Join me every week for Win-It Wednesday. I’ll be posting 24-hour giveaways at 8 a.m., 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. ET to give you plenty of chances to win!

Did you know that September is National College Savings Month? What better time to start saving to give your kids a little extra help in obtaining a college education!
I had the opportunity to learn about the CollegeAdvantage 529 Savings Plan at the Ohio State Fair last month, and I was really inspired to start a savings plan for our kids. I've always been adamant that I'd like for our children to have some responsibility in paying for their education so that they don't take it for granted, but I'd definitely like to be able to assist them in their efforts, so this seems like a fantastic option for us.
Features of the CollegeAdvantage 529 Savings Plan include:
- Earnings are tax-free.
- Deduct contributions from Ohio taxable income ($2,000 annually).
- Use your funds at any college in the country.
- Pay for tuition, room and board, or books.
- Contribute as little as $25 at a time.
- Benefit from professional money management by leading financial firms.
- Save with FDIC-insured bank products.
- Pay no enrollment fee, no maintenance fee and low administrative fees.
- Transfer funds to another child.
- Withdraw funds at any time.
- Change investment options.
Those are some pretty compelling reasons to open a 529 savings plan if you ask me.

I have started saving for my daughter's college. When I separated from my ex I took a huge cut in alimony on the basis he would open and put the money into a college fund for BOTH our children. When our son graduated this past spring I learned he has not saved a dime but spent the money that was to go towards our kids' college - a man who makes over 25,000 a year should not have problems paying his child's education. I'm currently a student and working towards paying for my own college. At this point my hope is to earn my doctorate degree and teach at a college where my daughter or son can attend and earn the undergrad degee for free! Sadly he lives in Ohio and sadly he asked ME if I knew how much college cost - I said YES, I'm a senior, I know all too well the cost. He has a high school diploma and a job that is a gift - he can't see the real value or the need for a college degree in today's world. :(
We set up UT accounts for our two kids.
i am dave ramsay-ing my way through my own college debt still, so no, nothing saved for the kids yet!
