Win-It Wednesday: Dyson Air Multiplier 10-Inch Desk Fan

by Tara Kuczykowski on July 14, 2010 · 1,852 comments

Join me every week for Win-It Wednesday. I’ll be posting 24-hour giveaways at 8 a.m., 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. ET to give you plenty of chances to win!

This is no ordinary fan -- obviously. In fact, did you even realize that it IS a fan?

This is the new Dyson Air Multiplier Table Fan, and while you'll definitely have to pay a good amount for this revolutionary technology, there are some very valid reasons why you should give it some consideration when making your next fan purchase:

  • Notice there are NO blades -- The Dyson Air Multiplier technology does not require blades to generate a steady stream of air. We don't use traditional fans around our children because of the dangerous, fast-spinning blades. When I was younger, I leaned back over one of those old fans with the metal blades. It immediately sucked my long hair up in it, pulling out a good section of it, so while I learned the hard way, we've chosen not to expose our children to them at all.
  • It's super easy to clean -- After a few days of use, traditional fan blades and the fan casing become caked with dust, fibers, and pollen. Getting them clean is a major ordeal, but with the Air Multiplier, you can just easily wipe it clean with a damp cloth. This is especially important for households with allergy sufferers.
  • It uses a dimmer switch -- Traditional fans usually only have 3-4 speed settings, but the Dyson Air Multiplier allows you to set your own perfect amount of air flow by turning a dial.
  • You can easily tilt it with the touch-tilt feature -- Box fans don't tilt at all, and directional fans can become loose over time, making adjusting them difficult. The Dyson Air Multiplier has a touch-tilt feature that makes directing the air flow simple and easy.

I know some of you that use a fan at night to help you sleep are probably wondering if it's silent. Well, it's definitely quieter than a traditional fan, but it still provides a good amount of white noise that will help put you drift off to sleep.

We've been thoroughly happy with our Dyson Air Multiplier Fan. Besides being very futuristic-looking and a great conversation starter, it does a great job cooling off a room in a safe manner that's very important to this mom of five.

I would place this fan in my room because I love it to be really cold when I sleep and I can't do that without freezing the rest of my family out of the house!!

I live in Phoenix and the a/c only works in 1/2 of the house. I'd put it in the nursery to help keep the babies cooler.

I would put it by my bed, since it's easy to clean it would blow dust around my face.

12 Bethaney R July 15, 2010 at 11:15 am

I would use this at the office. It is always so stuff in there, and this would be great to generate some air flow!

13 victoria July 15, 2010 at 11:16 am

My chickens told me to get them a fan, they say it's hot making eggs outside. It seems like an awful nice fan though, I might just have to keep it and tell them they didn't win !!

14 Monique July 15, 2010 at 11:19 am

I would out this fan on my dresser top aimed directly at the bed at night to help cool it down to sleep and in the day on my computer desk for the long hours of studying I do every day to keep my college grades up!

19 Theresa July 15, 2010 at 11:32 am

OMG! My husband is in love w/ these and wants one so bad. So...I'd put it on his desk. He's always "boiling" and I'm always cold:-)

20 Genna B July 15, 2010 at 11:33 am

I would put this fan in my baby's room to keep air circulating and keep baby safe!

21 Ray July 15, 2010 at 11:33 am

I would put it on my night stand. What a great "fan"/air multiplier.

22 Holly July 15, 2010 at 11:34 am

WOW! I've played with them in Target - and they are amazing. I would certainly put one in my bathroom. Texas 99 degree summers + steam from the shower = HOT.

I would put the fan on our dresser for when we sleep. Our bedroom is the hottest room in our house and i CANNOT sleep if im hot. And I would love one of these fans b.c yes, my fan gets full of dust and i hate cleaning it b.c. it drives my sinuses nuts!

I would use this fan in our loft where the kids have all their toys and game table. The heat of the house always rises up there and it's so much warmer than the rest of the house. I love that this fan is actually SAFE for the kiddos!

33 Tanya July 15, 2010 at 11:43 am

I think I would put it in our game room

34 Angie July 15, 2010 at 11:44 am

I would use my dyson air multiplier at Mother's Day Out where I work to keep cool on hot summer days!

35 mary simonton July 15, 2010 at 11:44 am

i would put it on my desk so i can get cooled down and spend more time reading your posts thanks

36 Stacy July 15, 2010 at 11:45 am

I would love to use this in our bedroom - esp with it being so easy to clean.

37 Kelsey July 15, 2010 at 11:45 am

Where I'd put my desk fan...on my desk! lol...I really do need a desk fan though. I have one in my kitchen, but not in my computer room. This fan looks perfect: small and easy to clean (it's a pain trying to keep normal fans clean...they collect dust and dirt so easily and quickly!).

I would place this is my daughter's room. We currently use a small tilting floor fan to help her sleep as her ceiling is too low to place a ceiling fan. We have told her not to put her fingers into the slats and usually when it's on, she's in her crib and can't get it it. But...

I would put it in my kitchen/family room to cool it off in this hot Arizona summer.

46 Rae July 15, 2010 at 11:49 am

I'm a fan on FB and RSS. I would put this fan in my toddler's room. He put his finger in a fan blade one time. Thankfully I caught him before he got hurt BUT he is fascinated. This would be a worry free option to keep his room cool. I hope I win! :)

49 Emmy July 15, 2010 at 11:51 am

Receiving RSS too.
I have learned a great deal from your site. Thank you!

50 Stefanie July 15, 2010 at 11:55 am

I would use that fan all over my house, lol! I want one of those SOOO bad. We were just looking at them last night at a store near us, but they're so expensive! It would be great to win! :)
