Walmart wants to help you stretch your back-to-school clothing budget. With basics priced at just $10 or less, you can dress your student for an entire week for under $50!
Yeah, yeah, yeah . . . I was a little skeptical too, but Walmart provided me with a $50 gift card to check it out for myself, and I’m happy to report that it’s absolutely true. I got all of the items pictured below for just $53!
Yeah, so I exceeded my budget just a tad, but my oldest boys are thrilled at the additions to their back-to-school wardrobe! We don’t have hand-me-downs since they’ve worn the same size for as long as I can remember (they’re 12 months apart), so I’m thrilled at how these savings have stretched our clothing budget.

I shop sale days with extra discounts, for example kohl’s had power hours during a sale, then I found a 15% off coupon on everything on top of a $10 off if I spent at least $20. Left with 3 outfits (top and bottom for each outfit) for $22 a few weekends ago.

my son isn’t quite old enough for school yet but i’m looking forward to saving money on back to school items in five years when he is :)

I save money by going to thrift shops to see what uniforms I can find. I found most of my son’s clothing for only 1.00 a piece! Also, packing lunches to send to school saves money.

I think the best tip for back to school shopping on a budget is to start early and scan all the local ads. Yu need to look at stores you might not think of for supplies etc-like the drug store chains that often have great sales on notebooks etc. Also consider a pool of families in the neighborhood and then you can go to places like Sam’s Club or Costco to but in bulk at better prices.

We watch the sales flyers and buy when things are free after rebate or use coupons to get the most for our dollar. We buy extra when we can and give to others. Love your site and thanks for the giveaway!

I constantly check the clearance racks for next years clothes. My kids are small so I can predict what sizes they will wear next year. I recently bought 4 pair of kids shorts for $8.

My biggest tip is that many towns offer a tax free weekend shortly before school starts and you can save a lot of money that way!
Amy
We’ve been stocking up on supplies with all the great deals lately. Hopefully we won’t need a pencil or notebook all year, or we’ll have to pay full price!!
Deborah
For clothes, buy mostly good quality basics that will last the year, and a few cheaper trendy pieces to add some fun!
Jammie
I always shop clearance. I can get some nice clothes for a few bucks and I get a few sizes to big so she will have them the following year.

My money-saving tip is to not bring the kids school shopping with you! Simply take their list and go get everything yourself. This will cause you less stress, and will save you TONS of money when the kids don’t beg you for everything.

The teachers at school have a supply list on their school web page so we just go in and print out the one for the teacher in the next grade to shop for before school starts. Of course we always shop at Walmart! thanks for a great opportunity! [email protected]
