Meijer Shopping Trip: Spent $12.08 Saved $86.29

September 2, 2010 by Tara Kuczykowski 21 Comments

I headed to Meijer this afternoon to take advantage of the Kraft Cheese deal and picked up some other bargains while I was there. I went through the U-scan to get the Kraft Cheese, and it worked perfectly! I didn’t even need a cashier to come over to approve the $5 off coupon.

Here’s what I scored with coupons:

  • 20 Assorted Kraft Chunk Cheese — used (4) $5/5 Kraft Product coupons in 2 transactions, $0.16 ea.
  • 3 loaves Arnold Wheat Bread — used (3) $1 off coupons, $0.89 ea.
  • 4 Ball Park Franks — used (4) $2/1 Ball Park coupons (no longer avail.), $0.50 ea.
  • 4 packets Simply Asia Seasoning — used $0.50/1 Simply Asia coupon, FREE.
  • 2 packages Earthbound Farm Organic Lettuce — used (2) $0.75/1 Earthbound coupons, $1 ea.

Some nice markdowns I found:

  • Meijer Vienna Bread, was$1.89, now $1.13
  • Rostello Roasted Chicken Breast, was $2.99, paid$2.39
  • Meijer Northern Beans, was $2.69, now $1.34
  • Meijer Garden Frenzy (squash, peas, carrots, broccoli, etc. medley), was $5.20, now $3.12

Additional produce:

  • Bananas, $1.24
  • Sweet Potatoes (so I can make more Season-All Spicy Sweet Potato Fries), $2.99

All together I spent $12.08 plus tax after coupons and Catalinas, a savings of $86.29! It’s pretty amazing to think that a non-coupon user might walk into the same store and pay $98.37 for those very same items.

Check out the Meijer deals for this week for more savings!

    Can you freeze cheese?

You can freeze shredded cheese. I do it all the time. Blocks of cheese can get crumbly when you thaw them out, but if you don’t mind that, they can also be frozen.

Yes you can freeze cheese. Block cheese freezes best.

@Vanessa You can freeze cheese. Shredded cheese freezes much better than chunk (I think). I have also frozen Kraft singles and it comes out pretty well.

This was a great shopping trip! You can freeze cheese (like on frozen lasagna), but if you look at the expiration dates…a lot of times cheese keeps for a LONG time.

So I was wondering when you did the cheese did you get the $5 catalina to print? I went tonight and got the cheese and spent the $15 on Kraft before the coupons of course but the catalina didnt print and they said I couldnt get it!

It did print automatically, Natasha. I’d just show them the offer in the ad — it clearly states that you should receive it when you buy $15 or more.

Yep, I plan on freezing most of the cheese for future use. I was a little disappointed that they were out of mozzarella blocks, but I may pull out my old laptop to print a couple more coupons and try again this weekend.

Ok just seeing what you thought because i went to customer service and they said since i used a coupon i couldnt get the catalina. I said that is not how it normally works. I guess i will have to call or go back in there.

No the Kraft deal only includes the blocks, if you buy the shredded the CAT will not print!

Jenna’s right — the coupon is valid on the shredded cheese, but the Catalina offer is not.

I’m curious if this same idea will work for the Kraft dressing. The item is 3/$5 with the $5 catalina (not to be confused with the type of dressing, haha) and there was a manufacturer’s coupon for $.55 which would be doubled. So if my thinking is correct, I could get 9 bottles of dressing for $.10 total. ??? Maybe I’ll see if I can track down 9 of the coupons and give it a try.

I don’t think it will work, Emmy, because Meijer’s policy is to only double the first two like coupons. Any further like coupons in a single transaction are redeemed at face value. :(

    Two questions:

What Meijer are you going to that doubles coupons? Mine said they are no longer doubling.

Where can I find those Earthbound Farm coupons?

Marcy, I live in the Columbus, OH area, and just about all of the stores around here double up to $0.99. I know that not all Meijers double coupons though. :(

The Earthbound Farm coupons were part of a recipe booklet that I received as part of a large package of organic coupons. It looks like something to company might send out to registered users, so I’d recommend registering on their site and/or contacting them to see if they have coupons to mail out.
