This is definitely useful information to be aware of. If you’d like to print it off so you can carry it with you (as I always do!), here’s a direct link to the Walmart corporate coupon policy.
Walmart accepts the following types of coupons (see guidelines below):
- Manufacturer coupons (Cents Off)
- Free merchandise (or Buy-One-Get-One-Free) coupons
- Store coupons
- Pharmacy (Advertising and Promotional) coupons
- Internet coupons
- Soft drink container caps
The following are guidelines and limits:
- Walmart only accepts coupons for merchandise we sell and only when presented at the time of purchase.
- Coupons should have an expiration date and be presented within the valid dates. Walmart will not accept expired coupons.
- Internet coupons should be legible and say “Manufacturer Coupon.” There should be a valid remit address for the manufacturer and a scannable bar code.
- Only one coupon per item is permitted.
- Use of 40 or more coupons per transaction will require approval by Customer Service Manager.
Although it’s not explicitly stated here, in my experience, if your total savings are more than 50% off your total purchase price, your transaction will require approval by a Customer Service manager as well.

Thank you so much. That is very helpful…:) I’m getting “armed and dangerous” for triples at Harris Teeter this week for the first time!

I tried to use a smart source coupon I got from a blinkie at another store. Walmart refused to take it! I pushed and the manager said NO!

I have to share with you my 1st coupon experience. Bare with me, I HONESTLY….I thought I was at Meijer, had my Meijer mealbox coupons and manufacturer coupons….At the check out the associate said, we don’t normally take these? Okay, but I am at Meijer, what’s the problem? Your Meijers! She accepted them and then I called my sister to tell her about my great deals, told her about how they weren’t going to accept my Meijer couons, which I thought was odd! Then I looked at my receipt again…it said WALMART! Ops….can you believe it, the whole time I thought I was at a Walmart! HA! HA! Too funny, I was one I had never been too before -my bad! ha! ha! So it does work, I have my receipt! Also, this at the Walmart in Aurora, IL off Farnsworth. ;) – preppy little dress

Smart source coupons can only be redeemed at the stores they give them out. I think they’re a certain promotion for very certain products. They put those little machines right in front of that product so you’ll 1- notice the coupon 2- buy the product. So no, other stores will not take smartsource coupons. Sorry I didn’t mention that earlier but I had forgotten about those. Good to use in the stores that do carry them though. =)

Today when I went to my local Walmart they told me they were no longer accepting coupons with the veri-fi name on them. The manager said that veri-fi is not paying them the value of the coupon and they are a fraudulent company. This was very alarming to me since all of the coupon.com coupons have this on them. I used the form on the veri-fi site to let them know. I hope this is just a mistake…

I encountered my first not-so-coupon-friendly-cashier at Walmart yesterday. She told me if the coupon doesn’t have the extra little fuzzy bar code thing at the top on interent coupons they can’t accept them which all of my smart source printed ones do not. Is this true?

The reason that some of the Wal-mart stores are not taking some of the internet coupons is from the growing number of fake coupons they are receiving. It is hard to determine if some of the coupons are real or fake. Also when someone calls the 1 800 wal mart # it sends an e mail to that store you are calling in ref to and someone from THAT store is calling you. NOT corporate.

I am in Texas. The Walmart closest to me now refuses to price match anyone that is 7 miles from their store. For years they have price match almost any store. I called Walmart and they said it was up to the store manager. Seems like they’re always changing the rules when some new has his own ideas and not corporate. I don’t know if anyone eles has had this problem. Annie

I have been a loyal Wal-mart shopper for many, many years now, always using Internet coupons, price matching sales ads, you name it. But as of today, Wal-mart has lost my business. There are 3 WM stores in my area, and I started going to Mt. Olive NC because the store was always clean, casheirs friendly, and they took my I-coupons (whereas Goldsboro NC WM did not). Cashiers began hassling me about the I-coupons a few months ago, and not all of them would price match all sales ads, claiming companies like Walgreens weren’t a competitor due to distance, but why did they price match IGA who is next door to Walgreens? Or would not price match CVS b/c you have to use your ECB card, but they still price match Food Lion and you have to use your MVP card to get the sale. Now Mt. Olive NC WM refuses to accept Internet coupons, period, even when I showed the cashier a printed copy of Wal-mart’s coupon policy that I got from Walmartstores.com. She said it was “their store policy.” I asked to speak to a store manager, got CSM instead. The CSM swapped cashiers on me without explaining what she was doing, and the new cashier had no idea what was going on. Also, on a previous trip to WM, the cashier rang something up one too many times, so tonight after my purchases I went to Customer Service to get a refund on what I was overcharged. The CSM from earlier asked if she could help me. I explained what was wrong, had to re-explain and re-explain because she didn’t get it, then when she finally did, she told me she was going to Gardening Center and another person would have to help me. What??!! She’s the one who said, “Can I help you?” Grrr! I get riled up just thinking about it. Needless to say, I did not buy any of the items in my cart that I had an I-coupon for. I handed them back and told them I would no longer tolerate these experiences b/c they were too frequent–no Internet coupon, no business from me.
Sorry for the soapbox, just have to vent. I’m glad that I’m not the only one having so many troubles with WM.

I didn’t have any trouble with my i-coupons yesterday at Walmart but I took the advice of looking for a cashier who looked younger and this one was distracted by griping about her arm hurting. I sort of felt deceptive doing this but didn’t feel like a hassle. I am from a small area in Illinois and there are no Albertsons, Publix, CVS, or most of the other stores listed on this site. WM, Wags, and Target are it. We do have Hy-Vee that can have some pretty good deals. They had 10 lb. Bags of chicken thighs for $3.90 and $.09 digital prints yesterday! The store manager was my cashier and I handed him a stack of i-coupons. He didn’t say a word but when he came across the tombstone pizza ones he said “I just printed some of these out this morning myself!” Hy-Vee is now the store for me!

Thank you so much for all of the comments. I am very new to couponing and have had a little trouble with Walmart, and a little trouble with Target. I thought maybe it was just me or my stores. So good to know that I’m not alone out here :) I have printed off both Target, Walmart and CVS coupon policies and will try to carry them with me.

Walmart is one of only a few companies doing extremely well now. I think people who used to say ”Oh I never go to Walmart” now shop there. I understand some people try to cheat the system but I think the majority of us are just trying to lower our grocery bill & save a few bucks on pet food/shampoo etc. Walmart should get it’s act together and come up with one set of rules. Having said that, I’ve been in the Walmart I complained earlier about twice since then, & the cashier took my Internet coupons w/out any incident whatsoever. I never have tried the ‘price matching’. I think I figured that would be somewhat of a nightmare.

I went shopping Friday and they were tring not to take my nternet coupons. I said to them according to Company policy you do. Then the manager insisted that the cashier rang them up and they wouldnt go through and that he tried in the back and they didnt go through. I said she never tried to ring up my coupons. He said did you and the cashier said no and she tried and bam it was $1.oo off and so on so needless to say that manager felt like a smuck and his assistant manager who was standing right beside him did. He was so rude i wish i had a copy of the policy on me and belive you me I have it now…

My last trip to WalMart was a nightmare. I didn’t have the policy with me and I do have a couple of ? They wouldn’t take my B1G1 – they said WalMart doesn’t accept them. Then I had products that the coupon wouldn’t scan and it was the correct item so they told me if it doesn’t scan they can’t take it – apparently can’t punch it in??? Then I had some items that were under the dollar of the value so she hand punched those (funny) to make it under. I don’t know if this is right or not but they get reiembursed for the full coupon. So, anyone aware of any policies about B1G1 free, coupon won’t scan with correct item – are they suppose to punch it in or not, and if the item is under the value of the coupon (now I’m not talking about a write in the price on the coupon) a straight $4.00 coupon on any Pace product for example. One more thing – if you have a B1G1 coupon can you also use another $2.00 off the item? Lots of ?’s – sorry I just want to be educated on WalMarts policies so I can discuss them if they come up.
Thanks. Love your site as always.
molly
Wal-mart should take regular B1G1 coupons as long as they are a manufactorers coupon and has a scan code & exp date. You cannot use another coupon w/ the B1G1. The B1G1 coupon covers both the items, so they don’t let you add another coupon in the mix. — Wal-mart and a few others started the ”If it doesnt scan we cant take it” policy a couple mnths ago, but it’s funny how you point out they can manually input it if the amount is lower than the coupon, but they can’t if it doesnt scan… hmmmm. I’ve seen a few stores lately that when its a free coupon they give you off the coupon value and not the actual price of the item. I do not know if the store gets the item price back (the checkers usually write this amount on the coupon) or the coupon amount. Interesting though. But yes if its a manufactorers coupon w/ good exp date wal-mart should take the B1G1. Happy couponing.

I tried to use one internet printed coupon at my local WM and they refused it. They have a computer (one for the entire store) at the end of the cashier aisles where they say they are checking each and every internet coupon. It was completely ridiculous! If I have to go through that I won’t bother with WM. My local Target has no problem with the printed coupons. I did not have a copy of the coupon policy, but when I said that their corporate policy is to accept printed coupons she told me no.

Well… went back to Walmart about 6 am. Took the printed Walmart Corporate Coupon Policy. Spoke with the manager and told him about the problem the night before. He gladly excepted my coupons, and after the cashier rung up the order did an override on the transaction so that all of my coupons were taken off. Problem was the poor cashier had to manually key each one in because the night before they had already scanned mine so the computer recognized the coupons as already having had been used. I feel vindicated!!!

My local Walmart Supercenter wouldn’t take a $1/1 q for Hefty bags. It was a coupon I picked-up at the grocery store from a non-blinking shelf hanger-type thing.
They denied the coupon because the words “manufacturer coupon” were not printed on the front. Although it has “Smart Source Coupon Machine” stamped on the front — not good enough I guess.
This is not an Internet coupon; it is professionally printed and glossy. I esclated the issue to cashier supervisor and then Cust Svc, but they all sang the same tune.
So I returned the three Hefty bag purchases. I’ll wait for next week’s double-coupon day at the grocery store.
molly
Wal-Mart usually does not accept ”Smart Souce Coupon Machine” coupons. Those are not the same as Manufactorers Coupons and usually (if not always) only the store displaying the coupon will take it.

Yesterday, I was informed by the Store Manager at my Walgreens in Gardendale, AL, that their Register Rewards® Coupon printed at checkout was a Manufacturer Coupon and that I could not use my Manafacturer Coupon and their Register Rewards Coupon on the same item. Does anyone know about this? I do it all the time at CVS.
Mary Sue
Emily
Mary Sue,
Your total qty of coupons and register Rewards can’t be more than the amount of items you are purchasing. You can use both but if you have 6 coupons/Register Rewards and only five items you will either need to purchase 1 more item or leave off a coupon.

I want to know if the coupons that you can print rt off the computer if you can use them in any store but most of wal mart?

Quick question…
Had major issues at wally world tonight trying to use the $1 off ANY Tide detergent (man. coupon) Was buying the travel size and coupon clearly states ANY tide with no size restrection. Cashier & csm refused because item was .97 cents. Shouldn’t they just price adjust the item up to $1? Does anyone know how this works???

Today, Monday, July 20, 09, I was shopping at GIANT EAGLE, my husband went through a check out with several coupons; quite a few being internet coupons; I checked myself out with 4 internet coupons, I was aproached by 2 store managers; 1 of of them doing all the talking acusing me that the coupons were not valid and that Giant Eagle has not taken internet coupons for a couple months. I tried to explain to him that that I have always used them there, the latest being the day before. I have had other store managers wait on me and have taken the coupons. If anyone has the Coupon Policy for GIANT EAGLE and can share it I sure would appreciate it.
Thank you, Donna S. Lancaster, Ohio

MY WALMART WOULD NOT TAKE THE CHEF BOYARDEE COUPPONS. They said there is no bar code under the date. So that makes it a fake coupon. An they gave me a problem with the nestle water coupons if you get the 6 pack of flavored it’s free. On the coupon it has a pic of the 12 pack but it states on any multi pack. The six pack is a multi pack.
Cheryl
Please publish a Walgreens coupon policy. I have had numerous problems with that store accepting coupons for $1 when the product is 99 cents. Why cant they take off 99 cents instead of $1 to make the transaction go through like Target does?
Char
I have had the same problem with Target, Meijer & walmart, and rite aid with trial size All & Tide. They always give me a problem with them too with the $1 coupons. I have pretty much gievn up on that. I may try again. If we could get a copy of target, kmart coupon policy I owuld be delighted, OH AND RITE AID!!!! I ahve so many issues with the Rite aid near my house. I would like a copy too if nayone has any. I hate those people there. LOL

Does “store coupons” mean only coupons from Wal-mart or will they accept a “target” store coupon for their item?
Krystal
I’m a cashier at Wal-mart in Michigan. If it’s a store coupon, meaning specifically for a store such as meijers you can only use it at the store it is made for. Wal-mart will not accept store coupons from another store. Also, a good offer to take advantage of is the price matching on any advertised price. Make sure to bring in the ad you are trying to price match, the cashiers don’t always have every ad at the register.

Just a quick note and YMMV but my WalMart accepted a coupon from the BJ’s Wholesale club circular for Pampers diapers. It was $7 off of BJ’s price if I bought 1 box of pampers and 1 box of wipes. I had the circular with me and they took my coupon!
