Leave it to the pros to put aluminum which causes cancer and is linked to Alzheimer’s. Leave it to the pros to poison you with stuff that doesn’t need to be used. Good job! There is an all natural deodorant that is just a salt crystal you wet and put under your arms. Keeps smells away and doesn’t poison your body.

I started making my own deoderant the beginning of January because I was tired of the chemicals my body was taking in. I make a recipe similar to this one, but with a 3:1 ratio of corn starch to baking soda as I found I was sensitive to the baking soda. It took about a week and a half for my body to detox and get used to the lack of chemicals initially, and about 1 1/2 months for it to entirely get used to a natural deoderant. This is not exactly anti-perspirent and you will have sweat, but this is natural and benifical for the body. I do not know if this is a cooincidence or not, but I have also noticed I remember things better as time goes by. I will continue to use this the rest of my life as far as I am concerned. Even if store deoderant is free, I do not want the chemicals in my body.
I have also taken to making my own body cream that I and my friends enjoy as it is natural and fragrance free. I have also started to offer it on my website

I just discovered the salt crystal deodorant contains aluminum as well! So scratch that. But I have heard rave reviews on homemade coconut deodorant, and the above commenter Karen mentioned a mix for a homemade one as well. It’s better to try those out than to put aluminum into your body. Too much aluminum in the brain is linked to Alzheimer’s and also a likely cause for cancer – why even risk it?

I know that coconut oil goes from solid to liquid when warmed. Does this kind of deod. leave you oily under the arms when your body heat makes it liquid?

Karen, people are much more likely to die as a result of the garbage they put in their mouths than from their use of store-bought antiperspirant.

I’m not selling coconut oil personally, but I did link to it on Amazon so that my readers could know which one I used and that it regularly goes on sale for MUCH less than the price at Whole Foods or other grocery stores.

Hello M! Thank you for your comment, but I am not selling the deoderant. :) I just think that is too personal IMHO. And I only offer lotion on my site because I have had requests.
I do agree with you whole-heartedly that it does matter what you put in your body more, and I have made those changes as well. The beauty products are part of a lifestyle change I am in the middle of to help me detox as much as possible from all the chemicals. I do not expect eveyone to agree with my opinions and point of view as this is a personal journey that I have felt led to take.

when i was younger my mom made deodorant with baby power and water lol i love coconut oil i use it in my hair and it makes it very soft but you cannot use to much or it will be very oily, i also use 100 % african shea butter for lotion and it has many other healing properties and anyone can use it i got it on amazon for around 8.00 for a 32 oz and little goes a long way.

I keep a bottle of extra virgin coconut oil in the kitchen for a long time and it doesn’t turn bad. So it makes good sense to use coconut oil as a deodorant ingredient. Now the menfolk in my family have no excuse not to smell good thanks to wise moms like Tara, thanks.

I really must try this. Using an old deodorant container will make it much easier, I had a very similar recipe that just made a ball. of it, a little trickier to use that way I’d say!
