1. Walgreens does not provide cash back if a coupon is presented for more than one purchase value of the item -
(i.e. the customer is using the coupon to purchase a clearance item);

If you purchase an item that is less than the value of the coupon, you will get the item free but no cash back. So in this case, you should get the item, but not get back the penny.

2. If the retail of the item is less than the face value of the coupon;
*The coupon value shall be the retail value if the state requires taxes to be paid on that item;
*The coupon value shall be the retail value plus taxes if the state does not require taxes to be paid on the item; *All valid coupons must be presented to the cashier at the time of sale only;

Basically, this tells me that if my state requires taxes and I purchase an item that is less than the coupon presented, they will adjust the coupon to the price of the item AND collect the sales tax. If my state does not require tax, then they will adjust the price of the item and not collect any tax.

I would print this out and take it with you to the store. I would also, as someone else suggested, encourage you to contact corporate and let them know that managers in your store are not following the guidelines.

I also see nothing stated in these guidelines about how many register rewards people can use at one time. From what I can see, the only thing the managers can really do, is limit quantities, so one person doesn't clear the shelf, or perhaps refuse a coupon they feel is not legitimate. I personally have never had an issue with this but I can certainly understand your frustration because I would be very frustrated too,.

I had an issue a few weeks ago with internet coupons. My store suddenly decided they were not taking them at all. I did contact corporate who contacted the store. When the store called me back, I was still not satisfied with my answer, and I called corporate again. I got another call back from the store stating they were mis-informed, and that they ARE taking internet coupons, just not ones for free product. So it does pay to call corporate. You just need to be very nice, explain your position, and then be persistent if you know you are right. Corporate will give you a reference number - keep it handy and continue your dialog (nicely) if you still don't feel you are satisfied. Corporate does want their customers to be satisfied, and they do try to work with you to get your issues resolved.

I'm going to take a copy of Nicole's post--so I can prove that there is no "guideline" regarding readjusting coupons to a lower amount.

BTW...I'd like to give Nicole a "shout out" for complaining to corporate regarding their "guidelines". Every email helps, if everyone who has a problem at their store would do the same, I think Walgreens would have to begin to make some "standardized policies" sooner or later. I will certainly be emailing Walgreens if I have a problem.

On another blog I follow, the host sent a letter to Walmart containing all the complaints from her followers...ei, clerks make us feel like criminals when using coupons; stores won't take online coupons; and the, overall poor trainning. Then she posted an excutive's email address and told followers to complain to him. Well, the one store I had problems with taking online coupons IS now taking online coupons. Also, there has been pictures of signs in front of Walmart's (mainly in the midwest) stating they take any coupon and match any ad.

This is the power of the consumer. In this economy, the consumer has the ability to make or break a store, and change policies. Sure you can go to another store out of anger, but if you really want a store to change...this is the only way to acheive it.

Unfortunately, we do not have a coupon policy, rather "guidelines" we follow.

*1 Walgreen and 1 manufacturer coupon can be used for the same item, unless either coupon prohibits; *Walgreens does not provide cash back if a coupon is presented for more than one purchase value of the item
(i.e. the customer is using the coupon to purchase a clearance item);
*If the retail of the item is less than the face value of the coupon;
*The coupon value shall be the retail value if the state requires taxes to be paid on that item;
*The coupon value shall be the retail value plus taxes if the state does not require taxes to be paid on the item; *All valid coupons must be presented to the cashier at the time of sale only;
*Managers have the right to limit the quantities of all advertised items (also disclosed on the back of the ad circular); *Walgreens does not price match with other retailers;
* Walgreens does not accept competitor coupons;
*Walgreens does not accept expired coupons;
*If an item is purchased with a manufacturer coupon is returned, the customer will get the retail price of the item. If the customer purchased an item with a Walgreens coupon, the customer receives the price paid.

Notice NOWHERE in the email does it say they won't accept coupons if the value of the coupon exceeds the price of the item. They only say no cash back... So what does that mean? I have no idea they haven't responded with a direct answer to my direct question.

"Ok so that email doesn't answer my question? Does Walgreens reject coupons if the value of the coupon exceeds the price of the item even by one penny? "

I HATE Walgreens now. I also got told I was breaking the law and commiting fraud by trying to use the coupon. Gee I'm a criminal because I am trying to use a coupon... I think not!!!

Screw Walgreens, I'm going to use Target, Rite-Aid, Walmart ANYONE except for them.

I've had 2 good experiences with the coupons there and 4 bad ones. I won't go back there for anything at all after today
