BIG Giveaway: $500 Walmart Gift Card Sponsored by Nickelodeon

by Tara Kuczykowski on December 2, 2008 · 2,864 comments

Nickelodeon
I've hinted about it for days now, and finally here it is – your chance to win a $500 Walmart gift card!!!

walmart-500-gift-cardJust in time to make your holidays a little happier, Nickelodeon and Walmart have teamed up to offer this fabulous contest hosted by the Elevenmoms.

Yep, that's right – each Elevenmom is giving away one $500 gift card on her blog, so you have 20 chances to win! Find details on the Elevenmoms site on how you can enter to win each one. Please note that you may only win once.

So who wants to add $500 to their holiday budget? You didn't really think I was going to make this EASY for you, did you? You're going to have to work a little bit for a prize this big.

In light of the tough economic times, this contest is all about discovering new ways to help each other save money. Yesterday I wrote a post detailing seven easy ways to cut at least $1 from your budget per day in the hopes that it would inspire you to participate in The One Dollar Give. I only just scratched the surface though, and I know that you all have some amazing tips to share as well.

So there you go – holiday-themed or not, I want you to share your best methods for cutting back by at least $1 a day!

Methods of Entry*

Every reader can submit up to three (3) different tips to enter this contest. Choose one each of any combination of method one, two, or three for up to a total of 3 entries!!!

YOU MUST LEAVE A TIP WITH EACH ENTRY. ENTRIES THAT DO NOT FOLLOW THE GUIDELINES BELOW WILL BE DELETED.

1. Leave a comment sharing your best money-saving tip to cut at least $1 a day out of your budget!

2. Subscribe to my feed via RSS or email and leave a separate comment letting me know you have done so along with another money-saving tip. If you’re already a subscriber, simply leave a separate comment letting me know you’re already subscribed along with another money-saving tip. Lovin’ my subscribers! You guys make this all possible.

3. Spread the word about this contest in some manner and come back and leave a link in a separate comment along with another money-saving tip. If you have a blog, you can blog about it. But if you don’t have a blog, you’re not at a disadvantage. You could review and Stumble it. You could Twitter it. You could post about it in a forum. Use your imagination!

*Please read the rules for entering and the timeline information carefully as this contest differs from the usual giveaways that I host.

It is important that you leave a separate comment for each type of entry because each comment is equal to one entry. Sorry to harp on this, but it really is that important to tally and select the winner easily, so I thank you from the bottom of my heart for helping me simplify the process!

Prize:
1 $500 Walmart Gift Card

This giveaway ends at 11:59 p.m. EDT on Monday, December 15th. The judges will select ten of their favorite entries to be highlighted on Deal Seeking Mom, and I’ll use Random.org to select the winning comment.  The winner will be posted on Tuesday, December 16th, and the prize will be mailed out on December 17th. Good luck!

While you’re in a contest entering mood, don’t forget to check out the Giveaway Gathering for a variety of contests being hosted on Deal Seeking Mom readers’ blogs!

I receive your e-mails and have benefited greatly from them. Thank you!

Another way to save is by running the dishwasher and washing machine only when you have a full load. Dryer sheets can also be torn in half; half a sheet is still enough to get rid of static electricity and get your clothes smelling great, and one box will last for twice as many loads.

I get store-bought coffee creamer to spice things up instead of going out for coffee. Honestly, I don't know HOW people afford to go out for coffee every day!

Instead of purchasing a drink (pop or juice) w/my breakfast and lunch - I drink water. That's cuts about $ 2.00 off per day!

My most successful tip is to stop buying coffee every morning. I used to stop at Dunkin Donuts every morning before work for a cup of coffee and a donut. It was costing me $2.50 a day. By switching to instant oatmeal and free coffee from work, I save about $2 or more every day with this little change. Thanks for the opportunity to win the GC!

Tip #2: Work from home - if you can. My husband is doing this in 2008 and we have saved a minumum of $50 a week just on gas!

I shop for groceries with a detailed list using sale ads and sometimes I order extra coupons online for really good deals!

I subscribed!

My husband rides to work with a co-worker who doesn't live too far away in order to save a little on gas money.

We reuse dryer sheets by dusting with them. We also cut them in half for dryer use.

Check out your local Freecycle group to find secondhand goods for free -- I've gotten kids clothes, lawn and garden equipment, books, and many other things from my local freecycle.

I am a subscriber via RSS. Here is my second tip to save at least $1 a day: buy in bulk and divide into small containers rather than buying individually wrapped items (cheese sticks, snack crackers, juice boxes, etc.) It is way cheaper to invest in a supply of reusable containers and divide the goods up yourself than to buy pre-packaged individually wrapped items!

Don't run errands around lunch-time. It's too easy to be tempted to stop and buy something.

Buy Christmas and birthday gifts all throughout the year when you find them at great prices and save them until you need them so that you're not paying full price and running around at the last minute.

33 Colleen December 3, 2008 at 8:07 pm

Cut napkins in half.

Stumbled (#3 entry)

I used to spend an extra downtime browsing - and usually buying - on eBay and Amazon. I replaced that with taking surveys on the internet. Now I spend about $150 less a month in those eBay and Amazon purchases, and I make $10-$20 a month doing the surveys (plus some of them are really interesting!).

I buy markdown products from the meat and produce sections of the supermarket. It makes it easy to decide what to have for dinner that night, or is easily put into the freezer for later.

Our family was living paycheck to paycheck and it seemed the most logical solution was to sell our van and eliminate the $324.00 monthly payment. We sold the van and upgraded our bike trailer. My husband started carpooling and we found ourselves saving not only our van payment, but huge savings on tranportation fuel, and insurance expenses. Me and the kids pedalled to the library, pool, and parks around town and I found myself rarely spending money since I wasn't visiting commercial retailers. However, I still had access to a vehicle most days a week in the event of an appointment and as an added bonus, I lost weight! Within a few months we'd saved enough money to buy another van, (not quite as new) with cash! It's interesting how seldom we use our van now, as my husbands still carpooling, and we've changed our lifestyle.

Do not stomp on the gas in your car . It makes more sense and saves gas, money and wear and tear on your car by gathering speed more slowly. Those buildings are not going anywhere. Wherever you are going will still be there if you drive just a bit more slowly.

Most recipes call for 1lb of ground beef turkey....use 1/2 lb and save the other for another meal. You can add oatmeal, lentils, beans to make up the difference or just leave it out.. you probably won't miss it.

Clip coupons and watch for sales to match them with. Once you start saving money this way, it is hard to make yourself pay full price for anything again!
