Get ready to cozy up with your littles for a night of stories with Matthew Van Fleet’s interactive books! Van Fleet’s innovative books have been introducing children to basic concepts for almost twenty years. His unique formats invite toddlers to touch, press, pull, lift, and even sniff as they explore colors, shapes, numbers, letters, opposites, and more. His books include the #1 New York Times bestsellers Tails and Dog as well as the New York Times bestsellers Cat, Heads, and Alphabet. His books have sold more than three million copies. He lives with his family in New York state.

I always try to tie something from earlier in the day to a book we’ll read that night to get her excited about it. So when we bake cookies I’ll say “what happens when you give a mouse a cookie?.. would you like to read that book tonight?”

We have bedtime stories with our three kids and encourage the older ones to read to the youngest. We go to second hand bookstores to find “treasures” and use some ebooks, as well. My kiddos love to read.

With my daughter it’s all about context – this is what Mommy does…this is what big kids do…this is how you can start. It’s never a negative – it’s more a non-linear path. Nothing is ever done, nothing is only done one way. She takes pride in finding her OWN way to do things – even if it means laying upside down to read a book or flipping her jacket on instead of putting it on one arm at a time. They all have to find their way…
