fyi…Keep an eye on the register for the gift card. I did this deal yesterday, but purchased some sunscreen with the chapstick. It didn’t trigger the gift card…but the cashier did a manual override when I brought it to his attention.

How does this work… do they let you apply the gift card right then and there? Or is it to be uused at another time?

I am always confussed by gift cards and EBC’s given to you at the register..HELP!

No, you cannot use the gift card on the transaction that you earn it through. You can however, do an transaction immediately after and use it on that. The gift card is not “activated” until the transaction you earn it through is totally complete. This is the same for ECBs at CVS and RR at Walgreens.

At target it just depends on the cashier. I had one just scan it at the end of the purchase so it took off the $5 right there…others give me the card to use for my next purchase.
Walgreens it prints out after you pay with your receipt. Also, you can not use the RR for the item you just purchased or it will cancel out the next RR you are supposed to get for that product…have to use it on your next purchase for something different.

I did this deal yesterday, but our target prices were much higher. I did catch onto the lip balm. The cashier had a hard time because he tried to ring in two lip balms and it didn’t trigger the card. However, when they were purchased with the sunscreen, it worked. Unfortunately, our prices were higher. :(

Just got back from Target & buying 2 Banana Boat sunscreens. They were both 6oz sprays — one was the Kids version & one was the adult Sport version. Both were $8.99. The Sport version came with a small face sunscreen freebie attached to it. When I got to the register, the 2 purchases didn’t qualify for the gift card. I asked why since they were both Banana Boat sunscreens, both the same size & both located on shelves where it displays the $5 GC offer. The cashier said that it just didn’t — the register would have notified her to give a GC if it did. She said it was probably because of the “freebie” sample sunscreen attached to the sport one.

I’m bummed & slightly irritated. I’m going to take my receipt to a different Target and see if they can do anything for me.

Anyone have this happen to them?

The bonus packs don’t work for the gift card. There must be a different UPC code on those and the GC isn’t triggered so you have to buy the regular sizes if you want the $5 GC.

Thanks for letting me know though! (and too bad the silly thing — and 4 of its friends — was located on the spot on the shelf right where the $5 GC was. Guess I’ll be returning the 2 I have and buying 2 new ones to get the $5 GC. I bought them specifically for that — was planning on using my $1 off Aveeno coupon otherwise.

If it was stocked in front of the signage that read it was part of the deal then ask to speak with the manager on duty. Usually the cashier doesn’t know what to do and is afraid to do an overide. But the manager or cashier supervisor should take care of you. If not ask for the district manager’s office number. Having worked in management with Target for many years a store never wants it to go that far and if it does the DM will tell them to take care of the guest/customer.

Can you stack the q from Real Simple and from SS 5/22?

Did anyone else try to get this deal by using the Target printable coupon for Banana Boat kids? I tried to buy 2 Sprays (one with free sample attached) and used 2 Target $1/1 and 2 $1/1 from SS but it didn’t prompt for the GC :(

Gonna go return them today since I got the Aveeno ones at CVS :-)
