Fall is the season for good things filled with yummy pumpkin flavor. While canned pumpkin is certainly convenient and sometimes less expensive, in my opinion homemade pumpkin puree tastes infinitely better.
Check out my tutorial on how to make pumpkin puree — I promise it’s really easy!

We grow pie pumpkins in our garden! I cut them in half, scrape, and deseed them and put them upside down in a big roasting pan with 1/2 inch of water. I usually have them piled a couple high. Bake ’til tender, then cool a bit. Scoop out the flesh and puree in the food processor. I freeze some in 1 cup portions and some in 2 cup portions. We make the most fabulous muffins and pies throughout the year! Our pumpkin pies don’t look like “traditional” pumpkin pies–totally different color–but they taste so much better!
