For the backpacks is it a giftcard or just the usual rebate? (My add says giftcard)
Wendy
I called my local store–you get the cost of the backpack in a STAPLES gift card.
Natalie
Does the $1 or less deals require a $5 minimum purchase? I want to buy the .25 zebra gel pens
Tara
I think only the .01 penny requires the $5 minimum – the ad says the extra deals or something like that and only the .01 stuff has that.
Also, does anyone know – for the reams of paper it says a limit of 2 – is this the same rebate they had a few weeks ago or can you do it again if you did it then?

@ Meghan. Just a crappy Giftcard in return to the store. Not such a great deal imo. They really want you to spend your money there! WalMart has cheaper school supplies too…
You can find a backpack cheaper elsewhere (E-Bay etc) + school doesn’t even start for at least a month. Blah

Yeah, spend your money there, they are fabulous for your ink cartridge deals.
Buy ink, return your used, get a credit for buying ink
and get a credit on any you use. Heavens yes, Staples rocks

How was the selection of backpacks at Staples? I never can get there on Sunday. Just wondering, because I want to get a nice one for my daughter who is starting college. What’s the price ranges? The online ones were expensive & ugly. I don’t want to waste a trip if they’re not that great. But, I agree, we all could use the money to buy ink! Do you know if they take back the used cartlidges if you didn’t buy it there?
Thanks!

I realized the selection will vary from store to store, but here are a few hints from my foray to Staples for the “backpack rebate”. Don’t even eye the totes! They are shown in the ad as being part of the promo, are in the “promo” section of the store, but they don’t earn you the rebate. I argued with the manager/asst. manager and they just wouldn’t budge. I said they should at least move the totes or make a note re: the wrong items pictured in the ad. However, let me jump off my soapbox and say that my store in Springfield, OR had a great selection. I usually opt for the higher end brands Jansport, etc. All stores have bags that range from around $14.99 to $70, but all bags are currently discounted 25% or 50%, the lower discount being for the higher end brands and the larger discount for the lower end brands. I would say they had several 100 bags, all different styles, so I think you would find one you like. I especially liked the Jansport messenger bags, but not sure if these would qualify for the rebate since they aren’t technically a “backpack”. They run $65.99 with 25% off. If you shop at Staples or want to sell your gift card this may be a good deal, but for example my Macy’s store had last years Jansport backpacks for cheaper than Staples now (weighing the giftcard you might be ahead a bit, but if you don’t shop there then it wouldn’t benefit you). Regardless, I encourage people to purchase a bag and donate it to a local school, we have lots of kids who could benefit from this if you would be willing to go to the trouble of it!

If you shop online and use a cashback site of your choice, the free backpack is a great deal. Staples has a very easy online rebate program. The online site is very clear as to which backpacks qualify. Also, Staples has free delivery for a purchase of $50+. You can return any empty ink cartridge for a $2 Staples credit that comes by mail. I love my local Staples but will do the backpack deal online to get the cashback, too.

Just did it twice, once for my sister, and neither printed a rebate slip so they just gave me one. I guess it has been happening all day. I didn’t have any problems submitting the cute green bag in the picture, but I got another that was more “Tote” like (Access Drawsting 735221862709 for $14.99 after discount) that the store manager told me was for sure participating, but staples over the phone is saying they need the receipt to process it because it isn’t coming up in the system. I don’t want to mail it in and have to wait 18 days before I hear that it is rejected and then have to return it. Aug. Anyone else had experience with this?

About the Staples backpacks….Yesterday, I went to Staples to take advantage of their backpack deal. Boy was I surprised to find the prices for packs start at $26.00! Now, if my 13 y/o son was in elementary school maybe he could have gotten by with one of the $26 packs, but no way would they be suitable for high school (too small, too flimsy, not built to handle a binder and several text books). The next price I saw was $52.99. Way out of our budget. I got the idea to shoot directly to the Salvation Army d to see what they had in the line of backpacks. Viola! We found one immediately (it was as if God had put it right on top in the luggage section just for us). It was extremely similar to the $60-79.99 backpacks we saw at Staples. It was well-padded, well-constructed and sturdy, plus clean inside and out. The yellow tag said $6.99. When we got to the counter we were charged $3.49 (yellow tags were 1/2 price).
God gets all the credit for this deal!
