Win-It Wednesday: TerraCycle Back-To-School Prize Pack!

by Tara Kuczykowski on August 18, 2010 · 496 comments

Join me every week for Win-It Wednesday. I’ll be posting 24-hour giveaways at 8 a.m., 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. ET to give you plenty of chances to win!

Every year BILLIONS of drink pouches, yogurt containers, candy wrappers and more end up in dumpsters and landfills across America. TerraCycle's mission is to recycle these items into affordable, eco-friendly products. They're making "upcycling" trendy with their adorable backpacks, binders, and lunch boxes!

Want to get paid for your trash? Join one of their FREE Brigades and TerraCycle will pay you per piece for sending them your non-recyclable waste materials.

One lucky Deal Seeking Mom reader will win a TerraCycle Prize Pack that includes the following:

  • Capri Sun lunch box
  • Billboard laptop case
  • Honest Kids 3 ring binder
  • Paper pens
  • (2) Capri Sun pencil cases
  • Capri Sun small tote
  • Doritos backpack
  • Circuit board coasters
  • Circuit board picture frame

To enter, tell me how your family gets environmentally friendly. Do you recycle as much as possible? Have you given up paper towels and instead opted for good old-fashioned cloth?

I try my best to keep my windows open for fresh air which saves on AC bills & I love hanging my clothes out to dry on the line. I'm a seamstress so I try to save all my fabric scraps & use them to make old clothes for cleaning or to dry on & not use paper hand towels.
wonderful wednesday giveaway thanks :-)

We recycle curbside and some things get repurposed in our house or garden. We use cloth shopping bags and drive fuel efficient cars

We use cloth napkins, compost, recycle what we can, and bring our own bags to the store.

My family recycles when we can but my latest project is to remember to bring my own bags for groceries and if i use plastic to return them on my next trip. I put them inside what my children call "save the world bags" so that I don't forget them

We recycle everything we possibly can and reuse before recycling.

My family always recycles. We have a paper recycling bin in our kitchen, with little stickers to tell paper from trash. We also recycle our cans and bottles. Usually we end up going to parties and taking home the bottles to recycle that other people were going to throw away! Also, we try to recycle our old phones and electronics. A few times I have done the Sight Night charity where you collect old eye-glasses to give to people in need. My family is trying to learn to turn off the lights more often and cut shower times as well.

I use a ceiling fan rather than the air conditioner, always recycle, buy as many eco-friendly products as I can, and in cool weather I wear sweaters or sweatshirts indoors instead of turning on the heater.

Recycle, use re-usable containers, etc.

Take whatever possible to recycling bins, save large items for recycling days at local grocer, have a small vege garden, donate old clothes and toys to local charity foundations, and do whatever else we can to keep our trash out of the landfills.

We recycle as much as possible, washing out even our soup cans that can be recycled. I also try to reuse paper towels that I've only gotten wet and we regularly give stuff to good will and buy stuff from there so that things that we think are trash can be someone else's treasure and their's can be our treasure.

I recycle by giving away all of my freebies that I pick up at the store and telling my family members to recycle them.

We started recycling our plastic bags and trying to remember our reusable bags when we shop, and we recycle paper. We don't buy bottled water very often, but use reusable containers for our drinking water.

We may not be the worlds best recyclers but we do contribute. We recycle our newspapers, plastic food containers (butter, sour cream, etc) are washed and reused for storing foods instead of using zip bags, paper towels that are just for hand drying are allowed to dry and reuse for cleaning mirrors or checking oil etc, soda cans are saved and recycled to metal salvage and even earns a few dollars.

45 Cindy August 18, 2010 at 6:47 pm

Most of our recycling is done curbside. We are also trying to drink more filtered water than bottled water and bring reusable bags whenever we do grocery shopping.

I reuse plastic baggies. I turn them inside out and rinse them and put them on the dishwasher rack to dry. We recycle them many times over.
