Loyal Redcard holders are going to begin getting some new benefits starting October 17th, including an automatic 5% off almost all purchases made in-store or online at check out. On top of that, for ever 5 prescriptions filled at the Target pharmacy with your REDcard, you’ll be rewarded with 5% off coupon.
Best part? This automatic discount is applied even when you’re using Target and/or manufacturer coupons. But, since the 5% comes off when you swipe your card while paying, it is applied to your after-coupon total.
This new program includes all REDcard participants such as:
- Target Credit Card
- Target Visa Credit Card
- Target Debit Card
You won’t have to change the way you shop. Just swipe your REDcard when paying and the price change will be updated with you reward discount.
This program is going to replace the current rewards program, which is ending tomorrow. Automatic discount excludes prescriptions, gift cards, prepaid cards, Target Clinic, Target Mobile Solutions, and Target Optical.
Don’t forget to check out this week’s Target Deals and the Ongoing Target Deals for more opportunities to save.

Any idea what will happen to the amount current cardholders had accrued towards a 10% off certificate? I’m sure I was several hundred $ towards a certificate and I’m going to be annoyed if they don’t award something for it. That said, 5% off everything is a much better reward.

I believe you will get up to 6 more 10% off coupons, assuming you have the points total. A cashier told me that you will then actually get 15% off on the days you use the 10%. I think I saw in something we received that said they would be notifying those that had over 6 months worth of reward point accrued. I am also anxious to see what they plan to do.

the 5% off has already started in our area (Orlando, Fl). I went to my Target yesterday and I got 5% off my bill.

That is exactly what I need. More incentive to spend money at Target… Sigh.
(Target, I love you too much!)

So, it comes off at purchase? Not like Discover where it accumulates.

It already started in my area too (Southern California). I shopped yesterday and got 5% off when I swiped my Target Check Card. Woohoo!

I am hopelessly devoted to my Discover card. The rewards are great, esp. if you’re paying your balance in full each month. However, I’ve been looking forward to this 5% discount with using my Target Visa, and they might give Discover some competition!
Jan
Can anyone explain the Target Debit Card to me!?!?!? I know it comes right from my checking but ?????
Chris
Jen, the debit card is a great deal. A lot of people (myself included) have tried to reduce their use of credit cards and have turned to debit cards. The Target Debit Card comes right out of your checking account, but you still get the 5% off you get for using the Target card and your purchases are still used to donate money to your local schools. I have posted to blog entries on the subject of debit card and the 5% off for every purchase. they should answer all your questions. https://ilovetargetstores.blogspot.com/2010/09/target-check-card-review-good-and-not.html
