I couldn’t find any Scotch tape that would be an ad match at my local WM Superstore. Just FYI that YMMV.

I’ve been told from a CSM that Wal-mart cannot price match and accept a coupon to make an item free. Has anyone else heard this?

I had a cashier tell me that, but when I questioned her, saying I’d never heard that before, she called the manager (who laughed at her!). Manager said, “of course she can do both! How else could she get such good deals?!?”

I too have been told at several Wal-Mart stores that if they price match, they will not accept a manufacturers coupon on top of the price match, whether or not it makes the item free.

They should be accepting both the ad match and the coupon. Otherwise, what is the incentive to ad match? You’d just go to the competitor to buy it, right?

I’d encourage you to contact Walmart corporate relations so they can take action with the stores and ensure that they are properly trained. You can find their contact information here:

Newbie question here — what makes it better to get the Target price at WM instead of just going to Target?

we;ll first target can be outta the product and you wont have to wait to get it and secondly walmart lets u keep your overage to apply to another product, target isnt supposed to though sometimes cashiers do it anyways….

Target has a printable coupon for $0.50/1 Scotch Magic Tape item as well. Their policy says they can’t give cash back but that doesn’t mean they can’t allow the overage to be applied to the total… I may have to check into that and see what happens if I have $1.50 in coupons for a $0.50 item. :)

I was just reading the WM coupon policy, and it says print-at home coupons cannot be duplicated. Does that mean you can only use one? or you can’t run them on a copy machine?

Yes. They frequently have printed elements that can’t be reproduced and will make it obvious if you try. Some coupons can be printed more than once, however there is a limit to how many times they can be printed by an individual computer.

Just tried at Walmart and the CSM refused to match the price because the Target ad did not specify what size tape the sale applied to. I pointed out that the 700″ for the price of 650″ seems like a bonus, but that argument didn’t fly.

I had the same problem as everyone else with the price match and trying to use the coup. The cashier was ok with the price match but when I handed her the coupon she yelled at me and told me that I only paid $.50 for the tape and that she was not going to take $1.00 off(like I was personally taking the money out of her pocket lol). So I told her to get her manager and he said that it was perfectly ok. She sure did hate that she was wrong lol

It may not be taking money out of her pocket per say-but definitely cutting into bonuses for the quarter.

If it cuts into your bonuses then thats something the workers need to take up with the corporate office instead of taking it out on the customer. They made the rules that we try to keep up with and follow. We coupon because we need the money too.

I am a cashier at a Walmart supercenter. We are told by the store manager and corporate that our policy is to either price match or use the coupon-we cannot do both. They are getting pickier as to what they do since people take advantage of the price matching and free items which cut into their big bonuses for the year. And we used to not limit quantities like other stores and now we do. Sorry but if we don’t follow policy we will be terminated and can’t be without a job today.

It’s my understanding that this only applies to competitor coupons. Otherwise why would you bother price matching at Walmart? You’d still get the better deal at Target.

That’s because walmart wants to pocket the overage from the manufacturer. The manufacture is going to pay walmart $1 for every coupon anyways. Because that’s what the coupon says. Always trying to make a buck!

I just spoke with the Walmart ad match/coupon policy team, and you definitely should be allowed to use a manufacturer’s coupon when ad matching. If anyone who’s had an issue would like to provide me with your store number (either by commenting here or privately via my comment form), I will pass it along so they can handle it directly. Thanks!

I tried the tape deal at WM tonight, and the cashier price matched just fine. When she saw the coupons for my 15 rolls of tape, she rolled her eyes and said that she can’t let me walk out of the store with free tape. If you know who I could call (or what to tell them to make them understand) I’d greatly appreciate it!)

      Hi,

I was also told by the cashier and CSM at my local WM that I could not do both which I think is totally wrong…I agree to why would I even go there for a price match if that is the policy?? I have had it up to here with this WM for many years now…I think they’ll be losing one of there best customers very very soon! My store number is #1962 and the store manager is Harold Kushnak. It would be great if we could get this all straightened out with WM stores but i am not going to hold my breath…I have been complaining for years about the lack of customer service they have….When they arte done ringing your order they just take your money and leave your items in the sacks on the round about at the end of the lane and start ringing the next customer. I have back and neck problems and could certainly use the extra step of customer service for them to put my bags in the cart. When I talk to the managers about this they tell me that the cashier is supposed to be putting the bags in the cart but if I ask the cashier they will tell me that they have been told by the managers that they don’t have to do it if they don’t want to. If I wanted to do this all myself I would just shop aty Aldi or Save A Lot full time. WM is so inconsistent with their policies.

Again the store number is #1962 and the store manager is Harold Kushnak in Kokomo, Indiana.

Thank you and happy savings to you :)

i tried to use this 3m coupon at target the other day when the tape was 1.00 so no adjusting down or anything had to happen and they told me that not only was the coupon not scanning but when they tried to enter it manually it was not accepting the coupon, like it is an invalid coupon, any else had this problem?

So, the 50cent price at Wal-mart is not a scannable price? You have to show them an ad from Target?

I just tried to do this at the Wal-Mart at Easton. Caused *all kinds* of problems-stood at the register for 45 minutes trying to get them to do it. Last person I spoke to was the most arrogant and rude individual I’ve ever encountered. Told me I had to call the “Asset Protection” manager tomorrow before I would be allowed to do anything. Now if that don’t sound like a load of who-ey, it don’t know what does. I smiled kindly, told the cashier it wasn’t personal, and left without buying any of the stuff in my cart.

At Taregt, I used the $1.00 Scotch pdf coupon. I made $.50 on each item which they credited to the cart. In the school supply area, there is a huge cardboard bin filled with the tape – I could have bought 200.

I wish this was the case at our Target. I went on Sunday so that I could get some tape before everyone loaded up on it and it was already gone. If people dont start using caution with their quantities @ Target then ther will start limiting them like alot of other stores. :(

I had the same issue last night at a Walmart by me. 2 cashiers came over and told me I could either choose to use the ad-match or use my coupon. I pulled out the coupon policy, and she said that’s our coupon policy, not our ad-match policy. Guess I need to start bringing that with me to the store also.
That doesn’t make any sense because you don’t have to choose at Target where the price is at 0.50!~
I spent 2 hours shopping and then walked out with nothing but a frown. Rude cashiers all over.
    The store number is #3500.
Thanks so much for your help Tara.

I have 2 friends that were shopping at WalMart today and had issues with them accepting PDF MQ’s… they were the Nexcare Bandaid, Scotch Tape and the Idahoan Potatoes, These are 2 different ladies in 2 different states clean across the country. One in PA and the other in TN. Do you have a clue as to what may be happening? It seems …to me that cashiers are being trained improperly and possibly by corporate. My one friend was told that they are offering a reward to anyone that can tell them who is creating the Idahoan Potato PDF and she tried showing them the Idahoan Website where she got it and they didn’t want to hear it, just told her that she needed to leave or they would have her arrested. They told my niece in TN that the printables without writing around them, (PDF) were all fraudulent. Any info on that would be wonderful. This is the second time that I have heard WalMart employees threatening customers with being arrested over a coupon that they believe is fraudulent and is not.
