I love swimming. So we make a date to do so at our friends and family's houses and enjoy hotdogs and a cost effective evening!

5 K. C. June 9, 2009 at 10:39 am

We go to the library. We enjoy the AC and all the books.

6 Karen June 9, 2009 at 10:39 am

We go to the beach, and of course park for free. :)

7 Jenni June 9, 2009 at 10:47 am

Our favorite frugal summer activity is to take the kids to grandma's pool and play, or have them play in our larger fenced in yard, complete with their own slide and swing set. It keeps them happy and us relaxing, and not having to spend much but what we need to eat lunch.
Thanks for the great giveaway.

I am a member of the forum- name Jenni.

Haven't been on much because of the summer busy-season, but will be sure to be around when I can later on in the year.

My kids always participate in the library's summer reading program. It's free and it's a great way for them to keep up on some school activities throughout the summer. We also use our library to rent free movies for those rainy summer days or days that are just too hot to be outdoors!

10 Kathy June 9, 2009 at 11:29 am

I take the kids to the park to play and have a picnic. Also taking them bike riding is something they really enjoy.

My favorite frugal summer activity is taking a walk really early in the morning before it gets too hot. It's nice and cool and my 4 year old wakes up early anyway so we just head out first thing. It's a great way to start the day!

I am a new subscriber.....and I have a comment! I have a 10 yr old daughter, a 2 yr old son, and expecting my third in January. As you can imagine, money is tight! I splurged on season passes for my 10 yr old and myself to Six Flags Darien Lake ($45 each)(under 3 is free), teamed up with a friend and took advantage of the free parking offer (4 season passes/free parking). We can pack lunches/drinks and this way, we can go once a week (pratically for free) and enjoy either a show, the water park, or some rides! (It works out to be about $10 per trip for the both of us if we go 11 times....and we have already been there twice! They also give a sheet of coupons with the season pass, so I got my husband and 3 kids that I was watching in for free one day! That alone was worth over $100). I also bought a couple outside toys with my tax return this year, so hanging out in the back yard won't begin or end with "I'm bored"! We also have a "family fun jar" that my daughter made with my girl scout troop. Inside are about 20 + slips of paper with all different activities on them. 99% of them can be done for free or little money, so it's perfect for summer!

14 Linda June 9, 2009 at 11:47 am

Our library has several programs during the summer for children and it's a cool place to be when it gets hot out!

15 jackie passerini June 9, 2009 at 11:48 am

We love to visit the state parks that have lakes. Real frugal activity!

16 Terressa T. June 9, 2009 at 11:51 am

our favorite summer fun activity is to just keep it simple and have a picnic on the patio and run through the sprinkler-it's so much fun to hear the giggle of the kids as the water sprays them!!

We have a large selection of dvds and books and have home movie days or reading days when the weather doesn't allow outside fun. For movie days, we pop popcorn and the kids each get to pick a movie for a 'movie marathon'. They pretend they're at the theater. We also have a lot of yard play. A ball, some sidewalk chalk or homemade beanbags provide hours of cheap fun for the kids. On real hot days, they were their swimsuits and use water guns, bottles or small buckets to soak each other.

22 Cynthia Odom June 9, 2009 at 12:12 pm

I subscribed to the RSS feed a week or so ago! Love the deals! Thanks!

23 Cynthia Odom June 9, 2009 at 12:14 pm

Our favorite thing to do is pack a lunch and go to the YMCA's outdoor pool! We also like to pretend we are from out of town and go to the places that visitors would go, like the boardwalk or the children's museum.

24 Melanie June 9, 2009 at 12:19 pm

We buy a year family pass to the San Antonio Zoo (open 365 days a year!) for only $65, and enjoy the zoo all year round. However, they have a wonderful kiddie area with a "beach" and water and the kids LOVE it. Plus a wonderful airconditioned indoor play area! We love San Antonio!

We hit the park in the early morning and after dinner when it's cooler! We also spend lots of time with the water hose in the backyard=) FREE!!!

27 Serena June 9, 2009 at 12:32 pm

There are lots of fun summer things to do here where we live in NEPA - we belong to a mom's playgroup and we meet up at parks, and plan super great playdates for little to no cost to each of us! But for when it's just my husband, myself and our boys, we like to head out in our backyard for a little bit of pool fun - we purchased a pool 3 years ago(one of the soft sand & sun ones) , and it was the best investment in summer fun! We also like to head out when the sun in going down to enjoy the cool night breeze and have something sweet to eat before bed!

32 Pam June 9, 2009 at 12:44 pm

My frugal activity with my grandchildren on a hot summer day is to play out in the yard with water toys. Their favorites are the slip and slide and the water toy that shoots the balls up in the air.

33 Lynn June 9, 2009 at 12:51 pm

I like to go to the nearby park when the sun is not the strongest usually after 4pm. Find a shady spot and have a picnic.

34 Veronica Garrett June 9, 2009 at 12:52 pm

We have a park by a river. We love to go on a picnic and there are play areas and biking trails.

35 Jessica June 9, 2009 at 12:58 pm

My husband is in the Navy so we go the lake/beach on base for swimming and hanging out. It's free and fun!!!

36 Linz June 9, 2009 at 1:18 pm

Swimming is our favorite summer fun.

37 brandlyn June 9, 2009 at 1:22 pm

38 Denise June 9, 2009 at 1:24 pm

We go to the park in the evening, I get in a 2 mile walk and the kids have a ball @ the playground.

39 Carrie June 9, 2009 at 1:31 pm

We love going to parks.. we have 7 children so anyway we can stretch our dollars we do it. We also like filling up a blow up pool and the kids will play for hours on end. We take trips to grams house and play there.

My favorite frugal summer activity is to have a picnic in our backyard. Get out the kiddie pool, the sprinklers, some yard games, a cooler full of drinks, invite the neighbors and friends over , play some summer fun music and have a cook out!

41 Wendi A-D June 9, 2009 at 1:49 pm

44 Kayce C June 9, 2009 at 1:58 pm

I like to swim in my frend's pool.

45 Dizzy Mommy June 9, 2009 at 2:01 pm

My parents have a grandparent membership to the zoo, since I have 3 kids and then 3 cousins still under 18, my Mom and I can take the kids, my brother, and still have my daughters best friend come. It paid for itself in less then one trip (Detroit Zoo). Its great and we dont end up paying for parking, then we pack peanut butter sandwiches and stuff like that. We get to walk and the kids have a blast.

46 Jennifer Orme June 9, 2009 at 2:24 pm

It's way too hot to go to the park during Vegas summers so we do a lot of indoor picnics, library visits, and SWIMMING whenever we can!

47 Rozie H. June 9, 2009 at 2:38 pm

We go to the beach! It's the best free entertainment ever :)

48 jacqueline June 9, 2009 at 2:39 pm

We take part in our Library's summer reading program.
We also go see Free movies twice a week in the mornings at our local theatre.
We go to the park and do finger painting, play, fly kites, collect leaves.
In our area there is a museum that sales 1 year memberships for $58.00 for a family of 4 and they are good for over 300 museums accross the nation, like Cosi in columbus.
