-natural ingredients you can see and pronounce. With whole nuts and fruit held together with honey through a natural process that keeps them fresh, KIND snacks are packed full of flavor and have just the right amount of crunch!
KIND is a sponsor of the annual Great Kindness Challenge on August 14.
The Great Kindness Challenge is one day devoted to performing as many acts of kindness as possible. This year’s goal is to have over one million children participate with the hope that this day will inspire a lifelong commitment to service and kindness.
From sunup to sundown, children around the world will accomplish simple, kind deeds using The Great Kindness Challenge Checklist from Kids for Peace. Visit The Great Kindness Challenge for more information and to sign up to participate!

My husband is a pastor so we meet quite a few homeless men and women who come through our church. Recently, we invited a homeless woman over for dinner for homemade chicken tortilla soup.

My son and I were in one of the Super-WalMarts, chatting while we were looking up and down the aisles for something. A woman in a wheelchair who had some kind of a speech impediment, asked us where she could find insulated grocery bags. Now… we were on the opposite end of the store from the food, but I figured she would have trouble getting help since all the workers are kids and would probably have trouble understanding her. So we walked across the wwwhhhhoooooolllllllleeeee store with her and went over to the freezer section. I couldn’t find the bags anywhere, so I asked a few employees until I finally got one who told me that they don’t sell them anymore. So even though I didn’t actually HELP her, she told us how much she appreciated our taking time out of our day to help her. I could see the wheels turning in my son’s head, as he absorbed the fact that it didn’t matter if she got what she wanted – what was more important was that we cared enough about a stranger to try to help.

Our family likes to surprise an unsuspecting family at a restaurant by picking up their check. We take turns letting the boys pick a family that they think should get a free meal.
