Chances are you’re already aware that October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month… The facts are pretty sobering — 250,000+ women in the U.S. are diagnosed with breast cancer every year. In fact, it’s the most common cancer and leading cause of cancer death among Hispanic and Latina women.
I’ve had a number of friends touched by this terrible disease recently, so I’m thrilled to see so many brands partnering with various organizations to fund research. Every little bit helps, right? But I know I always sit up and take notice when a company is doing a little something more than just adding a pink ribbon to their profile for the month or releasing a limited pink version of their gadget.
So when I learned that Allstate Insurance Company is partnering with author Hollye Jacobs to offer FREE copies of The Silver Lining Companion Guide, I was happy to support them in spreading the word. The Silver Lining Companion Guide is a practical and supportive resource to help everyone impacted by a breast cancer diagnosis.
Thanks to the generosity of Allstate, the printed version is offered through select Direct Relief partners and Allstate Insurance Company Agencies, but anyone can access a digital version here. Whether you know someone affected by breast cancer or have been affected personally, I encourage you to download this valuable resource.

My family has been touched by breast cancer many times over the years, taking three angels from us… this year I was diagnosed with breast cancer on 10/5/15. My journey has barely begun and one thing I can say is I am so thankful there are so many resources out there to help. I’m still scared of the chemo and the surgery. But with the support of my family, friends, and the breast cancer resources out there I don’t feel so alone.

Had my first scare when I felt a lump on my breast one morning. Went in to have it looked at and they said it’s probably nothing but to have it rechecked in a year. Unfortunately, maybe due to fear or denial, I never did go back in. It hasn’t grown so I’m hoping that’s a good sign.

I am glad people are speaking out about it. I got my first mammogram last year and I probably would have blown it off if it wasn’t so talked about.
Jane
Thankfully it doesn’t run in our family.

My mom recently beat breast cancer, thank God. During chemo and the whole finding out she had it she remained so strong… I’m not sure how she does it. She is a real estate agent, she still worked, never took one pain pill, lost her hair but had no problem in getting a wig and actually made that a funny process. She wore hats, or just nothing at all and still looked beautiful, along with her attitude. Soon after her beating the breast cancer, growing her hair back, going through some other health problems, she got a call from my sister that her husband was in a horrible car accident that lead to emergency surgery. I will spare the details on all that. So she had just made it bk to TX(she lives in Mansfield, TX where my brother n sister live also) from AR. (where I live & where the wreck occured), I had to call her with the devastating news that my daughter had passed away in my arms, but took a breath in the ambulance (only by God’s Grace), so she immediately came bk to AR. Where she stayed for 3 1/2 weeks day n night at the PICU AT ACH With me and my 14 year old daughter who had extensive brain damage to all parts of brain except the stem. She stayed by my side, guiding me, holding my hand, giving advice, and pretty much arranged the whole funeral. Kailyn ended up passing away 8/18/15 due to an asthma attack that led to cardiac arrest and brain damage.
My mom had to leave right after the funeral bc she had been gone away from home for over a month. I could tell she didn’t feel good at all during alot of the time, but she nvr complained once. She is the strongest Breast Cancer Survivor I’ve ever met, and my Hero….She remains strong and we finally hv a good relationship that we hv nvr had before.
