Consumer Recalls: Similac Powdered Infant Formula + More

There have been several consumer recalls over the past couple of days that may affect Deal Seeking Mom readers, so be sure to check your stockpile for affectedproducts! Please refer to the links included in each section for more details about the specific recalls:

Similac Powdered Infant Formulas

Abbot Laboratories said it is recalling millions of containers of Similac Powdered Infant Formulas after beetles were found in the products in a Michigan plant.  Abbott said on Wednesday the voluntary recall follows reports of contamination by two consumers.  Inspection of an area of the plant in Sturgis, Michigan found beetles or their larvae. Abbott said "less than 5 million units" of Similac are being recalled in the United States, Guam, Puerto Rico and other Caribbean markets.

To get a list of affected Similac products, visit their website or contact them by phone at 800-986-8850.  Similac's website is getting a lot of visits at this time, so be sure to try again if it doesn't load the first time.

well that's a bit gross! Thanks for letting us know, I shared the info on my blog as well.

This just makes me sick! Exactly why I chose to nurse my children because breast milk will NEVER be recalled.

I breastfed too but just be aware your comment is not very sensitive for those moms who don't have a choice.

I don't want this to be as ugly as the discussion on Facebook regarding the topic, but I was not physically able to produce milk, so I had to use formula. I find comments like yours to be hurtful, like I am less of a mother or care less about my child or I made a decision that put my child's health in jeopardy. The problem is NOT choosing to breastfeed or bottle feed a baby, but with companies not following safety and quality standards putting children at risk.

i don't wanna be mean but your comment is touching a very sensitive issue. there are several mothers out there that don't have a choice in breastfeeding and have to turn to formula. its great you are able to nurse your children but there some that aren't so please think of those people too and what they gotta go thru.

My daughter is on Similac and one of her containers is on the recall list.. It just makes me sick, how can a company that is dedicated in our child's growth be so negligent????????
