by Tara Kuczykowski on May 26, 2010 · 592 comments

Join me every week for Win-It Wednesday. I’ll be posting 24-hour giveaways at 8 a.m., 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. ET to give you plenty of chances to win!

iVillage Gift Basket

As part of the relaunch of their Pregnancy & Parenting site, iVillage recently asked its readers to complete a Married Sex survey. Among the key findings were these interesting results:

  • 63% of married women said they would prefer to catch up on an extra hour of sleep, watch a movie or read a book than have sex with their spouse
  • 31% of women reported that they had a better sex life before marriage
  • 14% of women have participated in sexting, while 17% have sent flirty email messages
  • 44% of women said the quality of their sex life has not changed since having kids
  • 23% of women have sex 1 to 3 times a month

iVillage wants to encourage couples with children to enjoy a "Summer of Love", and today they're giving away a Summer of Love gift basket (valued at $100!) to one lucky Deal Seeking Mom reader! The gift basket includes:

oh, to be young again!
after being married almost 20 years and with toddlers that don't nap I can understand the 1-3 times a month scenario. Sometimes we're not much further ahead ourselves. Best advice, finding good reliable babysitters. Also, remembering that at some point the kids will grow up and you'll still be together.

It can be difficult to spice things up with little children but my best advice is to get the kids to bed at a reasonable hour and cuddle up to watch a favorite movie or show - just be in each others company and make the most of the quiet alone time.

6 Saima May 27, 2010 at 5:41 pm

Put the kids to bed early and enjoy the alone time with each other.

Have a date night - my parents take my daughter for the evening so we can go to dinner and just be alone (I know how lucky we are to have my parents close by).

Hello to all. My suggestion for a couple who want to spice things up would be the following:
Throughout the day send flirty text messages and even send some naughty pics. That way an interest is sparked and emotions build up throughout the day.
By then hopefully a baby sister can be secured if not for the whole night then for a few arrivals.
Before your spouse arrives I would have the bedroom/or house set up for romance such as candles, nice scents, rose petals, etc. And to top it off, have a costume on or really nice lingerie. I've been married for 8 years and I'm 31 years old. Just recently I decided to purchase costumes such as the sexy referee (because my husband plays a lot of sports). It sparked things up for us and he could not stop thinking about me (not that he did before). lol. Try new things that are out of your ordinary.

Best tip for couples to spice things up is to keep doing old habits that you did before you had children. Going to WalMart at 2:00 a.m., basically being spontaneous sometimes

30 lynne May 27, 2010 at 8:50 pm

Do thinks that your spouse doesn't expect. Throughout our marriage I'd do things like wait til my husband was in the shower, then I'd strip off & join him. There are many things you can do from phone calls, notes in lunches or left on the seat of his car. My husband never knew what to expect even after 35 years of marriage.

tip for spicing up the love life....

make an effort every day to kiss at least once!

and when your main squeeze walks through the door at the end of the day, nomatter how grumpy and tired you're both feeling, make a hug / kiss / snuggle a part of your greeting... a little physical affection goes a long way toward getting the sparks flying!
