I really have a hard time believing people dont understand. You are not supposed to eat ANY raw dough not just Nestles, any raw product containing eggs can give you salmonella or food poisoning! Cooked dough will not hurt you, the cooking kills any bacteria that were in the egg. Yes, I know people eat raw dough all the time but everytime you do you take the chance of getting sick, children are especially vulnerable.

Please be aware that the frostys at WENDYS are made with THIS same toll house cookie dough and that it sits in those metal containers all day until it is used up, if it is not all used , then it is put back in the cooler and re-used the next day.

Actually, having owned a national yogurt/ice cream franchise which sold cookie dough ice cream I can say that the stuff they use in that (and in things like Blizzards, etc) is not made with eggs or anything that might present a potential samonella issue. I had the exact same question when that stuff first came out and asked to be sure knowing that there would be some customers with concerns about their kids eating it. ;-)

The thing is, if you try to bake the stuff that's in it, it won't even closely resemble cookies. Trust me, I tried. LOL

I was just going to ask the same thing about cookie dough ice cream. Is that safe to eat? Because it sure would be sad if they stopped making it. I never buy the ready made cookie dough but if I did, I am sure I'd eat it raw too.

I have always wondered how it's safe to eat Cookie Dough ice cream. How is it safe if it's not a baked cookie. Do they pasteurize it somehow before they freeze it?

Just to be clear, I called Nestle and they told me to return the dough even if I was planning on baking it. I think they are just being cautious, but I'm pretty bummed. I scored a sweet deal on Nestle cookie dough this week and was looking forward to some cookies. Oh well, I guess it'll help me in the losing weight department! thanks for puttin the info on here. i always yell at the husband for eating it out of the container. he tells me he wont get sick. so now him and the kid eat out of it and we are only left with maybe 7 cookies when im ready to make some and he wonders why i only baked 7!!! ill make sure he stops feeding it to my little man.

This is just too strange. I never buy this brand of cookie dough. The one time I decide to buy it there is a recall!! I have baked and consumed some of them but, I have some leftover in the package. I will be taking them back to the store for a refund and stick with my regular brand of cookie dough.

Let me preface this by stating that I am NOT telling anyone to not follow the recall instructions. I absolutely feel that everyone should follow them, if only as a precaution. That said, I have a friend who works for the ad agency that handles Nestle (I live 25 min from Nestle). Here is a direct quote from her: "It [the recall] really only affects people who eat raw cookie dough, which you aren’t supposed to do [be]cause of salmonella. Nestle is recalling [be]cause the fact that people do eat it raw. If everyone stuck to the directions and baked the cookies, all product would be fine to eat, no harm to anyone. " My point is, if you already ate the cookies and prepared them properly, you should be ok. You should NOT eat raw cookie dough. I purchased 2 packages of cookie dough when there was a sale at publix not too long ago, and i bakes them and also ate some raw cookie dough. My boyfriend and I are both fine! No problems.....thank god! lol

Oh, that's too bad since I have several packages in my fridge and we already consumed 2 of them. At least I'll get reimbursed for the remainder. Tonya - I just live chatted with someone named Tara at the Very Best Baking site and another woman via the phone who said that you can return them without a receipt. If the store gives you trouble to call back and they can reissue a replacement. Pretty nice, I say. Ellen´s last blog post..Brimming

I just bought several packages a week or 2 when they were on sale at publix but we havn't cooked them yet. Now I don't know whether to make a trip to take them back or throw them away. I wonder if I would have to have my receit in order to take them back??

I ate some of the kind of nestle cookies that are similar to break and bake kinds without cooking it a few years or so ago. It was the sickest I have ever been! I swore off cookie dough for like a year because even the thought of it made me sick! Glad they caught it this time~

We buy the Nestle Cookie Dough from Costco occassionally and eat it from the bucket. It hardly ever gets baked, except when my husband has a say. He doesn't like the dough. Sad, sad days.
