Sam’s Club has another great promotion going on for new members!
Join Sam’s Club as a new member Thursday, January 15th, through Wednesday, January 21st, and receive a $25 Sam’s Club Gift Card.
Though Sam’s Club doesn’t accept coupons, there are several items that are a smart buy there for our large family. Milk is always much cheaper there, and we go through a LOT of milk. I love the big bags of frozen Tyson chicken breasts, and we always buy frozen pizzas to keep in the freezer chest for evenings when we just don’t feel like cooking.
One other thing that we’ve started stocking up on there is rechargeable batteries! Deals on those don’t come along often, and you get way more for your money, usually with a charger included.
If you have a smaller family, you could always split a membership with a close friend or family member and then divvy up the food between you to still get the low prices buying in bulk can net without wasting any food.
What are your tips for warehouse club shopping? What are some things that you find are good deals? What types of things do you prefer to purchase elsewhere?

One thing that is always a good deal at Sam’s is yeast. It’s much cheaper, even if you give half of it away. I also like to get our milk there and sometimes they will mark down meat. I split a membership with my best friend to make it more worthwhile.

Ooh, I don’t know that I’ve ever looked at the yeast there. I will definitely do that.
We buy a lot of meat there that’s marked down too. I just have to remember to wrap it and freeze it right away. I made the mistake the past summer of putting some in the refrigerator in the garage and I totally forgot about it – $50 of meat wasted. I was sick over it for days, and I still kick myself when I think about it.

I usually purchase our dishwasher detergent there (Cascade) and Peter Pan Peanut Butter. They have a 6-lb container for about $6-8 (can’t remember offhand). Salsa is usually a good deal too. Love your site!

I usually use Sam’s as a back up…if my beloved Fiber One bars aren’t on sale anywhere, for instance, I can always get a decent price at Sam’s. Same with soda and chips (although I try not to buy too much of either). Their produce prices are usually pretty reasonable (IF you know you can eat all of it before it goes bad…sometimes difficult with my family of two!). I also buy hearing aid batteries for my Dad there…price is generally competitive with other stores, and he goes through them quickly, so buying in bulk makes sense.
On this past Sunday, however, I made my biggest discovery: Sam’s sells my city paper for .99 (that’s lower than I can get it even on subscription)! More savings!

I’ve gone through Costco (similar to Sams) and priced out items so that I’ll know where to get the best deal. I found that Cheerios are almost always cheaper at Costco. Even with coupons and sales combined, the price can’t be beat. Diapers, wipes, shredded cheddar cheese, Polly-o string cheese, butter, half and half, eggs, coffee, frozen shrimp, salmon, Tyson breaded chicken breasts, and milk are always cheaper at Costco.

How do you split the member ship? There meat is an awsome deal!

We buy diapers at BJ’s (similar to Sam’s, but they take coupons!!!). We buy tissues, paper towels and tissues at BJ’s as well. Alghtough, lately, i have gotten some better deals through CVS and Walgreen’s deals.

Ashley, what you would have to do is have one person go in and purchase the membership and add the second person as an additional card user. My dad has had me on his membership this way for several years.

sorry I’m still confused. I’m new to the whole sam’s club thing. Do both people have to have the same last name? My mom and I were going to share one. Can I add my mom the same time that I buy the membership? Does it cost more to add an additonal person? Sorry for all the questions but I don’t know who else to ask. Thank you so much!
Deal Seeking Mom
No, you don’t have to have the same last name, and you can add her at the time that you buy the membership. It’s actually easier if you do it that way so it’s all done at once. They’ll just take both of your photos and you’ll be on your way!

yeah for the coupon. My husband was given a $10 off membership from his company at Christmas and we just haven’t gotten over there to do it yet. The last time we had a membership we had one in diapers and I would get the big box of wipes. I do remember getting a box of garbage bags that seemed to last forever!
Thanks for the link!

Does anyone know off hand how much a year’s membership is at Sam’s?? THANKS!
Deal Seeking Mom
Good question. A standard membership is $40, Keldy. Thanks!

Hehe it’s me again! Can you use walmart gift cards at Sams club? I can’t find anything on their site. Thanks
Deal Seeking Mom
No problem, Ashley. Yes, you can use Walmart gift cards at Sam’s!

I used to buy all my diapers and wipes at Costco thinking I was getting the lowest price. CVS is free. I stopped kicking myself once I realized I was doing the best I could at the time.

I shop at Sam’s time to time. Every now and then, we find a really good bargain, like clothing for $3 or so. At Christmas they had the ornamnetal live, potted Christmas trees (about 3 1/2 foot tall I think) for $14! These were $30-50 elsewhere. For the most part, everyday items are the same price as Walmart except you buy it in larger quantities. We live 45 minutes away, so its not always worth the trip. My husband works out of town, so for the most part I just send him when he is nearby, and not waste my time, money and gas going. We do buy our diapers there though, I go thru a lot…and I have not found a cheap way to buy huggies. IF any has some suggestions, I am ready to save. I dont like the walgreens generic diapers. Those are cheap, but you get what you pay for.
