BIG Giveaway: $500 Walmart Gift Card Sponsored by Nickelodeon

by Tara Kuczykowski on December 2, 2008 · 2,864 comments

Nickelodeon
I've hinted about it for days now, and finally here it is – your chance to win a $500 Walmart gift card!!!

walmart-500-gift-cardJust in time to make your holidays a little happier, Nickelodeon and Walmart have teamed up to offer this fabulous contest hosted by the Elevenmoms.

Yep, that's right – each Elevenmom is giving away one $500 gift card on her blog, so you have 20 chances to win! Find details on the Elevenmoms site on how you can enter to win each one. Please note that you may only win once.

So who wants to add $500 to their holiday budget? You didn't really think I was going to make this EASY for you, did you? You're going to have to work a little bit for a prize this big.

In light of the tough economic times, this contest is all about discovering new ways to help each other save money. Yesterday I wrote a post detailing seven easy ways to cut at least $1 from your budget per day in the hopes that it would inspire you to participate in The One Dollar Give. I only just scratched the surface though, and I know that you all have some amazing tips to share as well.

So there you go – holiday-themed or not, I want you to share your best methods for cutting back by at least $1 a day!

Methods of Entry*

Every reader can submit up to three (3) different tips to enter this contest. Choose one each of any combination of method one, two, or three for up to a total of 3 entries!!!

YOU MUST LEAVE A TIP WITH EACH ENTRY. ENTRIES THAT DO NOT FOLLOW THE GUIDELINES BELOW WILL BE DELETED.

1. Leave a comment sharing your best money-saving tip to cut at least $1 a day out of your budget!

2. Subscribe to my feed via RSS or email and leave a separate comment letting me know you have done so along with another money-saving tip. If you’re already a subscriber, simply leave a separate comment letting me know you’re already subscribed along with another money-saving tip. Lovin’ my subscribers! You guys make this all possible.

3. Spread the word about this contest in some manner and come back and leave a link in a separate comment along with another money-saving tip. If you have a blog, you can blog about it. But if you don’t have a blog, you’re not at a disadvantage. You could review and Stumble it. You could Twitter it. You could post about it in a forum. Use your imagination!

*Please read the rules for entering and the timeline information carefully as this contest differs from the usual giveaways that I host.

It is important that you leave a separate comment for each type of entry because each comment is equal to one entry. Sorry to harp on this, but it really is that important to tally and select the winner easily, so I thank you from the bottom of my heart for helping me simplify the process!

Prize:
1 $500 Walmart Gift Card

This giveaway ends at 11:59 p.m. EDT on Monday, December 15th. The judges will select ten of their favorite entries to be highlighted on Deal Seeking Mom, and I’ll use Random.org to select the winning comment.  The winner will be posted on Tuesday, December 16th, and the prize will be mailed out on December 17th. Good luck!

While you’re in a contest entering mood, don’t forget to check out the Giveaway Gathering for a variety of contests being hosted on Deal Seeking Mom readers’ blogs!

Grocery shop with a list and use it.

I pack my husband's lunch so that he won't end up ordering out. While at home, my boys and I eat leftovers. We find that keeps us from eating out too often, and it saves a lot of money.

Don't drive by Mc Donalds with your kids! That will save you a ton of money and sanity!

I'm already a subscriber. One way I'm trying to save money each day is to cut back on how much soda I drink. I love my Diet Dr. Pepper, but I'm trying to drink more water to cut costs. It's just a little, but every penny counts!

There are plenty of ways to save at least a dollar a day!

I don't buy coffee at shops anymore, I bring my own from home.

I pack my own lunch each and every day.

I use coupons like it's my job!

Subscriber (RSS) entry (#2)

We used to get pizza one night a week (delivery) - cost was regularly $30-$40 a time. I learned a pizza recipe and now we either make our own or buy frozen and heat up - average cost $5-$10. Over a month I estimate we save about $90, and we enjoy it just as much.
I've started keeping a better pantry of ingredients to make more things from scratch, and I'm collecting recipes for other breads, muffins, cookies, etc.

Re-evaluate your insurance coverage. With both boys gettin married this year not only were they dropped from our auto insurance but we didnt think to remove them from the homeowners...we were able to add my mom ( who lives with us) to both our policies & still be paying substantially less & freeing up some of her money for her. Also, adding a new roof to the house & tearing down an old garage helped..which we wouldnt have known if we hadnt been calling re the car insurance!

making meals from my stockpile, walking and/or biking to run errands, renting movies using only freebie redbox codes or watching movies through netflix via xbox ($8.99/mo subscription also allows for one movie to be mailed to your home), grouping all my errands, turning off lights, leaving the oven door open after baking, reusing dryer sheets (they can bue used a few times each), washing in cold water only, walking my Christmas cards to neighbors, saving shower water to flush toilet.. that's it off the top of my head!

One way my family is cutting back is eating less meat! We're making more dishes where meat is only one component (spaghetti sauce, stew, etc) and we're eating more meals that include no meat at all. Things like rice, potatoes, beans, are so much cheaper!

Don't buy that new book at the bookstore. Use your local library instead. If a copy isn't currently available, put yourself on the waiting list and let them contact you when it is. You can easily save a bundle!

Cancel those expensive add-on channels on your cable bill ( or better yet cancel your cable TV!). Do you really watch them that much??? Borrow movies from the library!

I love an iced latte every morning, but buying one everyday is out of the question. I make a stong pot of coffee once a week and put it in a container in the fridge. Then I buy the coffee syrups at my grocery store (I love the sugar free choc and the sugar free vanilla). Every morning I mix the coffee, syrup and milk over ice and it's the best!

We are psycho about turning lights off in our house! With being home all day (homeschooling) it really helps our electric bill to keep them off.

One way to save a lot of money and not clutter up your home is to use the library for DVDs, videos, CDs, cassettes, and books. They also offer a lot of free activities for children year round.

I receive your e-mails and have benefited greatly from them. Thank you!

Another way to save is by running the dishwasher and washing machine only when you have a full load. Dryer sheets can also be torn in half; half a sheet is still enough to get rid of static electricity and get your clothes smelling great, and one box will last for twice as many loads.
