Free Magazine Subscriptions Roundup

July 14, 2008 by Tara Kuczykowski 8 Comments

I believe I mentioned this when I was blogging back at Life with Five, but for my newer readers, here’s the scoop on free magazine subscriptions. I haven’t actually paid for a magazine subscription in years. It’s a little known fact that magazines often offer free subscriptions to boost their readership numbers to make them more attractive to advertisers. Magazines make most of their money off of the advertisements, not the subscriptions, so the more readers they can boast, the more valuable that makes them in the eyes of potential advertisers.

I’ll be posting more free magazines opportunities as I come across them, but you usually must act fast to get them, as they don’t last long. Also, even if you already subscribe to a magazine, go ahead and sign up for the free subscriptions. They will just tack the free subscription on to the end of your current subscription!

Currently there are several new free magazine subscriptions available from ValueMags.com. There are absolutely no strings attached!

Want to Make a Few Extra Bucks?

June 15, 2008 by Tara Kuczykowski 18 Comments

No, I’m not talking CVS ExtraBucks here. We’re talking about actual cash. If you’re interested, you should look into being a mail tracking agent. No, you won’t get rich doing it, but it’s a little extra pocket money, and you’ll probably get some great free magazine subscriptions along with other interesting mail, too.

Basically what happens is you receive test pieces of mail sent to you. You’ll be able to distinguish it from your actual mail by the names that are used on it. The company will provide you with a website where you will key in details about the mail, and then you will be asked to store it for a short period of time in case the company needs additional details. Occasionally you may be asked to return a piece of mail back to the company, and you will be reimbursed for this. They only need a handful of people in each zip code, so it may take some time to hear from them.

I know of two companies that do this:

  • U.S. Monitor
  • The Hauser Group

I don’t have any experience with U.S. Monitor, but I’ve been doing this for Hauser for about five years now. They pay 25 cents per entry, and it takes 30 seconds at the most to key in a piece of mail. I get approximately $30 a quarter, but I also get some really great high-priced magazine subscriptions, like Time, People, Entertainment Weekly, and Sports Illustrated. It started out pretty slowly, but as you prove your reliability, they start to send more mail. I’ve actually had a fairly significant increase since my last check, so I’m anxious to see how much my earnings have increased.

Please let me know if you have any questions, and I’ll do my best to answer them!

Tons of Free Magazines at AdPerk

June 15, 2008 by Tara Kuczykowski 4 Comments

Have you heard about AdPerk? They have a great system for earning free subscriptions to magazines. You simply select the magazine that you are interested in, watch a few advertising videos, and you earn credits toward a subscription. You do have to watch the video through to the end, because you need to enter a code to receive credit for it, but it only takes around 15-20 minutes to earn some great free subscriptions.

Right now they have available: Ode, Popular Science, Good Housekeeping (one of my favs because of the coupon insert), Skiing, and Field & Stream. Also, if you’re in the Los Angeles area they’re currently offering a free pass to the Dwell on Design exhibition. I’m totally jealous, because I’d love to go to this.

I recommend adding this site to your favorites and checking back frequently, because they have a ton of subscriptions that will be available soon, including Alternative Medicine, Cosmopolitan, CosmoGirl, Country Living, Dwell, Esquire, Golf, Marie Claire, and Smart Money!

Hey there — nice to meet you!

I'm Tara: mom of 5 teens/tweens and one 80-lb. Weimaraner, who fancies herself a lap dog. Born and raised in Ohio (GO BUCKS!!!), my fave things include cooking + baking, my JEEP Rubicon, the 4x4 beaches at OBX, and checking out the local craft beer scene...

As you can imagine, all of this puts a good dent in my monthly budget. So I've learned how to save on the things I NEED, so I can spend on the things I WANT. Read more.
