When all else fails, I consult Sunset magazine for recipes. There's a great Spinach Gratin recipe (http://find.myrecipes.com/recipes/recipefinder.dyn?action=displayRecipe&recipe_id=1547076) that has been my contribution to family holiday gatherings for 5 years now.

These are so good, you dont need to frost them, just sprinkle sugar to make them look cute!
Sugar Cookies
1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
1 cup butter or margarine, softened
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 teaspoon almond extract
1 egg
2 1/2 cups Gold Medal® all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon cream of tartar
Granulated sugar or colored sugar
Mix powdered sugar, butter, vanilla, almond extract and egg in large bowl. Stir in remaining ingredients except granulated sugar. Cover and refrigerate at least 2 hours.
2. Heat oven to 375ºF. Lightly grease cookie sheet.
3. Divide dough in half. Roll each half 1/4 inch thick on lightly floured surface. Cut into desired shapes with 2- to 2 1/2-inch cookie cutters. Sprinkle with granulated sugar. Place on cookie sheet.
4. Bake 7 to 8 minutes or until edges are light brown. Remove from cookie sheet. Cool on wire rack.

Honey ham, smashed potatoes, pumpkin pie. Thanks!
My favorite holiday dish is lost to my childhood memories. My aunt used to make this incredibly yummy dessert with a buttery, nut crust and a creamy pudding topping but no one knows the recipe anymore. :( Someday I hope to come across it in a cookbook or at a party. I just hope it can stand up to the memory my mind has created for it! Lol. :D
I love my mom's holiday roast. Mmmm mmmmm good!

For the holidays I make cookes that are based off a cloned Doubletree Hotel cookie recipe. Although I've changed it up a bit (more cinnamon, maybe some raisins or white chocolate pieces rather than or in addition to the chocolate chips). They take a while to make but everyone (including me) loves them.
