Here’s a heartwarming story about a group of high school students that will inspire you to do some good – this holiday season and beyond!
16 Years Ago, Mikayla was born with an extra chromosome. As a parent, you want everything for your child, and I knew nothing about “Down Syndrome”. I wondered if she would be able to speak, or care for herself. I had no clue what a fantastic experience and the adventure I was about the go on. Mikayla has taught me so much in these 16 years. She is beautiful inside and out and her smile lights up a room. Everyone she meets is her best friend forever. I wish I was more like her. More importantly, I have learned she can do anything any other kid can do. But sometimes people in the world don’t know any more about Down Syndrome than I did, so I was fearful about what her high school years would bring. Recently, some very special young people taught me my fears were not necessary again when they took some special needs kids to a Winter Informal. Mikayla’s date was Spencer Erickson and she was treated like a princess. I’m so grateful for people in the world that will do good, and treat Mikayla like she is special, not just that she has special needs.
