will walmart take a coupon for more than the aount of the item? i have had cashiers tell me i can’t use the coupon b/c the amount is larger than the price of the item?

My husband loves this toothpaste and I found it at Rite Aid for 75% off ( reg 3.99); also free after coupon! According to the RA coupon polcy, you cannot use coupons on clearance items, but my store will accept them as they are reimbursed, anyway.

I just bought these tonight at Target for $.97. (These are the trial size at this price.) Target took mine coupons without batting an eye. The computer beeped because the coupon was more than the price of the item, but she just hit a key and pushed it on through. I got the overage.
