Black Friday Deals: Walmart

Black Friday kicks off the holiday shopping season, and if you shop carefully, you can get great deals, but be sure to read these Black Friday tips before you go to be sure you don’t end up spending more than you intend!
Walmart is kicking off the holiday shopping season with a new Black Friday event this year! Head to your local store starting at midnight for the toys, home goods, and apparel deals during a special Open House. Select stores will also feature special sampling opportunities, including bakery goods, 5 Hour Energy Shots, Oreo cookies, and more.
At 5:00 a.m. all of the great electronics deals will go live! Plan your course of action with the store maps that will give you the exact location of the electronics deals in your store so you know just where to camp out. These should be available online shortly.

Do you know what category the movies would fall under? I really want to go for that deal but if they are put out at 5 w/ the electronics, I may not go!!

Movies are starting at 12:01 am ONLY the really big stuff…tv, cameras, and the like are at 5. You get a bracelet (at least in my store) and only 1 per person.

i like how they are doing some at midnight this year, get all those smaller items out of the way before people go crazy over the bigger ones.

There are some great deals, but I too hope everybody is not rude, or that will be the last time I shop on the day after Thanksgiving. Walmart cannot control people’s attitudes.

@Leslie – If you check out the ad the pages are color coded. The green pages start at 5 am the red pages start at midnight. The movies and a lot of video games go at midnight!

I love the idea of splitting up the sale. I don’t really go for the electronics so this is really Great for me! I can hit walmart then hit the other stores as they open and hopefully avoid long lines outside in the cold!

Some of the walmarts will not open at 5. I Know in NY the super walmarts will NOT be closing this year and at 12:01 the prices go into effect. Which i dont see as fair because people will get there and load thier carts and check out at 12:01 am just like last year. Had i known that i wouldnt have even gone to walmart because i thought it was 5am as well. I got there at 4.. it was already (well still) open because they never closed. Nothing was left and it was real unfair. Just a warning to those planning on shopping at super walmarts, be sure to ask and find out about your store hours for that day!!

Ours never closes either and they had “guards” around all of the black friday items and would not allow anyone to take any before the “start” time, 5am i think it was. they still had most things wrapped up in the plastic. worked out great.

This is the method I do at Meijer every year becuase 24 hour walmarts would not even allow you to put any items in your cart until 5 am. So I would go to meijer at like 1am and find all the stuff i wanted that was out and then wait in line for the other items. So much better than trying to scramble to get everything at once.

So here’s a question that I’ve been searching for an answer to:

Can I purchase something that will be on sale of Black Friday on Wednesday & then bring it back to the store during the sale time & get a price adjustment? I know usually, you can get an adjustment w/in 14-30 days of purchase, but didn’t know if Black Friday counted in that.

Sneaky, I know…but I just don’t always have the gusto to push past other people just to get the items I want.

      Colette,
I can’t say for this year, their policy may have changed or could change by region, but I’ve been able to do this in years past (however it was done unknowingly) and I didn’t have any issue. However I’ve noticed that many of the black friday ads carry items that seem to be specifically for black friday…. items that are not out on the floor until they prep for BF. Either the toy was a specially packaged version or an electronic being a model or variation that is not sold day to day.

Otherwise to know for certain I would call your local WM or ask the manager the next time you go in… you don’t have to tell them that you know what’s in the ad etc. but just ask if you happen to buy something that ends up being cheaper on BF can you get an adjustment.
Of course if they say no, just keep your receipt and if you’re able to get one on BF you can return the other with your receipt.

I was wondering this same thing. I am very preggers and do not want to fight the lines so I thought I’d try this option. We purchased the electronics we wanted yesterday that we know will be on sale and are planning to ask for an adjustment. We contacted several walmarts in the area and 1 mgr said “yes”, but was unsure what time cust serv would be open to do the adjustment. We would def need it done within the timeframe of the doorbusters so that’s our only glitch.

So for 24hr SUPER WALMARTS the BF Promos start at Midnight??

Also, if you buy Weds & return 4 Price Adjustment Fri, you will not get bonus gift cards that come with some items that are exclusive to BF!!??

For Instance, there is a $50 Gift Card if you buy the IPOD at 5AM when it goes on sale for 225. But if you buy a week in advance & return, you won’t get the gift card!!

    Right?

Hope this isn’t a silly question, but can we get those 5am prices online that day? For example, I’d like to get the Nintendo DS Lite for $89. But you couldn’t pay me $500 to go to Walmart on Black Friday to get one! Well, maybe $500, but not a penny less!

Seriously, I’d love to be able to shop Walmart on line that morning. Anyone know if the prices will be the same as the store?

If you are not wanting electronics but something else from the list you may want to go later. I went to walmart at 8AM after kohls and a few other stores and it was like a ghost town compared to the 5AM shoppers. I was able to pick up pjs, toys and a few misc. items that I liked in ad without having to fight the crowd. It was much better than going at 5AM as I did in the years past.

    Funny story:
One year I actually seen a guy climb the aisle’s shelving to get into the electronics department for a stereo. It was so ridiculous I had to laugh. I was in line to get into the electronics department and said if he was that desperate he could have the stereo. I didn’t need it that bad.

I called my local Walmart for their price adjustment policy — i.e. purchase an item prior to the sale, and then get refunded the difference on black friday. The manager told me it is a no, that the customer service desk will not even be open. His last statement is a little strange though, the store is a 24 hour location…so if you happen to need to return something that day that is not related to the holiday, you cannot? Anyways, a little dissappointed since it seems like some Walmarts allow it and others do not.

Hi. I just checked out Walmart.com and tried to find a link for the printable map of my local store so I can “plan my strategy” for Black Friday. However, I can’t find it. Does anyone know how to access the map or is it just not available yet? This will be a great help.

Any suggestions would be beyond greatly appreciated. Should I eat dinner at 2 on T-bird day and then hole up in Wal-Mart for the 5 a.m. deals? Thanks HUGELY I in advance.
