This week, Rite Aid introduced another new program nationwide called the +UP Reward program. If you shop at CVS, the program appears to be a lot like the CVS ECB’s program. Here’s how it works:
- Each week, Rite Aid will list items in the ad that qualify for +UP Rewards. There should also be a shelf tag next to the item specifying the +UP Reward (similar to the SCR tags).
- You will need to use your Wellness+ card to get the +UP Reward (and to redeem the reward).
- The +UP Reward will print on the bottom of your receipt (see picture above) when you purchase the specific item/quantity. From what I understand, you do not need to purchase all the items in one transaction to qualify for the +UP Reward. The reward will print once the quantity needed is purchased.
- You can use your +UP Reward to pay for your next purchase. From what I understand, they will not adjust the reward down and there is no overage allowed, so you will need to purchase filler items to avoid overage.
- There is a limit of 1 +UP Reward per item per transaction. Meaning, this week you could get the Duracell and Old Spice +UP Reward in one transaction, but you cannot get 2 Old Spice +UP Rewards in one transaction.
- The +UP Rewards are appearing to roll. Meaning, you could use the Old Spice +UP Reward to purchase more Old Spice and still receive another +UP Reward.
- At this time, there does not appear to be a limit on the number of times you can get a +UP Reward for an item in separate transactions. This may change in the future as Rite Aid refines the program.
- The +UP Rewards that I earned today both expire 2 weeks from the last day of the sale (Saturday). So, if you shop towards the beginning of the week, you have almost 3 weeks to use your +UP Reward.
- Since the program is new, there may be kinks in the system. Be vigilant that your +UP Rewards are printing and that they are actually being deducted from your total when you redeem them. I had an issue with redeeming my coupon today, due to a system problem. The manager had to push it through, but if I hadn’t noticed, I would have lost the $4 reward since the cashier thought it scanned and put it in the drawer.
- As of right now, Rite Aid still has the SCR program. However, it is still to be seen if they phase out the SCR program in favor of the +UP Rewards program.
Have you shopped at Rite Aid since they introduced the new +UP Rewards program? What do you think? Do you have anything to add or any questions?

i bought old spice bodywash 2 for $7, used bogo, paid 3.50, got back $4 reward. did it 2 times this week to see if it would work twice
bty20237
From mhy understanding, it will work as long as you do them in separated transaction.

I don’t shop at CVS, but I sometimes shop at Walgreens. Is this program kind of like the Register Rewards program? When you redeem the UP Rewards, is it the same as the RR’s where you can only have one RR or coupon per item? Ex: If I have 1 item that costs $10, and 2 UP rewards of $4 each and a $1 coupon, can I use all of them toward the item? Hope I’ve asked that clearly enough!!!
Corrie @ "Cents"able Momma
Rhonda,
It is not as strict as the Walgreens program with coupons/item, so you don’t have to worry about having filler items to have the same coupon/item ratio. You should be able to use all the coupons mentioned above for the 1 item. You just cannot have overage.
bty20237
If you like RR, you should like this better. I like less about Walgreens RR because they have a lot of rules. I have to remember not to use the same RR for the upcoming RR. They only take up to 2 RR per transaction. The RR can not combine with Manufacture coupon on the same item… Too many rules, so I only purchase items that really attract me.
becca
im a walgreens employee, i dont know which walgreens you shop at but if there only allowing you to use 2 rrs per transaction, there wrong, you can use as many as you want, just as long as you have the same amount of coupons you do items.
Jessica
be so careful when you redeem. the first time it didn’t scan and the cashier tried to convince me that it was only good if i bought old spice body wash again. the manager stepped in there. the second time i used one, it sounded like it scanned, but it didn’t. glad i caught it!!
Corrie @ "Cents"able Momma
I went shopping on Tuesday evening, and I had the same thing happen. I think their system was having a few kinks that needed to be ironed out. You definitely want to ensure that all of your coupons scan before you leave the store.
Angel
I am a pharmacist for RiteAid, and you have to make sure that your Wellness+ card was scanned at the beginning of the transaction, and has “registered” on the system– it takes a minute or so to ‘retrieve’ your information from the satellite–for it to activate your coupon; the coupon is reliant upon your card info being scanned onto the transaction.
Hope this helps.
Anna
I don’t shop at rite aid because they will not take coupons printed off a computer. Everyone else takes them with no questions.
Jessica
Rite Aid has never questioned my printed coupons. I’m sad that you’ve got a store like that!
Jessica
You know, their coupon policy is crystal clear if you want to push the issue!

Angel
You need to ask for the manager, and if they still don’t, you need to call the district manager (just ask for their name and #)- I work for Rite Aid, and we have been told numerous times that we CAN take printed coupons; I use them myself all of the time!
Kristine
I’ve become a fan of Rite Aid, yes they’re prices are a little higher than most but with the printed coupons and +up rewards, it’s a winner.
bty20237
They take online coupon up to $5. I have to say, RiteAid has become my favorite shop after all these programs launched. I saved a lot and their coupon policy are clear than CVS and Walgreens. I found myself argue less when I shop at Rite Aid. That’s why I reduce my shopping at the other store. I hate when the clerk will not take my coupons when I know I am right.
amy
They take all my printed coupons as long as there’s a barcode on it.
Heather
I used the UP program Sunday on the Old Spice deal and am pleased with it. Unfortunately, the stores weren’t given any information or training on it so it may take awhile for them to all learn how to do it.
Kristine
I agree Heather…my cashier really didn’t know how the program worked. They do need more training.
Sylvia
It might be a per product case whether you can buy 2 of the same product and get 2 +up rewards. I just bought 2 pampers & got 2 $1 Up+ rewards. Perhaps the Old Spice had a limit 1 (like CVS often does on it’s ecb)?
Corrie @ "Cents"able Momma
The ads state 1 per transaction for most items, but I think that they’re still working on the register system so that everything works correctly. That’s great that it worked for you!
Tara
I went earlie this week and did the Old Spice Deal (combined with some other deals) 4 times and got the Up Rewards 4 times and it also qualified for the P&G $5GC and the $2 Old Spice SCR. I am completely loving Rite Aid right now – I have never gotten such good deals in my life and they never argue with me about coupons. I will never shop at Walgreens, when I tried to return something I had used a coupon on they tried to tell me I had to pay to return the product – what a joke!
Brie N.
Can you use these with a $5 off $20 coupon? Did they happen to add anything about this to their policy, my Rite Aid is nice but a little coupon inept, I seem to have to pull out the coupon policy every time I shop. I had one checker who has checked there for years tell me I could not use an in-ad RA coupon with a manufacturer coupon just last week and I know that’s been okay for a very long time.
Jessica
I was able to.
Angel
As long as your total is more than a coupon (so you don’t change back)- it should be fine. ~ Rite Aid employee

I had some trouble using my $4.00 +UP rewards today at Rite Aid. The register kept saying that I needed to purchase $6 more dollars worth of stuff to use the rewards yet there’s nothing on the reward that indicates that you have to spend a minimum. Here’s what I was purchasing: the Gillette Fusion Proglide razor, Listerine and 2 more Old Spice Swagger body wash. The total bill before coupons and tax was $20.98 and after coupons was $8.48 so I still should have been able to use the $4.00 +UP reward. After some discussion, the cashier & upline gave me the $4.00 reward so I only spent $4.48+ tax OOP but I got back another +UP rewards of $4.00 plus $8.00 in SCR rebates. Not bad but it’s still frustrating that now we have another type of RA “coupon” that doesn’t seem to work without beeping. I did go to another RA because the first store didn’t have the Blink Tears and I was able to use the $4.00 +UP rewards with no problem once they entered my Wellness Card. I also purchased the Compound W for my son. So, after the 2 transactions my OOP was $14.96 + tax and I got $4.00 +UP rewards (which I used in transaction 2) and $19.99 in SCR rebates for a net moneymaker of either $9.03 or $5.03 (depending how you count the 1st reward that was used) so I guess it’s worth my frustration. :)
Corrie @ "Cents"able Momma
Great job on your transactions! Hopefully they’ll be able to work out all the kinks in the system and adequately train their employees on the +UP Reward policies going forward. Since it was the first week, I don’t think anyone really knew what to expect.
Grace
I didn’t have any troubles as of yet with my +UP Rewards…I am keeping my fingers crossed that there won’t be any either. Sorry to hear that many of you are having issues with the reward not coming off. I do want to tell you all that about two three weeks ago I did the +UP reward on their Huggies diapers. If you bought three huggies, you got back a $11.99 UP Reward. I did it four times and after every transaction I received the +UP Reward. It was awesome! Not only did I get some FREE diapers (I used coupons with all transactions), but I also made money on that deal. I think that eventually they will put a limit on the +UP rewards, but it would be sweet if they didn’t.
andrea
My sister had a transaction gone wrong the other day. One of her items didn’t get rung up, but she didn’t notice it because the Old Spice got rung up four times. Anyways, she got TWO $4.00 +Up rewards. Must be a kink they haven’t corrected yet.

Hi,
I am very confused. From reading this post and comments it looks like +UP rewards can be used toward anything. But when I read my printed +UP rewards, they say something like this
“+UP reward $1 off any shaving or accessory purchase of $10 or more” Very often it says off household or seasonal purchase. I never know what goes into those categories. And there is always $10.00 minimum. I have been getting these printed on my receipts for few weeks now, but I never try to use them because it is confusing.
Please help!
I hope they will keep SCR program going. I am a beginner shopper at Rite-Aid and am enjoying SCR, hope they won’t change it.
Thank you for everything you do.
Sincerely, Liz T
Corrie @ "Cents"able Momma
Hi Liz,
The +UP Reward that you’re referring to is actually just a coupon for $1/$10 purchase. Those print on the bottom of your receipt regardless of what you purchase. It is confusing now that they started calling those +UP Rewards also. They used to be Wellness coupons.
To get the reward that is valid on any purchase, you have to purchase a specific item that generates the +UP Reward. Here’s an example of how to get a +UP Reward this week (week of 6/13):
General Mills Cereal (10.6-16.2 oz.), 2/$5
Get $1 +UP Reward wyb 2
I hope they continue the SCR program, too. It’s actually the easiest of the programs to use at Rite Aid. Hope that helps!
Steph
I’m going to have to go through my receipt and my ad again because I didn’t see any UP rewards on my receipt like I expected to but I didn’t know too much about the program. I got a bunch of stuff there on Saturday and used lots of coupons… I did good but was expecting the UP rewards too. Thanks for the info!
Corrie @ "Cents"able Momma
Check and make sure that your Wellness card was scanned too. If you think you should have received +UP Rewards for your transaction and you didn’t, bring your receipt and ad into the store and ask to speak to the manager. It’s a little more difficult since it’s a new week, but they should be able to do something if you were supposed to receive them.
Corrie @ "Cents"able Momma
Steph,
I just read on a forum that +UP Rewards were not printing on Saturday because the system turned them off a day early. Call 1-800-RITE-AID (1-800-7483-243, press 0 for customer service) and explain the situation. They may ask you for your receipt info, but they should be able to send you +UP Rewards or a gift card in the mail.
Shannon
My up reward is not always printing out either. Last week, I bought the old spice twice and both printed out, later that week, they did not print out. This week, the huggies up reward did not print out. Do you think the total of the transaction needs to be greater than the up reward? Like for the huggies, our total was $0.26 cents, and did not get a up reward. (Mousepad $12.99, Huggies $8.99, – $12.00 VV, -$5.00 VV, —
-$1.00VV, -$3.00 Internet). I can’t remember, but it might have been the same scenario for the old spice at the end of the week.

I just got back from my first trip using the UP rewards and rebates. My UP rewards printed just as someone else’s did – with stipulations on what they could used on and with a minimum purchase. Also, when I just got home and input the information onto the website for my rebate, I learned that the window for purchasing the rebate items had past. However, the signs for rebates were still under the items :( So I won’t be getting that check in the mail next month. I’m thinking I will stick with CVS deals from here on out.
Corrie @ "Cents"able Momma
Sorry you missed the rebate, Jennifer. Most rebates last the full week….the Old Spice Body Wash partial week rebate was an anomaly.
As for the +UP Rewards. Are you sure that the item you purchased was eligible for a +UP Reward? I just tested the +UP Rewards this evening by purchasing the Coppertone, and my +UP Reward printed out as expected. It stated $2 off a Non-Prescription purchase.
There are coupons that also print at the bottom of your receipt that also state +UP Rewards on the top that are $1 off $xx Purchase. It can be kind of confusing.
Natasha
Hi,
I scanned the other comments and I don’t think anyone has asked this question yet, so…
Can I use 3 +up rewards to pay for a transaction? I had a $3, $2, and $1 +up reward that I tried to use to pay for a $10 purchase. The manager told me I could only use one +up reward to pay for a transaction.
Thanks!
Corrie @ "Cents"able Momma
I have not tried to use multiple +UP Rewards yet, but if they give you a hard time, could you split your purchase into multiple transactions and use a +UP Reward for each transaction?
Natasha
I could, but then I can’t use a $5/20 coupon to sweeten the deal. Since I posted this comment, I had called corporate and they verified that I could only use 1 per transaction. =( I hate it when the store managers actually know what they’re talking about.
Corrie @ "Cents"able Momma
Actually, I called customer service yesterday, and the customer service agent stated you can use more than 1 +UP Reward per transaction as long as the total is not negative (excluding tax). I think that since the program is new, they are still in the process of ironing out the wrinkles and training everyone at the store level.
Diane
If you need to purchase 2 Purex to get the UP Reward, do they both have to be in the same transaction? Or can it be transactions apart like CVS with the Nivea deal?
Catherine
Somebody please help.
I went to rite aid yesterday and bought clairol, loreal peference, and pantene’s shampoo and conditioner along with other items. They all gave me +up rewards. So today when I went shopping again to the rite aid closer to home I tried to use the +up reward to pay for my transactions the assistant store manager said that I could use the clairol +up reward only to buy another clairol, the loreal +up reward only for another loreal and so on. We stood talking for a while. He said the wording was a bit confusing on the rewards. In the end I bought my stuff…hoping that I could tell fix the problem later. Please let me how the +up rewards work…I thought it was just like the cvs ecb program. My first time using the +up reward and I almost cried before leaving the store with how the assistant store manager talked to me.
What should I do?
Jessica
I think he was the one who was confused! I would call corporate customer service. Not only was the assistant manager incorrect, but rude as well. I don’t let that kind of thing go since he’ll do it to other customers as well.
Corrie @ "Cents"able Momma
Jessica is right…it sounds like the assistant manager doesn’t completely understand the +UP Rewards program.
You should be able to use your +UP Rewards to pay for any transaction as long as the total is not less than 0.
I have also heard some Rite Aid customers saying that they are not allowed to use more than 1 +UP Reward per transaction, but I called Rite Aid customer service (800-RITE-AID) yesterday, and they stated that you can use multiple +UP Rewards in a transaction as long as the total is not negative (excluding tax).
Diane
If an UP reward requires buying 2 items, can they be purchased in 2 separate transactions and receive it when you buy the 2nd item? Like the ECBs do at CVS?
Corrie @ "Cents"able Momma
Diane,
I have not tried to separate transaction for the +UP Reward yet, and I have not read reports of anyone trying it since the +UPR went nationwide, so I’m not sure of the answer. However, when the program was just in the test areas, you were able to get the +UPR even if you purchased the item in separate transactions.
If you can find a cashier who is willing to work with you, try to purchase separately and see if they print after the second one is purchased. If they don’t, do a return and purchase together for the +UPR. Let us know how it works!
Diane
Didn’t work. I bought a pack of Duracell in one transaction and another in a different store. The deal was to buy 2 Duracell and get a $2 UP but I did not. Oh well.
Corrie @ "Cents"able Momma
Thanks for letting us know, Diane!
Maria
I got the $6 up rewards on the Luvs diapers and used it on a second box right after w/ no problem, which gave me another $6 up rewards and 2 $1 for other items. I was thrilled combined with the $2 instant savings on ea. box, 1 SCR for $2 on luvs and 2 luvs coupons for $2.50 the cost was 12.98 for two boxes of luvs.
The problem was when I went back and was going to pay a purchase for lamisil with the 3 up rewards ($7 total rewards) the cashier said only one up reward coupon was allowed per purchase. So…does anyone know the policy on this? I didn’t have grounds to argue cause I haven’t been able to find any written policy on this at their website…
Corrie @ "Cents"able Momma
Great deal on the Luvs!
Unfortunately, Rite Aid has not modified their coupon policy since they introduced the +UP Reward program (and I’ve heard they are not planning on doing it soon).
When I called customer service (800-RITE-AID) a couple of weeks ago, they said that you can use multiple +UP Rewards per transaction, but ultimately it’s up to the store. I personally have not had issues with using multiple +UPR in a transaction, but I have heard many stories similar to yours.
Liz
Hi,
I love Rite Aid and the fact that they give me $3 towards my next purchase of $15 every time I visit. ;)
I am glad to hear that +UP rewards can be used toward ANY transaction. I was confused about that.
Questions: Can you use +UP rewards WITH $3 off of $15? Can you use +UP rewards towards alcohol?
Thanks!,
Liz
Corrie @ "Cents"able Momma
Yes, you can use +UP Rewards with the $3/$15 coupon. However, I don’t believe that you can use the +UP Rewards towards alcohol. You can read the restrictions on the bottom of the +UP Reward.
Melissa
I was wondering about the UP rewards limits. Right now they have the deal where you buy 1 Oral B toothbrush or 1 Crest toothpaste and get $2 UP reward. In the ad it states a limit of 2 offers per household. If I go back and do the transaction again, will it give me the reward again or does it keep track via your Wellness Card and prevent future rewards for the same deal?
Corrie @ "Cents"able Momma
It tracks the +UP Rewards limits via your Wellness card, so even if you do future transactions you won’t get the +UP Reward once you’ve hit the limit.
BEVERLY COKER
I have several uprewards tickets that have expired the the store will not take. I don’t understand this. CVS wil take expired tickets if they are not over 30 days. I try to use them when they were a few day old and the clerk would not take them. I have stop going to Riteaid because of this. Your coupon expired way to fast. Atleast CVS gives you almost 30 days. Do you think your policy will ever change? I can’t always get to Riteaid within two weeks to use my coupons.
Jen_A
Can you purchase the needed items for a reward in more than one transaction or not? (ie this week is the P&G $10 +UP when you buy $30 in specific products…does this all need to be on one receipt or just both on same wellness card?)
Corrie @ Centsable Momma
Usually when it’s an offer like the P&G offer this week where you need to purchase a $ value to get the +UP Reward, Rite Aid will track the total and you can purchase in multiple transactions.
If it’s get $x +UP Reward wyb 2 of something (etc.), you usually need to purchase those in the same transaction.
Sara
Hello, I am a beginner couponer and I’m currently trying to learn the tricks at Rite Aid. I have a reciept that has multiple +Up coupons on it, and if I understand the policy correctly I should be able to use all of them in a single transaction as long as the purchase total is greater than the coupon total right? I appreciate any help I can get on this ;) oh and I’m pretty proud of myself to have gotten my first free item from Rite Aid! Lovin learning this couponing stuff!
Corrie @ "Cents"able Momma
Yes, you should be able to use them all in a single transaction as long as the purchase subtotal (before tax) is greater than the coupon total.
Congrats on your first free item…I’m sure there will be many more to come :-).
Tara
I am new at couponing…on another blog it talked about getting the Halloween handsop for free with UP rewards..and the sale price.. for starters our store was out and since it was a seasonal item they will not be getting any more.. for second the cashier told me that the Up rewards DO NOT PRINT OFF but they are LOADED to your card.. and it takes 24 hours for them to appear.. I am in Blaine Washington (Whatcom County) Can anyone comment on this or give me other direction?
Corrie @ "Cents"able Momma
You could get a rain check for the item, but like you mentioned, they likely won’t stock the Halloween variety. You could still get a rain check on the regular variety which is not generating an extra +UP Reward, though, and purchase it at a later date.
You’re right that RA recently changed their policy with +UP Rewards so that they load to your Wellness + card the next day, but you can set it up to opt-out of the Load2Card feature (either by calling customer service – 800-RITE-AID or asking the clerk to do it at the register). If you opt-out, your +UP Rewards will print on the bottom of the receipt giving you more control in spending them. However, you still will not be able to use them until the next day.
Hope that helps!
Nancy
I had a very good experience at the rite aid in Goldsboro, N.C. We were on vacation there and it couldn’t have been any better.

Had $12 in ups rewards. Spent $66.97 on 12/24. My $12 ups rewards expire 12/26. Did not notice until 12/25 that my $12 ups rewards were not deducted. What is the problem?
