Our Target stated “You cannot use a coupon on a product that will completely cancel out the price.” In other words they just made something up so that we could not get it for free.

It seems like a lot of people are having problems with GM/Cereal coupons. I don’t think I will try this as tempting as it looks.
I think the “spirit” of the coupon was $1 off the boxed cereals. It really doesn’t make sense for Target to give $1 off on an item that virtually cost $1.
A lot of times you can get an item for free ONLY when there is a Target coupon and a Manufactures Coupon. But rarely can you get an item for free with only a Store coupon.

Ok – I had a very embarrasing ordeal as well. See I usually got to a male cashier because they don’t care to give you trouble, in fact they are always amazed at my bargains and are very happy for me. But today I had a female cashier and of course she had a problem with me getting free cereal and using 2 coupons for each dove deodorant. she tried to say i could only use one coupon per item and i told her per target policy, 1 target coupon and 1 manufact. coupon per item allowed. she insisted on calling the manager over and the manager was not mean at all, she did proceed to call headquarters who did approve the use of my coupons..All of them. this manager was nice to me and wether she approved or not helped me in a courteous manner. however while i waited for her to return, the cashier was snippy and voided my transaction and proceeded to have customers pass me over and over again. that was the embarrasing moment of it all. Ok, I got the free cereal but i don’t know if i will try to get this cereal again as according to everyone’s posts these coupons will continue to beep. Oh yeah, i got the deodorant too.

The GM cereal coupon is no longer there…unless I am missing something.!?

My store wouldn’t let me buy the single cups. They told me it had to be a big box of cereal. She wouldn’t ask a manager and I wasn’t in the mood to mess with her. When I told her to take the cereal off my bill she looked at me like I was crazy. I don’t know that I will bother with target again!

I actually was so upset by my embarrassing experience that I wrote the Target Customer Service regarding the issue.Technically none of us are in the wrong here!!! :) This is their coupon policy that they emailed back to me that I thought I would share:
“In the meantime, I’d like to share with you some information about our coupon policy. When accepting coupons, we use the following guidelines: – We accept two kinds of coupons: Target-issued and manufacturer-issued.- We’ll accept one Target coupon and one manufacturer coupon for the same item, unless either coupon prohibits it.- We can’t give cash back if the face value of a coupon is greater than the purchase value of the item; in this case, we’re able to adjust the value of the coupon to equal the price of the item.- We can’t accept coupons from other retailers, or coupons for products not carried in our stores.- All valid coupons should be presented to the cashier while you’re checking out.”

I had the same issue however there was no store manager available. Just a so-called supervisor. She also stated there was a box in the picture. I stated it doesnt specify box, bag, size, etc. She wouldnt take them. She even made a comment about them being internet coupons and that she has issue with taking those but if I would like to buy a full sized box shed be happy to take $1 off. I am not sure what I will do at this point. But I was embarrassed as well….and left pissed. All my $80 cash purchases I left them right there for them to void. They definitely wont get my business again.

Same story here too – except I ended up getting the 10 cups but the manager said “THIS IS THE LAST TIME.”
I also got 2 hungry hippos and 2 connect 4 travel size games (marked $4.99 each) and used 4 – $4 coupons and they ALL beeped too, but I think the cashier was so annoyed that he just pushed it through.

It would be helpful if you would edit your posts to show that (& any others) they beep. I did not get have time to scroll through all the comments yesterday, so ended up getting hassled for 20 min because of these coupons. Also, I think it’s dishonest to tell people these are free when Target has obviously coded them to only work on the boxes.

Forgive, but I must step in. I get so sick of people adding there 2cents in this manner. No one made you read this blog, you decided to on your own. I am grateful the author takes the time out to keep us informed, so let me first say “THANK YOU”. Next, there is nothing dishonest about this post. Different stores create their own policies while some arent supposed to. Some managers base this off their own personal opinions as you can see by the earlier statement “I just cant let you walk out of here with that for free.” However, their headquarters have a different response and clearly inform you of what the policy is. The fact of the matter is that this is a YMMV (Your Mileage May Vary) situation and these coupons are accepted at the stores discretion. It seems mayday your trying to find a scapecoat in this situation because you were embarrased and hassled. Stop being uptight go to another store or just be quiet because accusing someone of being dishonest is an attack to their character and is just plain wrong!

I’ve used 20 cereal coupons at a time with no problem and am going back today for more! These are great for my daughter to take back to college! Thanks for all hardwork everyone on this site does to bring us the best bargins and the biggest bang for our buck!

Just so you guys know Target has to take them according to their own store policy. They will take one manufacture coupon and one store coupon per item. However, CVS carries the GM cups in the seasonal aisle and they take all coupons, and they are the same price as target with less hassle.

I tried to use a coupon for the general mills cups today and the girl gave me a hard time because she said it can’t make them free. She also said that I have to get the cereal pictured, so I ended up getting none because she got an attitude and refused to budge!

I don’t want to do anything wrong when I use coupons. I am honest. The manager at Target today told me that the coupon says one per transaction. It IS there! She said they also limit number per person so there will be enough on the shelfs for the other people. She showed me the sign at customer service and I understand. I will take the limits and go back everyday when I have a good coupon.
